Per twitter, he's not at practice today for the purpose of being placed on waivers.
His cap hit with Montreal was $2.691 million. If he clears, not sure what it will be. Was easy on Capgeek. Haven't figured out if NHLnumbers will give me such a 'report'.

No surprise. It's about a month since he played. EDIT: blny - I'm only 300 posts behind you & closing.

I always feel for such players at the wind-down stage of their careers….mid-30s....you know you're not going to regain the steps you've lost…nobody really wants you…nothing more than a pawn in a much larger chess game.
Easier to take with the money they've made….no doubt.
Good luck to him.
And good on MB and MT for not riding him a la Douglas Murray.

I can never remember the numbers with the new waiver rules. I think the Habs end up with 800k more available for a deadline acquisition. That's a sizable chunk in Feb.

Hopefully he clears and gets sent down to Hamilton. I would feel better having him around to add some depth for a playoff run if needed.

Too bad, really ... his best days are well behind him ... good luck to him, indeed ... Hopefully he clears and gets sent down to Hamilton. I would feel better having him around to add some depth for a playoff run if needed. It wouldn't be hard to bring him back onto the roster if Bergevin needed, anyway ... no re-entry waivers ... and, you know, as much as I like the guy (I've talked to him in the past ... very good fella) I'd hope Tinordi gets the nod if need be ... Cheers.

The formula used when attempting to bury contracts in the minors (The Wade Redden Rule) is Cap hit - (min. NHL salary + $375, 000) We will save $925,000 based on a full year. With the year being half over, I'd expect we would save approx $400,000

Allen was once a high draft pick with tons of potential. Hope Tinordi has better career than him.

Give MB credit. It was always about dumping Bourque and his salary. We are a much better team without Allen and Bourque and their salaries.
And Tinordi has now moved up a notch!

Sure, it's easy to say "the money" but they're human beings too, and more than that they are super competitive, ultra-proud human beings to boot. You don't get to the NHL if you're not. Allen has probably been playing hockey since he was a small child, literally his entire life, over 30 years, and he sees the end. That's gotta be disappointing no matter how much money he has in the bank. And to go out on waivers? Yeah, I'm sure that hurts. But it's a cut-throat business and good on Bergevin for making the hard decisions. He's a former player (and a fairly recent one to boot) so it could have been easy for him to get all sentimental, but he didn't.

Looking at this in hindsight, I don`t think Allen was in the Ducks plans either ... Anaheim traded for Eric Brewer just as soon as they moved Allen to Montreal ... like Allen, Brewer is older but a bit better, IMHO ... I guess the writing was on the wall for Allen in Anaheim ...
Cheers.

Saw some media tweets indicating that Allen cleared waivers.
Interesting nostalgic note that Ryan White did as well.
