Here are highlights of his hat-trick vs. Gilles Gilbert and Minnesota on Feb. 11, 1971, culminating in his 500th goal in a 6-2 win. Many highlights show him with a deke to the backhand....two of them in this game. And yes, he had a slapshot. Pat Hickey covered the game for the Gazette. One excerpt from Hickey's story sums up M. Beliveau.... Béliveau demonstrated his class later that evening when he tracked down Gilbert. He told the goaltender not to be discouraged and predicted Gilbert would have a great career. Gilbert would play 416 NHL games and he would figure in another historic night at the Forum.

BC aptly posted this full clip in the Highlight Reel thread…. ... and now, with (assumed) blatant disregard for what M. Béliveau stood for and his respect for and outreaching to all fans, the money has spoken. Sometime late yesterday Bell Média Inc. has claimed 'copyright protection' and has had the HD full ceremony removed from YouTube. I guess they will be having a 'tv special' or a dvd coming out at sometime and want to ensure they can have paying sponsors for it ... It is quite apparent that the 'decision makers' at bell either missed or were not paying attention to the heart of the messages and commentary about the life and legacy of M. Béliveau. To me; this 'corporate message' speaks much louder than any channel / programming guffaws & I will be dropping Bell and switching to another provider later today. Shame on you, Bell.

I hope I'm not breaking any rules by posting this... It's a video of the ceremony that was uploaded by the Montreal Canadiens official Youtube page, so I think it should be ok. Its 8 min long and includes the ovation and moment of silence.

Frozone, you can't break any rules anywhere posting youtube LINKS. It's the sites intent and the reason for it's existence is to be linked. (and sell you ad time)
Thanks for the posting Olbermann BC. He's a partisan blowhard, but he blew in the right direction this time.

Frozone, you can't break any rules posting youtubes. what about suggesting that people use a youtube downloader to save the clip to their computer for future viewing -- is that OK? if it is, I'll suggest that people do it; if not, I won't. just looking for a little direction here . . .

Because I played a lawyer on tv..... Technically, youtubes term of service "You shall not copy, reproduce, distribute, transmit, broadcast, display, sell, license, or otherwise exploit any Content for any other purposes without the prior written consent of YouTube or the respective licensors of the Content." They only want you to stream so they can sell you adverts. All youtube videos are copyrighted, even if they are created by amateurs. On the other hand, a long established case law in the US allows for recording of content for time shifting and personal use. It is backed by the US Supreme Court decision 30 years ago as fair use. On the other, other hand, accessing streamed content on your hard drive is "illegal". No really, it is. I don't know about Canada. It's one of those legal "threats" that exist in the books, but would be taken down by existing Supreme Court decisions of accessing for fair use. On the other, other, other hand, it's accessing streamed content is by definition on your hard drive or other recording device and legal for time shifting purposes (fair use and US Supreme Court backed decision). I'm running out of hands....... As far as I know from my expert legal team of actors playing lawyers, youtube has not taken anyone to court over this, nor do I think they really want to challenge it, lose it and then they can't do squat about it. Google would be downright stupid to try to fight it. It would probably create a another streaming service and start eating their sandwich. Under Canadian law, in fair dealing, you are allowed to use a portion of a video for research, education, reporting, etc. Plus time shifting. So as far as my two cents worth of legal advice, if you recorded it to make a future video on the subject, you probably wont get waterboarded. That is if anyone knew about it to begin with. (PS: I edited my original post to make it clearer that I am talking about links.)

They should rename Ste. Catherine. If they can rename Dorchester for Levesque then why not. Who the heck was Ste. Catherine and what did she ever do for Mtl?

Considering that I'm pretty sure no one knows which St. Catherine the street was named after (there are several different St. Catherines) I think you have a point habsorbed. Everyone knows Jean Beliveau, so why not change the street name accordingly.

For a second I thought that this was "news". Besides my "senior" moment, the bigger thought was how people can forget over time.
The vast majority of us are who we are when alive.......but nothing more then a fading memory after that.

Knew we could count on you Cranky to cheer us all up Problem for me is that while I'm alive my memory is fading Who are you again? I never had a "steel trap" for a mind and lately, I'm more diligent about doing things that require less of me "remembering". On my jackets, wallet left inner pocket, phone right inner pocket, keys right side pocket. So when i leave the house or use the phone or wallet, i do a quick check. We were out with our friends, after dinner, i put on my jacket and did a quick check, his wife asked me if there was domething wrong. "Nope, just doing a nipple check to make sure they are there". Few seconds of awkward silence ......and then she kealed over with laughter. Apparently, checking ones nipples can do thst to people........
