I thought I'd start a thread for Miscellaneous stuff that can pop up over the summer. Stuff like a players trip to Australia or getting tossed in jail for a bar room brawl. That sort of stuff where we may not want to waste a new thread on it. It can just go into this pile. To start things off, an article on Gallagher and his training regimen and his move out of Josh's house. From the Gazette www.montrealgazette.com/sports/Stubbs+Gallagher+needs+digs+after+trade+easygoing+landlord/10029734/story.htmlMONTREAL — It’s no secret that Brendan Gallagher lives every moment with a smile on his face, whether he’s scoring for the Canadiens or being pounded into a fine dust in the goal crease of the opposition.
So it was hardly a surprise that Gallagher was still laughing on Monday from Vancouver, talking about being homeless in Montreal while living out of boxes on the West Coast.
Gallagher was setting up shop in the first place of his own when he took a call, having taken possession a week ago of a condominium that’s apparently just a healthy slice from a golf course in Vancouver.
“I can get out and work on my game,” he said brightly. “I try to play a lot. I’m not terrible.”
Montreal, however, is more problematic. From the start of the 2012-13 season, Gallagher’s rookie year with the Canadiens, he has lived under the Brossard roof of now ex-Habs defenceman Josh Gorges and Gorges’s then-fiancée, now wife, Maggie.
But on July 1 came Gorges’s trade to the Buffalo Sabres. And with that, Gallagher lost a dear friend, a role-model teammate and an easygoing landlord.
To say nothing of Maggie’s fine meals and the companionship of Gus, the Gorges family bulldog.
“I don’t know where I’m going to be next year,” Gallagher said. “I guess I have to move out on my own and start taking care of myself.”
Gallagher spent a week at Gorges’s summer home in Kelowna, B.C., in September 2012, training with a group of pros in Gorges’s hometown. And from there, Gorges offered his Brossard home to the youngster who would arrive with the Canadiens that lockout-shortened season, a campaign that would see Gallagher nominated for the Calder Trophy as the league’s top rookie.
“I can’t thank Josh enough for everything he did for me,” the 22-year-old said. “It says a lot about who he is, for two years taking me in and teaching me every single day.
“And I have to thank Maggie as much as Josh. She put up with me and made sure there was food on the table every night. Those two were pretty important for me to be able to have success my first two years.”
During his stay came Gus, the rumbling four-legged beauty that played both men like a fiddle.
So much so that, when I asked Gallagher whether he’d miss Gorges or Gus more, he replied, with a laugh:
“I’ll go with Gus on this one. He’s my little buddy. You’d come home after a tough road trip and he’s always there, pretty excited to jump up on the couch with you. I’ll miss lounging around with him. He’s a very low-maintenance dog.”
Gallagher pretty much dissolved into a living room sofa every chance he got, Gus often on top of him.
On whether he left a good impression during his nearly two years with his hosts, Gallagher says, “Yes. In their couch. That thing has a pretty good indent for all the time I spent lying on it.”
All of his suits and winter clothes are in the Brossard home, and he joked that with Gorges and Maggie back in Kelowna, at least he doesn’t have to worry about finding it on eBay. Gallagher looks forward to bunking “maybe one last time” with the couple in Kelowna next month when he goes north to train

Good idea 17! Seems pretty flat here the last few days. Altho the flood gates will burst once the PK issue is finalized.
Good article on BGal. Somewhat ironic that you posted it the same day Ribiero signs with the Preds. Talk about two guys with completely opposite attitudes. I remember Mikey playing the point on the PP when he was first called up. The potential was so exciting. But then we got to know the real head case he was/is (remember the World Cup worthy writhing on the ice in the playoffs?). There is something so honest and pure about BGal's game that grabs a fan (and McDonalds). His game, personality, and character are so strong that he could be a unilingual captain of the Habs and no one would complain (what was that all about - boy I miss Saku). Just love two of the last three #11s.

Habs got that ball rolling, for the NHL, in 2004. Be trend setters, not followers.

Just to cross-post over different threads, but how different would things have been if a guy like Marty Lapointe had of been working with Ribeiro from a much younger age? I agree that Gallagher is a different personality, but the organization makes sure that he is sheltered too, living in Gorges's house and all. Heck, even during his first training camp after the draft they made sure he was living with somebody, and not just hanging out in a hotel downtown (a friend of a friend of mine, who was friends with Gallagher's dad had him staying at their house, a couple of blocks from me - lot of friends there!).

Which raise the question: Now that Gorges and Gionta are gone, who will be taking the young guys under their wing? I'm assuming Plekanec can take care of Sekac if he makes the team being from the same town and all but I wonder who would be the "go-to veterans". Somehow, I can't picture Markov waking up to a 20 year old playing video games on his couch!

I can't see them playing a game at the Big O. Wasn't a soccer game pushed back because there was more than "x" number of millimeters on the roof? The roof would have to have almost no snow on it, a hard task in the winter! If we are talking winter classic, there is only one game that I think whould be on everyones mind, do really well on NBC and that is Boston vs Montreal in Gillet Stadium!

