And since Bergevin said flat out in his press conference that they needed to make room for the young defencemen (plural) to play it would seem to me that the message has been sent to MT that he has to find a way to play them. ...at the same time if the GM fills your roster with a gazillion veteran, it's hard for a coach to play rookie... I understand the depth thingy but too many players not playing = unhappy players around the team.... Right now there is one spot in our regular lineup for a young D, that means Beaulieu and Tinordi will only most propably go in and out of the lineup, Pateryn (who's 24) will be again in Hamilton and Nygren (24 as well), unless he plays lights out in camp is back in Sweden. Those are 4 dmen, 22, 23, 24, 24 who are still not looking at being NHL regulars... It's the same thing with Galchenyuk... Berg and MT keep saying they want to devellop him as a center, yet Berg doesn't create the spot in the roster to put him there...

The kids have to be played regularly, not platooned. You saw this year how MT did not trust the rookies, because he felt they didn't get enough game time That's MTs fault they didn't get enough game time because he didn't play them and he didnt trust them because they didnt play enough... it's the chicken egg thing. I agree with Doc. This is MB's fault. They have yet to answer the question "Where do they want Galchenyuk to play?" in their future plans for the team. If it is center, than put him there permanently. Create that opening for him. This will be year three of him on the wing, and even though these guys are professionals, it isn't that easy to now flip the switch to center. We may have developed a decent second line left winger, but that doesn't necessarily mean he is now ready to be a first line center ... that could take another 2 years to develop. It really poor forward thinking on the whole management team. The same goes for the defense. Why sign Gilbert? Is he any better than what we have? If the transition from winger to center is easy, than the whole transition from lefty defense to righty defense should be a breeze ... This was the season that Beaulieu and Tinordi were suppose to be regulars in the lineup. I'm sure MB has a plan ... but i find it hard to see it sometimes

As for aGal I agree he needs to be permanently at centre.
As for the D we need depth. After Pateryn we dont have a lot.
Subban Emelin Markov Tinordi Bealieu Weaver Pateryn Gilbert
Weaver Pateryn and Gilbert are rotational unless MT, in his infinite wisdom, does what he did last year and plays the vets regularily but that is up to MB to sort out.

I agree. On our blueline, depth was needed and balance between the left and right side was also needed. Right now, with the group of 8 that you mentioned, we have an equal balance of LD and RD. I think the top four will be pretty much set with Markov-Subban and Emelin-Gilbert and the 3rd pairing will have a rotation of Beaulieu/Tinordi and Weaver/Pateryn. Injuries will of course happen throughout the course of the season, so having the balance and depth, is nice to see. To alleviate the logjam at centre, if MB won't deal one of our current centres, then Desharnais should move to the wing. His size would make him better suited there anyway, so that's what I would do, rather than have yet another season of Galchenyuk on the wing. And if MT doesn't like that idea, then Bergevin will have to pull rank and make him do it.

He would be crushed along the boards and is limiting his passing one way.

I don't guarantee it would work for DD, but it would potentially solve our center logjam and give us flexible options if injuries strike. Worth thinking about, considering the potential benefits...

The difference is Marty is very fast while Davey is a little above average.

We lost two centers this off season(Briere and White). We have one, a RFA, who has yet to sign a contract. That leaves DD,Pleks and Malhotra.
This is what I see happening:
It's unlikely Subban gets an offer sheet, a team would have to pay a lot of money to him and give up a Saperlipopette load of picks.
Given that thought, MB makes a trade to get that coveted RW, probably involves either Tinordi or Beaulieu, he then has an idea of his cap space.
Signs Subban to the contract Subban wants. Plays hardball with Eller until someone gives him an offer sheet, MB lets him go for the picks and replaces him from within.
Now, if Plekanec hasn't been traded in that aforementioned trade for the RW, we have Subban locked up, the RW we need and an opening at center for AGall.
Thats my bold prediction.
Idealy, Pleks is the one traded, Eller signs as third line center and Agal gets 2nd line duties.
