I knew the deal with rogers would mess everything up, but I did not realize there was no one going to have english regional rights and that TSN Habs is history. TSN 3, 4, 5 will be showing Jets, Laffs and Hens respectively. I guess the Habs have no english fans. I hate Rogers more than I hate Bell. fagstein blog

I live well west of Belleville - NW of Toronto actually. I guess it's pointless having RDS.
I'm still not clear on this. Will I be able to watch all the games on TVA? What are you guys in the GTA doing?

I have already removed RDS as it is no longer of any use for Habs games out west.
I will now be able to see 32 national games, instead of the 82 that I used to get.
Yeah, this deal is good for hockey fans like Gary Bettman has indicated. Great deal Gary.

I'm also in the GTA and Rogers so I'm waiting to see what is going to happen.
The day Rogers got the deal is the day I said.....be prepared for pay per view. In fact, put money on it....because Rogers will certainly take it any way they can!

I live in Edmonton, last year I bought center ice and got just about every game.....missed out on a couple of Saturday night games because CBC had them black out, but I was able to watch them on RDS. I'm assuming that I will be able to see them on center ice again this year for the most part.

I have centre ice so unless a game is not picked up by the opposing team I am okay....I have the Rogers French pack and we have TVA does that mean the TVA games are blacked out as well in TO???...... If so I will remove it!.....what will suck is how many regional US games may not be broadcast...can't remember when I missed game. HFTO

Montreal Canadiens TV broadcast region: Atlantic Canada, Quebec, Ontario east of Belleville/Pembroke. The Canadiens see the biggest change in terms of rights because RDS is no longer the only game in town. It used to carry all Habs games nationally, but in the Rogers deal it lost the national rights to TVA Sports. It managed to get the exclusive on regional rights, but that will mean the network is blacked out west of Belleville/Pembroke, Ont. during those games. It’s also noteworthy that what constitutes a national game varies by language. There are 32 national games in English but only 22 in French. Those Wednesday and Sunday games carried nationally by Sportsnet and City, respectively, will be regional on RDS in French. There’s still no deal for English-language regional TV rights. Rumour is neither Bell nor Rogers is interested at the price the Canadiens want. Bell’s TSN Habs channel has been shut down. National TV (English): 21 Saturday night games on Hockey Night in Canada 5 Wednesday games on Sportsnet E/O/W/P 4 Sunday games on City 1 Sunday game on Sportsnet E/O/W/P 1 Thursday game on Sportsnet 360 National TV (French): 1 Wednesday night game on TVA Sports (season opener) 21 Saturday night games on TVA Sports Regional TV (English): No broadcast deal announced Regional TV (French): 60 games on RDS Radio (English): All 82 games on TSN Radio 690 Radio (French): All 82 games on CHMP 98.5 I refer you to the fact that this is not necessarily "new news" . . . English: starting next year Rogers has all national rights. 32 Habs games will (either on Sportsnet, City, or CBC via sub license) be aired nationally. TSN, as the Habs' regional broadcaster, will continue to air 50 Habs games within the team's local broadcast region. Outside of that region, Rogers owns the broadcast rights. [I'm not sure what this means for national broadcast].French: Rogers has sublicensed the 22 national games to TVA. RDS will continue to air the remaining games on a regional basis in French. For Habs fans, the greatest benefit will be for those living elsewhere in Canada who always have had their games over ruled by Leafs games...now those games will be seen everywhere without blackout. Rogers has the rights to 32 Habs games this year. TSN still has regional Habs games; some may be network-wide although they may only air on the TSN-Habs channel. new is the TSN Habs channel shut-down . . . I should hear more in a day or two.

This is all very depressing. I'll miss the Pierre Houde and Marc Denis play-by-play. I enjoyed the Antichambre as well. RDS was the best deal in hockey but money talks obviously.