Eric Engels is into summer doldrums as well: www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?blogger_id=82Habs Summer Snooze, Waiting on Deals for Subban and Eller 1) Another day, another dollar not being spent on P.K. Subban's looming contract extension. The deadline is August 1st, when Subban is set for an arbitration hearing with the Canadiens.
We've been through enough labor disputes to understand the nature of negotiations. Be pleasantly surprised if they come to terms on a long-term deal between now and July 28th. Be relieved if they settle in the final 48 hours and everyone walks away happy. Be heavily concerned about this dossier falling into the hands of a third party.
2) Lars Eller has to be hoping for a deal ahead of his arbitration hearing on July 25th. He doesn't have a ton of leverage, and he figures to end up with similar figure in arbitration as what he's going to garner from the Canadiens before it.
David Desharnais--who turns 28 in September--signed a four-year extension with the Canadiens at an annual average of $3.5M in March of 2013. He had come off a two-year deal that averaged out at $850,000 per. He had scored 111 points in 178 games up to that point.
At 23, Eller signed a two-year deal with the Canadiens that averaged out to $1.325M per, netting $1.5M last season. To date, Eller's got 103 points in 286 games. Eller's 13 points in 17 playoff games this year will do a lot to balance his spotty production for long stretches of the regular season, not to mention being scratched from the lineup on the odd occasion.
3) Lot of good buzz about some of the prospects who took part in this year's development camp. Here's Martin Lapointe on how it all went:
There's a video that goes in here, but I couldn't attach it. You'll have to click on the link above to see it.
4) Note that in that video, as has been widely reported, Lapointe admits he's not interested in moving to Montreal to be an assistant coach for the Canadiens. He's very happy in his current position, allowing for his young family to remain in Chicago.
And if you don't speak french, here are a few snippets of what Lapointe had to say about development camp.
5) Outside of Eller and Subban, the biggest questions remaining are regarding what shakes out behind Carey Price, and whether or not Marc Bergevin will try to add a piece at forward.
It's the dog days of summer, and hopefully these situations heat up over the next couple of weeks so we have more to talk about.

DIRECTOR OF PLAYER DEVELOPMENT BRISEBOIS LEAVES CANADIENS
tsn.ca
MONTREAL -- Patrice Brisebois is leaving the Montreal Canadiens for personal reasons, a source tells The Canadian Press.
Brisebois, who has served as director of player development for the past two years, told general manager Marc Bergevin of his intentions earlier this week, the source said.
The 43-year-old Montreal native played 16 of his 18 NHL seasons for the Habs. Between Montreal and the Colorado Avalanche he played 1,009 career games.

I hope everything is well with Patrice. Why not Kirk Muller to replace him? Or maybe MB wants to go with another ex defenseman?

I hope everything is well with Patrice. Why not Kirk Muller to replace him? Or maybe MB wants to go with another ex defenseman? Kirk was hired by the Blues recently ... he'll do well there ... thought one of the worst moves the org made in the past was letting Jacques Laperriere go ... he ended up in Boston of all places and, later, in New Jersey ... had a good working rapport with Pat Burns ... it's too bad Larry Robinson is spoken for, though he did try to get into the org several times in the past only to be turned away ... Cheers.

Good for young Scherbak. Definitely a breathe of fresh air, when you consider how much media attention this 26th overall pick has received since the draft. I hope he enjoys spending his signing bonus, as he likely won't be collecting any of that NHL salary for a few years. He definitely can still benefit for some more seasoning in the CHL and eventually in the AHL before getting a spot with the big club. I do expect he will see some exhibition games but I still think he is likely still not quite there to get a 9 game tryout at the start of the regular season. Who knows, but as the Berg says, it is up to him to force them to make a decision.

I met a bunch of Habs (current and former) today at the Canadian Open.
Desharnais Parenteau Damphousse Cournoyer Demers Savage Carbonneau
Bunch of Canadian golfers like Weir, Ames and DeLaet.
It was a great day. Parenteau said he's 'super pumped' to be a Hab.

Lucic shows remorse... somewhat... as much as he's able to Lucic almost shows remorse for acting like a child vs the HabsIt was Markov who set him off in the post-game handshake ... even given that, Lucic not only lost to the Habs, he acted, and still acts, like a loser ... was talking to someone in Calgary a short while ago and I guess he was the same way with the Vancouver Giants ... here's how the Bruin media panders to him ... thought it was a snippet of "Slapshot" ... BH can probably tell us more, but Lucic is celebrated in Boston ... and then there's Jack Edwards ... sigh ... quite the mindset in Beantown ... Cheers.

I can see PK 'going back' to Toronto to play, right about when he's 39 years old. That's the gist I took out of that interview. A fleeting thought, not a serious consideration.

It's summer and the pity parade hasn't stopped in Toronto ... here are 10 Reasons the Leafs Will Miss the Playoffs ... there's one comment near the end that suggests there's an air of entitlement in the Toronto dressing room that's been the result of having rock star status, etc ... Cheers.

Does Berg really want to undo all the goodwill he's just generated? Move on Marc. That can is well past its shelf life.
Actually, if they're talking about a playing/coaching position in Hamilton, that might be ok.

Actually, I don't care. I just wanted a chance to use that gif. As an eighth defenseman it doesn't bother me too much. You can never have enough defensemen. He could be our next mentor/life coach. Beaulieu and Tinordi need some sofas to crash on after all. The issue, of course, is whether or not he gets too much ice time. But you can't avoid doing the right thing (getting a depth defenseman) just because you're afraid your coach might do the wrong thing with it. That would be like not getting your teenager a job because you're afraid he'll be late for work every morning. At some point you either gotta trust that he'll do the right thing, or teach him how to do so.
