Why is Galchenyuk's cap hit so high for a 2nd year player? I looked at nhlnumbers.com & saw something about a 2.3 million $ bonus. Is that right?

That's how I saw it too: 925K of salary and 2.3M of bonus, total 3.225M cap hit.

Rookie contracts are allowed to have performance bonuses .... He might not make them all which eventually could lower the cap hit, but you have to account for the space in case he reaches all bonuses

Subban is the elephant in the room and he has to be accommodated. Several players should be lopped to free up cap room. Gionta has to go, although I assume he'll be signed elsewhere. Bouillon, the teacher's pet, should be cast out to make room for more capable Dmen. I assume Briere will be retained for next season now that he's shown signs of life.

The cap is projected to be 71.1 million, gives them a little under 7 million more to play with.
