The NHL record for consecutive years making the playoffs is 29, set by the Boston Bruins from 1967-68 through 1995-96.
The Detroit Red Wings have made the playoffs for 22 consecutive seasons, but that streak is in jeopardy this year.
Heading into Thursday’s game against the Canadiens at Joe Louis Arena (7 p.m., TSN, RDS, TSN Radio 690) the Red Wings were barely holding on to the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference standings with a 33-25-14 record.
This will be the third of four meetings between the two teams this season and the Red Wings have won the first two. It’s the first game of a four-game road trip for the Canadiens, who enter the game sitting in second place in the Atlantic Division, two points ahead of Tampa Bay. The Lightning plays host to the New York Islanders Thursday night.
The Canadiens held a morning skate Thursday in Detroit and here’s how the lines and defence pairings looked at the start of the morning skate:
Pacioretty-Desharnais-Vanek Galchenyuk-Plekanec-Gallagher Bourque-Briere-Gionta Bournival-Eller-White
Markov-Subban Emelin-Murray Weaver-Tinordi
Carey Price will start in goal.

Facing a very desperate, extremely well-coached team.
Tough order.
If we lose in regulation or even get into a 3-pt. game, it'll really hurt the Leafs.
Win-win kind of night....

I'm conflicted. I want the Habs to win and get home ice in the first round, but I really want the blue jackets to face the B's, for that to happen, the wings have to get a hold of the 1st wild card spot and CBJ to drop the the 2nd.

Losing hurts the Leafs I won't be happy but given the circumstances I won't be that upset.
That being said I want the Habs to secure home ice and get confidence playing a good well coached team.
M. Tinkertrain has got horseshoes up the ying yang I'm hoping he tries to get find stability down the stretch and keeps leaning towards playing 27 76 24 a lot more.
This group plays hard for the most part and if MT trusted his new generation core, I think they have more to give despite the obvious physical deficiencies?.... enough to get to a cup final doubtful, but they need to win a round to keep moving forward.
Still want a win tonight, the Leafs aside we have the better team given their injuries but the Wings are so structured you have to be patient as hell.
Go Habs

Visiting friends in another part of the province, but the Habs are on TSN, so yahoo! Unfortunately, their tv is in the dungeon, no cell signal, so I can't keep up a running commentary on Habsrus while watching the game. Will have to wait for intermissions. I'd love to see Detroit miss the playoffs. It's good for a team to face difficult times occasionally and learn what it feels like to be out of the running. They can console themselves with a slightly higher daft choice. C'mon boys, lets add a nail to their coffin.

Good start, our guys have a lot of jump. Strange defensive effort from the Dead Wings at Plekys goal. But why should we complain about it?

The PK units were great and now Pleky and P.K. with a good combination for the second goal. Very entertaining game so far.

Pk is very active that period. Assisted on both pleky goals. Nice to see him jumping into the rush.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give the Habs an 8 for that period. Were the shots on goal really 9-8 for the Wings? I'd have the domination score at 9-1 for Montreal. A normally tight defensive team is having it's troubles and I attribute that to the Habs not giving them time and space. When you up the tempo just a bit, a normally disciplined, effective team can start to fall apart, simply because the talent level isn't there. Something you can do at 25 mph, you can't do at 28 mph. Very solid period by the Habs. Full marks for effort, execution and coaching. Tinordi lost the puck once and it was one of the few times Detroit had a chance. He's a youngster and he too, can't always handle things happening at a faster clip. But he'll get there. Playing in games like his is tremendously important for his development. PK is playing great, and if he does his share to help a Babcock coached team miss the playoffs, that's Karma.
Now, the difficult part is doing this for 60 minutes. You can bet Babcock is telling his guys we can't do it and to keep up the pressure. I hope Therrien is telling his guys to get another 2 in the second and put the Wings away. Keep up the pace, the Wings can't handle it.

Great effort by Vanek and nice finish by DD. 3-1 good guys. Hopefully this will calm down this game a little bit. The second period is much more a fight than the the first one.

A good start to the second by Detroit. We didn't cash in on the PP (didn't look good at all, to be honest), but the guys aren't sitting back. The puck is not in the defensive zone all that long.
The club has gotten bigger under Bergevin and it's made a difference.
Cheers.

Our top line, DD, MaxPac, Vanek are clicking big time. Creative ... when was the last time we've had a "creative" line in town?
Cheers.
