One thing is for certain, Bergevin is not done tinkering with the NHL roster yet. Assuming Subban comes in around $8.5 per and Eller maybe gets a 2 year deal at $2.5 per we are left with the following:
FORWARDS Max Pacioretty ($4.500m) / David Desharnais ($3.500m) / P-A Parenteau ($4.000m) Alex Galchenyuk ($0.925m) / Tomas Plekanec ($5.000m) / Brendan Gallagher ($0.685m) Rene Bourque ($3.333m) / Lars Eller ($2.500m) / Dale Weise ($1.025m) Brandon Prust ($2.500m) / Manny Malhotra ($0.850m) / Michael Bournival ($0.660m) Travis Moen ($1.850m) / DEFENSEMEN Alexei Emelin ($4.100m) / P.K. Subban ($8.500m) Andrei Markov ($5.750m) / Tom Gilbert ($2.800m) Nathan Beaulieu ($0.925m) / Mike Weaver ($1.750m) Jarred Tinordi ($0.870m) / GOALTENDERS Carey Price ($6.500m) Dustin Tokarski ($0.563m) BUYOUTS Tomas Kaberle ($0.000m) Scott Gomez ($0.000m) BURIED Peter Budaj ($0.475m) BONUS OVERAGE $0 ------ CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (estimations for 2014-15) SALARY CAP: $69,000,000; CAP PAYROLL: $63,560,833; BONUSES: $3,257,500 CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $5,439,167
At the very least i expect Bergevin to sign another d-man....someone who can either be the #8 guy in Montreal, or a top 2 guy for Hamilton that can play at the NHL level if we get absolutely nailed with injuries.
I'm not sure that there is a UFA F of interest out there to play on our top 3 lines, but i do not believe that our "9th" forward will come from within as Bergevin has suggested. Habs will either sign or trade for a guy to play on those top 3 lines.
I also strongly believe that Plekanec will be in play. BC mentioned earlier that Bergevin has yet to really swing for the fences with any of his moves....i think trading Plekanec this summer will be that swing for the fence, gamble move that maybe sets us back a touch today to take 2-3 steps forward down the road.

Maybe Drewiske will be that #8 guy in Montreal (or top 2 in Hamilton). I'll be honest, I have no idea what the situation is with him right now. As for Plekanec, I would do my best to trade him for Ryan O'Reilly. ROR will definitely be more expensive, but he's an excellent, versatile player that can play 20 minutes per game at C or wing. He's also younger, tougher, better on faceoffs, arguably a better scorer... and he's still improving his game. He'd be worth the extra $2 million imo, although we would probably have to move another contract (Moen?) in order to feel comfortable with the cap situation.

Wow completely forgot about Drewiske! He would fill that #8 role (or 9 behind Pateryn) just fine.
Ryan O'Reilly would be a dream pickup for the Habs...but i don't think there is any chance you are getting him for Plekanec. I would think that at the very least you'd have to include one of Beaulieu or Tinordi in that deal.

One thing everyone forgets when going to capgeek is that the bonuses in the contracts are not included in the final totals, (although capgeek does show them if you look up above). For instance, Alex Galchenyuk has a base salary of $925,000. But he can, if he meets his bonuses, get to as high as $3,225,000. Montreal has to make sure they have that room available to cover that at season's end, if they don't they are penalized the next season. As of right now, Montreal has $53,848,333 committed to the salary cap, and they have the potential to have to pay out $3,682,500 in bonuses. So effectively, they have $57,530,833 used up. With the cap at $69,000,000 that means they have $11,469,167 cap room available to sign Subban and Eller. If this is the team we are going to go to war with, then $8,500,000 for Subban and $2,500,000 for Eller leaves $469,167 for the trade deadline. Which is good, that much at the deadline is worth $2.3 million. But if we are going to improve ... like find that top six forward that is glaringly missing ... than it is obvious it has to come via trade.
