I'm going to take some flack for this but the most non-biased team I've heard on CBC this year has been Bob Cole and Garry Galley. I don't know how many Leaf games he calls, but Cole always seems to be handling the Montreal games. (wouldn't surprise me if he asked for that assignment based just on his seniority) These guys call a very good game. If Galley points out mistakes with Montreal I don't find him all that biased. He's actually on the mark the majority of the time. I also found that Cole has been calling a pretty good game over the last while; maybe this season and some of last season, too. Galley has almost become a Habs apologist. Points out the good and the bad. An enjoyable part of my drive home when he's on; puts Simpson in his place on occasion [makes the drive even better]

The entire Canadian media is dominated by the TO perspective. Even those who acquired a professional unbiased view of reporting lose that perspective once they move to TO and subconsciously or otherwise become TO biased. Jim Hughson is a good example.
Part of the problem is that while they may only do one TO game nationally a week, the other 6 days they are eating and breathing the crap. They always know way more abut TOs players and situation than other teams as they follow them daily. Also I think it is every sportscasters dream to follow a team on a championship run as the announcer also goes down in history with their calls and may even write a book about the season ($$$). So there is also an actual self-interest for them to root for TO the team they report on regularly.
TSN is also TO centred (opened with Bluejays-Yankees last night before OTT-Mtl - really?)but they I can tolerate as they are an independent company. But CBC is paid for by all of us and has an obligation, and should make a concerted effort to ensure unbiased and fair reporting with equal time devoted to the entire country. I don't want my tax money going to support the Leafs and their airtime, particularly when it is at the expense of my team. While I can tolerate Cherry declaring his bias (the others should to)by stating he loves the leafs and bruins, I can't tolerate him incessantly talking about those teams on coaches corner when neither team is playing. That's when CBC has to say "Coach this is a national broadcasting company not the Leafs Network"; or give me my tax money back.
And they wonder why the rest of us hate everything about TO. The sooner TO is out of the picture the sooner the rest of the country can get some reporting on their local concerns which s what we fund CBC for!

Galley was all over simpson when he insinuated no one in the locker room liked pk. Simpson is a homer and dispenses the sens koolaid.
