I'm disappointed in both sides for not being able to get the deal done ... I keep reading about his ego ... then I read it's about Meehan controlling the process ... reading a lot of support for Bergevin and I'm also reading a lot of drama and a lot of panic ... I'm hoping he gets fair market value ... PK deserves no more/less than other players who are/were in this situation ... Cheers. Meehan works for Subban so the ultimate decisions rest with PK. Yes, I fully understood that when I made my post ... I was quoting others on the board ... Cheers.

I'm too pessimistic to believe that. He'll take his one year award & still have all the cards next year. And I think this lowers any trade value he has. Would you give up significant assets for a player in this situation - knowing that he could be gone in a year or two? Kind of surprised by how this has gone....Habs were quick and open with the pocket book to lock up other stars like Price or Pacioretty. But they nickel and dime Subban? What is a Norris Trophy winner worth, anyway? Cheers.

There's a line between ego/self-confidence and thinking you're above criticism/teaching, no? That's what was likely brought out in front of him today. I have no idea what was said between the two camps, but if ego is a specific issue in negotiations, like, if "I-won't-pay-for-that-ego" then I'd have reservations about the process and Bergevin, for that matter ... if I'm Subban's camp and they want to talk about ego, then I'd bring my guns to bear squarely on Therrien ... despite his Norris Trophy, Subban was treated like a peon right up until Therrien had no choice but to play him for the playoff run and playoffs ... Cheers.

I was in Toronto yesterday and the guy taking Bob Gowan's place pointed out just how poor a defensive defenseman PK is ... callers agreed that PK has proven little other than his offensive talents, which gave him his Norris ... That is an uneducated, poorly researched statement by the talk show guy. PK is very good at going back into his zone, retrieving the puck and making a good play with it. It's an area in which he improved a lot in the last couple of years. He has a propensity for trying to make a big statement with a big hit sometimes, which takes him out of the play, but so does Drew Doughty. It's a silly statement. If the guy had said he's not the fastest skater, or that he's a high risk, high reward type of player, fine, I'd agree. Bobby Orr still has a lingering reputation as a poor defender, which is ludicrous. He was amongst the top 5 in the league defensively IMO. He just made it look so easy that many did not appreciate it. You don't put up the +/- numbers he did without being good defensively. Anyway, that's off topic. If Berg offered around the $8MM mark and PK declined, then I' be annoyed at PK. If, however, Berg would not go above 7, then I think he needs to give his head a shake (Berg). Where the hell is our drone when we need one?
