... and 8-1 to win the conference ... that's the best of the Canadian teams ... next is Toronto at 45-1 ... Vancouver 55-1 ... Edmonton, Ottawa and Winnipeg 65-1 ... Calgary 100-1 ... Cheers. Edit: Here's the link for NHL Futures

I think Ottawa is in a lot of trouble this year, Franko ... how much gas in the tank does Neil have left ... their d is suspect after Karlsson and Methot ... they'll be coached well so I don't think they'll be pushovers but I can't see them doing much this year ... Tampa is the team to watch, IMHO ... don't know what to expect from Toronto ... they're not contenders but they'll play us well, too ... Cheers.

Ottawa will remain in the struggling dark for a while, as long as Melnyk says "field me a team that I don't have to pay much for". sneaking into the playoffs is their best hope. Turris, an injured and maybe to-be-traded Ryan, MacArthur, Legwand, Michalek, Chiasson . . . and then a less-than-stellar d. Cici (could we pry him from them?). other than that . . . dark days ahead.

Ottawa would be better if their owner opened his purse to at least the NHL Cap level. Dark days indeed, with no end in sight until Melnyk sells the team. Perhaps if the fans would just start staying away? Nah, then he'd move the team to Las Vegas.

They got career years out of everyone in the lineup in McLean's 2nd year as coach, their goalies played all season like Halak did in 2010 playoffs and it was MT stupidity and foolishness that allowed them to get past us in the first round. Last year the Jack Adams winner coached them to 11th place and out of the playoffs. As long as Melnyk owns the team, they will be like the Leafs... perennial losers. Tampa will be a challenge this year, They have a good group of forwards and good goaltending but I am unsure of their depth on D. The B's will be a shell of their former selves.

Mehhhhh....let me know the odds with a healthy Price and how the team played last year playoffs.... The odds actually fluctuate as the season progresses, HA ... but, hey, 18-1 are pretty good odds for an unproven lineup ... you'll note that Boston is still up there but I think those odds reflect last year's (regular season) success ... I think the odds will fluctuate as the season goes on ... beside, 18-1 isn't all that bad a starting point ... Cheers.

Edit: Here's the link for NHL FuturesWell, it's not 29:1, and the odds against it may drop as the season progresses.I don't foresee a championship for the Habs but they could once again cement the exit from the Bruins' hibernation cave.

I'd put Winnipeg ahead of Edmonton. The Jets need improved seasons from Kane and Pavelec, but they're far more complete than the Oilers. The Oilers big summer move was to throw a lot of money at Benoit Pouliot. They don't play well defensively. They don't have a shutdown center, or quality depth on the blue line. There are question marks about each of their goalies, and whether either can go prolonged stretches as the #1.
The biggest stumbling block for the Leafs, imo, is character. There seems to be a constant state of turmoil, on and off the ice. Media was already riding Kessel for his ever present 'baby fat', and he admitted that his summer contained very little skating. Kessel reminds me of an old school player in that he uses camp to get into shape (or the best shape he's gonna be in at least). There are serious question marks about other players and their overall relationship with the coach.
The Sens are thin. Ryan and Turris are going to be relied upon for most of the offense. MacArthur and Michalek will be expected to be the secondary guys, and Legwand the shutdown guy. Will Anderson bounce back, or was his season of a couple of years ago the blip some people think it was.
The Canucks are about confidence and gelling with their new coach - who should be a better fit. There's still lots of talent, but much of it is veteran. I think the Kesler trade should improve moral. He was a malcontent. Bonino is a fire plug, Sbisa is a good all around defender. Iginla should fit well in the Sedins cycle game. Horvat looks ready. There's a lot of moving parts, but I think they can bounce back this year.
The Habs are about staying healthy. I think there's good depth up front. Not elite level depth, but not thin either. An injury or two can be covered. On defense, there will still be a huge reliance on Subban and Markov. Either goes down long term, and we'll struggle. Emelin moving to his natural side will help. I see them in the thick of it for the Atlantic with Boston and Tampa. Detroit is old, and not deep. Too many questions in Toronto. The Panthers are the Panthers; improving, but not there yet. Ottawa is going to struggle to score imo. Buffalo is very young, but filled with promise.
EDIT: For some reason I thought Iggy signed with Vancouver. He's with the Avs. Duh.
