At some point the Habs are going to need to give Beaulieu/Tinordi and maybe Nygren/Pateryn enough regular season NHL games to get them NHL ready and also get the coach's confidence in them up to where it needs to be. This won't happen if a 38 year old is taking up valuable ice time. GMs don't tend to get in the way of coaches making lineup decisions, but at this point it is very important that the Berg lets MT know that he needs to get his young D some critical regular season ice time this year.

Actually, I don't care. I just wanted a chance to use that gif. As an eighth defenseman it doesn't bother me too much. You can never have enough defensemen. He could be our next mentor/life coach. Beaulieu and Tinordi need some sofas to crash on after all. The issue, of course, is whether or not he gets too much ice time. But you can't avoid doing the right thing (getting a depth defenseman) just because you're afraid your coach might do the wrong thing with it. That would be like not getting your teenager a job because you're afraid he'll be late for work every morning. At some point you either gotta trust that he'll do the right thing, or teach him how to do so. The easy counter-argument against that is Darwin. Yes, coaching and Darwin. I KNOW that you can think so way, way outside the box that you joined Minds Without Borders....so you know what I'm talking about. P.S. I'm stealing the gif. LOL!

By this time in July the market buzz usually has dialed down to a stage whisper. I don't expect to hear much about hockey with the possible exception of some NHL player incurring an injury while on vacation. Let's hope that the idle Habs are working on their conditioning (and in some cases on their skating). Why in the world would Bergevin put signing fringe players on the front burner?
