Sorry I turned off the game at 1-0 Detroit with about 6:00 left….but I couldn't take it!
Not pretty for long stretches…but they got it done.
Some one-way officiating…but we got the GI call on Detroit's second goal…so can't complain too much.
2 Ws in SO. 1 W in OT. 1 W in the final minute. Only one W by 2 goals…and that was an empty-netter.
Playing well….but not dominant….we're still not playing our best hockey.

6-1. how'm'I supposed to complain about MT and his coaching?
they fought, they didn't quit.
we don't like that they come back in the third? last year they disappeared those last few minutes of the game. I'll take it.

How much better would we look with:
Bourque OUT and Bournival IN….
Moen OUT and Sekac IN.

Bork was putrid....no second effort at all.
I'm thrilled they won their 6th.....but....and there are always two sides to a butt.....this is not how you contend. Most of the game, we look like we mailed it in.
How about we play 60 minutes?

They're resilient. I'll give them that. I stuck it out tonight. Thanks CH for leaving, and allowing for victory. Galchenyuk, Galchenyuk, Galchenyuk. He's showing his worth. He can score the pretty one, the ugly one, go to the net without the puck, his ability to out muscle guys. Etc, etc, etc. Price was very sharp in the first 30 minutes. Howard was stellar in the second 30 minutes. Detroit is going to play a lot of games like this. Extremely well coached, disciplined, low scoring games.

MT, post-game (paraphrased):
A lot of things I really liked. Stuck to the plan. Battled hard. We knew we were playing a team that doesn't give you much…and we got 36 shots.
Defensively, I thought we played tight, we took away their time and space. Going in the right direction.
Alex (Galchy) is working hard….good chemistry with Pleks and Parenteau….the kid's got character….that's what we like about him.
Detroit's a really good team. That was a high-paced game. You gotta fight through a lot of things to get your ice….but we were resilient. We controlled our emotions….their goalie was frustrating us.
All the offsides? Tough to explain.

I wasn't sure if we were going to pot one tonight or not ... Detroit took some shots but they were in shutdown mode ... very good win over a very good team ... a team that swept the Leafs ... 6-1 ...
Cheers.

There's not a lot of offense, and what's there is old.

AGal is a stud. Can't believe how good this guy is at 20. LOOK OUT!!!
Not a Moen fan but thought he played well. Not sure why Sekac wasn't dressed.
I don't like Gilbert and i thought he continued to be a turnover machine. A number of times Manny won the face-off back to our D - Gilbert, and we were unable to clear on the pk. Beau please!
Can't believe the non-calls on the wings.
this game could have been over in the second if not for Howard's horseshoes (DD, Parenteau). Couldn't believe Babs circled the wagons and started dumping and not chasing with 10 mins left. We would have criticized MT for that.

Went to Detroit's HF board....the general consensus is their PP sucks...and the refs screwed them over.

I think the refs did screw them over a bit with that interference call that negated the goal, as to me anyways it looked like it was Price that initiated the contact. Having said that, the Red Wings were, as jkr put it, doing their best Devil-Maul routine all game long. I couldn't believe the amount of outright tackles I seemed to be seeing, nevermind the cross-checks and slashes. 6-1. Hard to argue with the record, especially since they don't seem to be firing on all cylinders for 60 minutes most (all) games. But you gotta love a team that has that "we're going to win" swagger about it, which is what I think they have so far this year. I don't get that "we need to fluke into a goal to get things going" vibe about the team this year. Instead it's more like "only a matter of time". They have warts, for sure, don't get me wrong. The third line has been a disappointment, and the defense doesn't always inspire a lot of confidence, but they're getting there. Hopefully by the end of the year Tinordi and Emelin will round into top shut-down defensemen, and Bourque and Eller will find their playoff magic. Because otherwise they look pretty good. For now of course.

A dominant 3rd period flipped the Corsi advantage slightly in favor of the Habs, but they applied the pressure when they had to. You like to see better starts. We used to be a really good 1st period team.
The Eller line isn't producing goals, but the advanced stats tell a different story. For example, Eller had a 54% Corsi rating (15 shot attempts for vs. 13 shot attempts allowed) but only 30% of his zone starts came in the offensive zone. That tells you that his line is effective at getting possession in the defensive zone and directing offense at the other end. When you start shifts in the defensive zone as often as the Eller line, it's harder to produce offense. Last night the Pleks/Galchenyuk line was the biggest beneficiary of favorable zone starts with over 70% starting in the offensive zone. Still, Eller needs to drive more production on that line.
Interesting that Tinordi seems to have put Beaulieu in the press box for now. Didn't see that coming after the pre-season. Is Tinordi just a better fit on this team right now?

Eller, unfortunately, has to pull the USS Bork along with him so I don't expect Eller to produce until Bork can contribute in a positive manner. Sekac got benched, but imo, he was far more engaged and effective than Bork. Eller, Sekac and Bournival would be a good, big, fast and strong 3rd line. I think Tinordi has a good first pass, can skate the puck out and brings the size that beau doesn't, plus he can scrap with the bigger boys and helps keep Prust from having to fight. The 4th line is playing really well right now and don't want to lose anybody on it.

For now of course. Price did initiate contact and that's why the penalty was called. It was 100% by the book (Price knows this and did something similar during last season's playoffs as well). The specific wording in the rule book is: If a goalkeeper, in the act of establishing his position within his goal crease, initiates contact with an attacking player who is in the goal crease, and this results in an impairment of the goalkeeper’s ability to defend his goal, and a goal is scored, the goal will be disallowed.Under the current rules the referee made the right call. Come on, guys, we didn't have a call "go our way", we witnessed a referee who made the correct call.

Agree totally. I was never a big fan of the Gilbert signing as I thought that spot should of went to Beaulieu. There would be short term pain with having 2 "rookies" as defenceman, but in the long run it would be more beneficial. I think by signing Weaver to a 1 year contract, it made it easier to split the time between Beaulieu and Tinordi depending on the matchups. It is a bridge contract so the other 2 could become full time platers next year.
