Is it in a specialty Sportsnet channel is or is it on channel 22 on Rogers? If it is, I just saved myself 7 bucks a month....and will investing it wisely in blow and hookers..... That's Sportsnet Ontario, not Sportsnet East, HA. but if you scoot up to channel 74 . . .

Will I be able to see the regional game in Edmonton? Or will I have to stick with Center Ice?

NHL blackout rules apply. even if you get Sportsnet East you may be blacked out . . . west of Belleville (I'm still waiting for clarification).
it may be RDS for the rest of you.

They were announcing this as a big deal on Sportsnet at 6PM. Talking like we are going to be able to see all the games. No mention of blackouts.
Didn't sound any better coming from Hazel Mae.
BTW: The count of national games on the graphic looked like 33 games.

Here's the story jkr is talking about. Complete with broadcast schedule. Looking through the schedule, it appears Sportsnet Ontario, West, and Pacific won't be carrying the regional games. Only Sportsnet East. Maybe it's been asked here already, but if RDS doesn't provide the same number of games, are residents west of the designated Habs/Leafs Divide eligible to subscribe to Sportsnet East? If not, then that's a blackout/blacklist policy. The game WILL BE available on their network. All they have to do is flip a switch in exchange for a few $$ per month. I'm on Bell ExpressVu....I wonder what they'll be offering. Have to wait and see. Habs fans will see every play, every save, and every goal of every period for the next three seasons as Sportsnet today announced it has reached a three-year broadcast rights agreement with the Montreal Canadiens, becoming the official English-language regional television rights holder.
The new agreement begins this season and includes 42 regional games. When combined with the national package of 40 Canadiens games, the NHL on Sportsnet will deliver to fans all 82 regular season games across nine channels including CBC, City, Sportsnet (East, Ontario, West, and Pacific), Sportsnet ONE, Sportsnet 360 and FX Canada. The deal runs through the 2016/17 season, making Sportsnet the exclusive Canadian English-language broadcaster of the Montreal Canadiens.
“The Canadiens are one of the most storied franchises in all of sports. This is more than icing on the cake for hockey fans, and for us,” said Scott Moore, President, Sportsnet and NHL, Rogers. “Today’s agreement, combined with our national package, allows us to serve Eastern Canada and connect Habs fans to their beloved team by creating a one-stop-shop to watch all of the games.”
“The Montreal Canadiens are pleased to have concluded an English-language regional broadcasting agreement with Sportsnet that will enable a greater number of Habs hockey fans in the province of Quebec and in Eastern Canada to see the Canadiens in action,” said Kevin Gilmore, Canadiens’ Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. “Over the years, Sportsnet has acquired a strong reputation with the quality of their hockey broadcasts and this agreement will continue to enhance the hockey experience on television for our fans.”
The Habs’ regular season broadcast schedule kicks off Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. ET on Sportsnet as the Canadiens pay a visit to Toronto to renew the oldest rivalry in the NHL on opening night of the NHL regular season (see full broadcast schedule below).
On TV – Regional
Sportsnet’s regional television broadcast schedule begins on Monday, Oct. 13 at 7:30 p.m. ET on City Montreal as the Habs visit Steven Stamkos and the Lightning in Tampa Bay.
Sportsnet East will be home to 39 regional Habs games, with three additional regional games airing on City Montreal.
Highlights from Sportsnet’s regional Habs schedule include: • Seven Original Six matchups featuring Boston, Detroit, New York and Chicago • Eight all-Canadian showdowns on Sportsnet East and City Montreal • Two matchups against defending Stanley Cup Champions Los Angeles Kings
On TV – National
The NHL on Sportsnet will air 40 national Montreal Canadiens matchups this season, marking more national games available than ever before. Highlights from the Habs national broadcast package include: • 22 Saturday night matchups on Hockey Night in Canada beginning Saturday, Oct. 11, as the Habs host the Flyers in Montreal (channel allocations to be announced on a weekly basis) • 6 Scotiabank Wednesday Night Hockey games, beginning Wednesday, Oct. 8 as the Habs face off vs. the Leafs in Toronto on Sportsnet • 5 Rogers Hometown Hockey Sunday matchups, the newest national night on the NHL schedule
In addition to Sportsnet’s Montreal Canadiens regional broadcasts, the NHL on Sportsnet will deliver more than 500 national and regional regular season NHL games across nine networks, including CBC, City, Sportsnet (East, Ontario, West, and Pacific), Sportsnet ONE, Sportsnet 360 and FX Canada. The NHL on Sportsnet has exclusive Canadian broadcast coverage of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Stanley Cup Final, NHL All-Star Game, NHL Draft Lottery, NHL Draft, and the NHL Awards. Sportsnet is also the official regional television broadcast rights holder for the Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, Toronto Maple Leafs (including radio rights on Sportsnet 590 The FAN) and Calgary Flames (including radio rights on Sportsnet 960 The FAN).

so here it is, and it's bad news: regional means that if you do not live east of Belleville/Pembroke you are SOL for English games on the tube. 32 games across Canada. better than it has been, but not as good as anticipated.

Two additional options ... I've been tinkering with streaming the games I don't get ... there are a few non-pay sites, but the quality of the signal isn't always the best ... looking at getting rid of satellite TV and just getting everything online ... hook up the stream to the TV and you're set ... I don't think the cost is more expensive than what Bell, Cogeco, etc offers in their bundle selections ... I plan on using the second option from time to time ... I used to listen to Dick Irvin on AM radio back in the 70's and 80's ... radio brings a whole different perspective to the call ... I like the call on AM 690 ... it's a good broadcast and I can see myself tuning in from time to time ...
Cheers.

It starts out well and then worse by December........IF they are doing well, I guess I can get 3 months of RDS. Assuming of course that Sportsnet East is blacked out.
I talked to Robbers earlier in the day, apparently, if you have VIP package, you get all the Sportsnet channels. I asked about blackouts and he didn't know and neither did his supervisor. He thinks that VIP has no blackouts.

so here it is, and it's bad news: regional means that if you do not live east of Belleville/Pembroke you are SOL for English games on the tube. 32 games across Canada. better than it has been, but not as good as anticipated. Are you with Robbers? If so, do you have the VIP package or get Sportsnet in a basic package? If you give me the answer I want to hear, I will send you half of my Sexy Seventies collection.......

I have the digital (2nd tier) package. go to their web site . . . I think you get the SN channels with basic even (chs 74-78 or something like that).

On the schedule, I count 42 "regional" games on Sporstnet East or City Montreal. 40 for "National" broadcast. Where does the "32 across Canada" come in? Sorry if I'm missing something obvious. naw I thought 40, then checked the first email I got telling me what was coming and it said 32 -- I think 32 might be on the main SN network and the others on CITY etc. I've have to check later . . . too early in the morning for me
