It was the referees judgement but I'd argue that he never had possession nor control at any point, AND the goaltender would have beaten him to the puck, as he was coming out. But in don't mind the call, just would not have argued if the ref just called a tripping call He took at least 2 strides with the puck on his stick, granted it was at his side, but he did have it. He lost it pushing it ahead of himself, at which point he was tripped.

Why argue about whether Gionta merited a penalty shot? Does anyone want to refuse it retrospectively? The Habs are in the playoffs and so are the Rangers. Too bad the 1-0 shoot out game on Sunday went the wrong way.
