I heard Conor McKenna make a salient point, IMO, last night on the TSN690 post game show.
Paraphrased:
The only player who consistently enters the zone in control of the puck to set up a play is Sekac. You watch…Therrien will slowly coach it out of him. You have a guy who can play a possession game, but he'll be told to just dump and chase…like the rest of them.
McKenna went much further than that…but that was the gist.
In the same arena is Subban. I think he KNEW he had to play HIS game to get the big contract, and take Therrien's browbeating as a consequence.
Now that he's got the big bucks, he's playing Therrien's game. Simple as that.
Yes, he's getting more attention from defenders…but so have all the great offensive dmen over the years, but they still found ways to make things happen. PK is no longer doing that.
He should be given the green light to GO whenever he sees the opportunity…especially against a team like the Sabres.
If he plays stay-at-home again tonight, you know something's up.

But even on the power play PK doesn't take it into the zone. Can't be too much attention from the other team as if that were the case we should have 1 or 2 players wide open and PK could find them. I would love to blame this on MT but just don't see PK caving in now that he's got his security. There must be something else going on.

Unless it's because PK feels that he has to support the coach as a captain in waiting. Sometimes one does things they don't agree with because they have to. Until a certain point of course, but we may not be there yet.

MT unfortunately is going nowhere....what worries me is he could screw up this teams window ...not convinced they are quite there but it is a concern, and worth watching....MB's downfall maybe tied to MT ...let's hope he can make enough of the right moves even MT can't screw it up. It's obvious they are on the same page with D ...unless MB's will force MT's hand later this season with the kids. So much going on it's even tough for us to figure out the plan let alone what we really have here?

I thought I saw at least two times last night where PK carried it over the blueline .... Both times no one supported him, or he had the freshest legs

Tokarski in goal. We'll see how well our defense is in front of him tonight.

Jim trelliving was on Bob McKowns show this week talking about the Flames. The two strongest points he made were the amazing play and leadership of Mark Giordano and his surprise at how good Bob Hartley is. He said he didn't know much about Hartley when he joined the Flames but that since, he has seen how good a teacher he is and how much of a winner he is. Interestingly, he thinks Hartley did some of his best work in Florida, where the record wasn't that good. He must have had some brutal teams. A huge disappointment of mine was when we didn't hire Hartley. He wins more than his share and this years Flames are the epitome of hard work and no quit despite less than inspiring talent. Sigh. We had our chance.

Tokarski in goal. We'll see how well our defense is in front of him tonight. I got to wonder why our elite goalie can't play two nights in a row ... Especially against Buffalo, and the snooze fest last night. Will we ever see him play back to back? That's like giving up on one of those games right from the get go, ...ok, not giving up, but resigning yourself to not icing your best team against one

I look at our lineup, and there is not one single player that I don't like. Haven't been able to say that for a long time!

We've had the majority of puck possession if that counts for anything ... definitely a step faster than they were last night seems ...
Cheers.

This will be unpopular, but that goal was a Desharnais' gaff .... He tried to make an impossible pass instead of taking the easy shot. Goes the other way on an odd man rush , and we are down 1-0 , again

Should I start playing taps or is it a tad early? Why can't we score?

Lots of zone time in this period, but not many shots. Shoot it.

I was kind of afraid of that ... we were playing a pretty good game up to that point and the Sabres get one chance ... goal ... Sekac with 3 hits already ...
Cheers.

What a surprise, down early. The guys are controlling things once again, just no finish. Everything is predictable though, got to crash the net and create some mayhem.

PK tries a rush ... Galchenyuk goes offside .... Nothing is going right.
Buffalo clogs up the zone, montreal has no answer except shoot from outside and not get to a rebound

Another game down 1-0 after the first period. 18th time in 26 games ... Contenders? We still haven't replaced the missing goals from last year. If Bergevin doesn't do it soon, we will soon say "why do it now, we aren't going to win this year"
