I'd say Parenteau is better than Bourque. He had a tough season adjusting to Roy and two knee injuries. Prior to that he had 43 points in 48 games and 67 in a full season. I think he can come in and produce. He's not a defensive whiz, but he'll produce. You may be right. Although PA didn't become a regular until he was 27(?), Bourque has been able to hide behind his skating. As far as production, I'd put my money on PA. Just don't feel good about having two players like that. PA was playing with some guy called Tavares when he put up those good ppg numbers. They slipped when he went to the Avalanche, because Tavares didn't go with him. If he can get .6 ppg, I think we should be happy.

For the record, I'm not expecting a ppg player. I'm expecting a guy who can produce 50 points, maybe more if he gets consistent top 6 minutes and some PP time. For $4 million per, that's bang for the buck.

PA is an upgrade on Briere and Gionta. Just getting rid of Briere is a plus. Good work MB. We got bigger and younger.

While PA is, hopefully, an upgrade on the overall team talent level and the trade clears up the center situation somewhat he may in the end still be a temporary solution until they find someone better for a top two line Right Winger.
I'd be happy if PA was in the 20-22 goals 40-50 points a year range. Let's hope he stays healthy.
As for not being Roy's kind of player- well circumstances differ and given Roy's temperament he may be in some ways harder to play for than MT is.

If he can take a regular shift he'll be an upgrade on Briere. If MT is worried about who he is on the ice against all the time it'll just be more of the same for longer term.

With Brière being banished to the 4th line, this isn't too surprising.
As much as I wasn't a Brière fan, having a depth guy with high skill gave us options, and made it harder to play against us.
We aren't the Blackhawks or of that caliber, we can't afford a 4th line of grinders who never score...
