Are you scanning your collection of cards, Dis? Those are great!
Well, we can salvage these 5 games at .500, which would be acceptable…or deepen the slump.
I don't know what to expect.
Since Beliveau's passing, we've played in the two final franchise cities he faced on the way to his last Cup…and tonight it's the former Minnesota North Stars, on whom he scored his 500th goal that same season.
Habs current rankings:
Goals For: 21st Goals Against: 12th PP%: 23rd PK%: 8th

I do have a lot of these cards in my personal collection, but I'm not scanning these cards, I'm finding them online ... the problem is getting images that are the same size from the same year ... also, MS Explorer doesn't allow images to be viewed on their own ... I'm a Firefox user and this is how I can link to the images ... it's kind of neat when I can find Export A Calendar pages ... there's a lot out there, but mostly of the Leafs, Habs ... other Original Six teams are there, too, but not as frequently ... and, yes, I have a few calendar pages in frames downstairs Cheers.

I always liked that off-kilter N in the North Stars logo.

Bobby Smith and Steve Payne! All that is missing is Al MacAdam and his winning goal in Game 7 of the 1980 quarter-finals at the a Forum. To this day probably the most devastating playoff loss of my lifetime. That ended our run of 4 straight Cups but as a youth I was depressed for weeks. I still haven't gotten over that one.

I thought I remembered something odd about that series…so I had to look it up. We were down 2-0 heading to Minnesota and won the next 3 quite handily. 5-0, 5-1, 6-2. Maybe the boys got a little over-confident after Game 5….but the Stars had other ideas. No Bowman, Lemaire, Dryden. Devastating…you bet. The stats site says Larocque and Herron played 5 games each in those playoffs.

Here's Game 7, if you want to scan through it. 1:26 left in the third period. Ouch. The Habs had a few injuries at that time--most importantly Lafleur, who wrecked his knee on a hit by Pat Boutette in Round 1 vs. the Whalers. Wish I could find a clip/still of that hit. Now that I've looked it up, I remember being very angry about it. Guy was never really the same after that. But he was still on fire that year…50G, 75A for 3rd overall in league scoring. Sure missed his offense and presence vs. the North Stars.

I was trying to find a card from the same set/year that was the same size as the others but I ran ... that 4-Cup run was over and it actually knocked the wind out of me ... right back down to earth ... a little bit of story ... I saw both Smith and Payne play in Ottawa ... I remember Smith's rookie year ... he was a tall, skinny beanpole who avoided any contact (he simply couldn't handle it) but he was on the 67's despite being cut from his old high school team ... I'm going to add a MacAdam card shortly ... if I have to change the entire year I'll do that, too ... Cheers.

We were on the down slide by then but thought with a healthy Flower it would have been a great series against the Isles and we could have matched the 5 in a row.

I have 4 of those Bobby Smith cards above .... He was my favourite player growing up.
Bobby Smith out scored Gretzky 192 to 182 in the OMJHL before getting drafted

I always liked that off-kilter N in the North Stars logo. Wasn't there are junior team in Montreal North during the seventies that used that logo? Pretty sure they were called the Montreal North Stars.

Short turn around. Played at 8:30 Eastern last night & are playing at 7 Eastern tonight. Coupled with the travel to Dallas I am expecting another slow start tonight.

the good thing about tonight is that we're playing Dallas, and their goaltending is to say the least suspect. I know this because I have Lehtonen in my pool and he's letting me down big time.

You've got Kari Let-one-in and I've got Jonathan Burn-me ... it's like having Marty Turco in my pool a few years back ... he killed any chance I might have had in winning goaltending stats ... Cheers.

We were on the down slide by then but thought with a healthy Flower it would have been a great series against the Isles and we could have matched the 5 in a row. I forget the actual play….but some sites say it was a deliberate knee-on-knee…and some say it was a clean hip check. I remember being outraged at the time. Boutette was coming off two straight 4-0 playoff oustings at the hands of the Habs while he was a Leaf. My memory says he did it on purpose.

I'm curious why Andrighetto was called up to play centre on the 3rd line. On a pure merit scale Hudon s/b up.

In Eller's absence, it would make sense to try Galchenyuk at centre.....seeing as Andrighetto is a winger....
I would align the centres this way...
Pleks @ #1 Galchenyuk @ #2 DD @ #3 Malholtra @ #4
Instead, MT has Sekac at centre. Is he messing with our heads (insulting hockey IQ) on purpose???

Pleks just didn't make a play that bugs me. Galchy steals the puck from a Star on the left boards by the faceoff circle, drives around the net, and Pleks stays behind the net and blocks his path instead of going to the front, opening room for Galchy and being a potential scoring threat. Nope, easier to hang behind the net and hope Galchenyuk pass him the puck. A little lack of courage there, Tomas. C'mon guy, get competitive.