Rogers is not to blame for this silly situation… They won the National broadcast deal with the NHL fair and square by swooping it from the hands of BCE who were acting like fat cats… The current broadcast mess of the CH, falls solely on the Canadiens who instead of going 100% of their game with Rogers (and follow the NHL lead who gave National games to Rogers) they decided to give their regional broadcast to RDS… forcing users to subscribe to 2 channels (… National games are on TVA Sports/Sportsnet, regional games are on RDS/TSN… ) …
Being partly owned by BCE, they thought of their pockets not their fans.

So that you know . . . as you "blame" Rogers/Sportsnet, blame the NHL and Bell as well.
The NHL's idea of "national" is 22 games; SN managed to up that to 32 games for the Habs. The French national package was restricted to 22 games, so you'll see that TVA will air 22, not 32 games nationally in French. The remaining 60 French (regional) games are RDS' within the Habs territory (which is effectively East of Kingston).
SN is still trying to resolve the English Regional rights within the Habs territory issue (Bell did not renew), and the distribution of the RDS games outside of their territory.
As difficult as it is to wait, things should be resolved eventually.
As a good friend of mine said, While there's only 49 days to go until puck-drop, there's still 49 days to go until puck-drop, so the rest of the story is still being written.
49 days to go!

I haven't been on there for a while, but the last time I tried accessing the site a slash screen appeared saying that the site has been seized ... however, www.firstrowsports.il is up and running ... it has the same format, so navigating through the site isn't all that bad ... Cheers.

Picture quality varies, usually in the 480p range. But, it's free. Be sure, however, to run a browser like Firefox or Chrome, and install "Adblock Plus". The former are much safer browsers than IE, and the latter blocks all the popups and embedded ads you would otherwise encounter.

Same goes for some file sharing sites. Piratebay has been hunted, rather publicly, by a few governments. I use kicka$$ torrents for stuff because, contrary to what the US government may believe, it's not illegal to share files in Canada. Kickass originally started with their servers in the Philippines. That got shut down briefly, and they reappeared with the '.to' extension which is Tonga.

Guys....
I have absolutely no problem talking about torrents and the like, heck, I'm all ears......just worried a bit about our TofS of the site. Rather then making the mods learn the TofS (they use big words and we ain't that bright) or getting some nasty pm from the site, be a lot more obtuse about it.......

From what I understand, TVA won't be playing the National games. It will be TVA sport. TVA comes free in my Base Cable package. TVA Sport is an extra that I have to pay for.
I don't blame the Canadiens organization for sticking with RDS. They showed Loyalty to the broadcast company that signed them to their contract when no one else would. RDS is by far the best broadcast company to showcase the Habs. Just sucks that I have to suck up to Quebecor(VIDEOTRON) and pay for a channel owned by Quebecor(TVA SPORT). .

Rule of thumb, read the ratings and comments from people who've already downloaded the whole file. Before you open the file, right click and scan it with your AV software. In this day and age of file sharing, it really has become far more rare for viruses and spyware to propagate that way. The dangers exist more in pop up advertisements and bundled freeware (programs you try that come with browser toolbars etc). In the case of pop ups, using Firefox along with the Adblock Plus plugin found in link below saves you from those dangers. An added benefit is that all the embedded adds on youtube are gone, including the ones in the video window that play before you can watch the video you actually went to see. addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/

I'm a Rogers subscriber just north of the GTA. I have TVA sports but I don't know if it's part of my regular package or it is there because I bought a French language package that includes RDS. Will have to call Rogers I guess. Rogers has a habit of dropping channels of your lineup without warning.

I am with Bell TV TVA Sports came with the French package I was subscribing to in order to get RDS. It was 15$/month. Now That RDS is useless for me without the Habs, I cancelled the package and lost TVA Sport. However, from what I understand, the games on TVA Sport will ALSO be on either Sportsnet, CityTV or HNIC, so really no need to pay for it anymore. The games we will lose are the ones that RDS will broadcast (because we are East of Kingston). If Rogers doesn't do anything about those games, I suppose our only option will be the Center Ice Package. That's the way I understand it anyway. Quite upset about that. I will miss RDS. Imagine, listening to the Habs on Sportsnet with all the Leafs fanatics (Kypreos and company). We think HNIC was bad ? Wait for Sportsnet and City TV.
