Right out of the gate.
Tampa's a better overall team at the moment. No question.
Outshot 36-22.

Not sure about your first sentiment, CH. They managed to kill a 5-on-3 and take a first period lead. The second period is easily one of the worst I've seen all year.

From what I saw of the game there was no compete level ... Tampa Bay was clearly the better team ...

Bad news - we play them 3 more times.
Good news - we play them 3 more times.
Going to have to figure them out. They've had their way with us.
Our d can't handle their forecheck. I don't think their d is especially strong, but we didn't spend a whole lot of time attacking.

This game fits that old cliche - the one about that 1st game back from a road trip being a poor effort.

Post-game show focussing on PK's penalty from the bench that resulted in the 2-1 Tampa PP goal.
Therrien, when asked about it, said it was undisciplined...but didn't go any further.
Marinaro wanted Subban benched for a bit after that....just to get the attention of the bench.
Melnick says PK will own up to it and be better the next game.
Personally, I wouldn't read too much into this game in that respect....I'd be looking more at which areas the Bolts are better.

There's a long running debate going on over at HF boards with regards to the importance of having a winning environment in the AHL. The majority believe that it is very important. A vocal minority believes that development trumps winning in the AHL. The cause of this debate? The coach Lefebvre. Most look at his record and can't beleive that he still has a job. Those that support him say: Look who has joined the Habs since Lefebvre is there. I'm of the opinion that yes, development is the primary goal of the AHL, but IMHO, a winning environment helps greatly. The best example is the Lightning. Just look at the roster of the Bolts and see the players that grew under their positive atmosphere. Their coach was at the helm of their championship season. Can anyone seriously see Lefebvre ever coach in the NHL, never mind in Montreal. Well, bring on Sid.

i'm pleased we only lost by 2. Aside from Gally no one played great and some played poorly including PK, Markov, Carey, Pleks, and the usual candidates Gilbert and Emelin.
TB's pp looked good, unlike ours. Bottom line is we ain't going anywhere with the current pp. What I don't understand is using Max on the half wall on the pp. It may not be a bad launching pad for him to let his shot go but he is not a strong playmaker and often makes the wrong play if not turns it over. And whatever happened to PK's shot? Even if other teams are on to it, we can't do any worse then we currently are. Who's coaching this group?
Speaking of coaching did anyone see the 6 on 4 when we pulled Carey while on the pp. Puck goes behind the TB net and we have two forwards on their two D. Isn't it fundamental that when you pull your goalie that you outnumber the opposition in their zone along the boards. Who's coaching this group?

I wonder what our record is against Jon Cooper when Bishop is in net. Not that he's stolen games for them, but he at least doesn't cost them the game as their goaltending might have done in the playoffs last year. But, from the 20 minutes or so I saw, we were out of synch. Tampa just plays us tight and we don't have an answer. The answer is to move the puck really quickly, which means players have to work hard to get open and then once you've made a pass, join the rush, because if they play tight, they have less room to react and catch back up with you. That, of course usually means the defense should join the rush, and we do very little of that. Our fourth line should also be better than their fourth line and we weren't getting much of that. Perhaps try sitting Malhotra the next time we play them and see if we can generate more speed and offense. I like Manny, but he's lost a step from being a really quick player. I suspect the first game back from a longish road trip was a major cause, but we have to find a way to solve Tampa. My biggest concern is not that we had a bad game because it's just after the trip, but that Cooper has figured out how to play us to negate what we do best. I'd love to beat Jon Cooper just because. That defense can be exposed, but we'd better find a way to do it. Therrien has his work cut out for him.

Right out of the gate. Tampa's a better overall team at the moment. No question. Outshot 36-22. Agreed, but why stop at the moment? Reversing it will require lots of time to reload. The Bolts have benefited from a few down seasonss. The Habs have benefited from a few deft maneuvers by Bergevin (Sekac, Weise. Malhotra, Gonchar, Gilbert, Weaver. Parenteau, Tokarski) but they need more high end players.

Frustrating to say the least ....our dump and chase style especially on PP is useless against heir big D and we refuse or can't get any net prescience with Bishop in net. I'm convinced Tampa isn't miles ahead of us but we don't have quite the complete personal or haven't played our best so far in the two games. Their D is much better and they have 2 real consistent top lines....IMO we need a touch more jam another goal scorer and a solid D man before we can consider being part of the elite. Price may take us their but this team needs a few reinforcements.

Top scoring team in the league with 2 consistent lines, plus elite guys like Stamkos and Hedman. And they just move the puck very well as a unit. They really value possession, which is something we don't do enough. I always get nervous when I hear MT make comments like we just didn't have the right "work ethic." To me it's not about work ethic, Tampa was just playing a different game last night. Smart puck management to go along with the great work ethic. We are capable of playing that way, but I fear that's not what Therrien thinks. We can be very disorganized with our breakouts and zone entries. Last night was just awful.

I think we have the depth otherwise. Price covers a lot of warts, but he won't cover them all the way to a Cup. Tampa is now enjoying the prime of their 2008 #1 overall pick, Stamkos…and their 2009 #2 overall pick, Hedman. They've built around them nicely and are well-coached by Cooper. With Bishop healthy, they could be the team to beat in the East.

I'll can give credit to MT to a point that he has got some level of buy in to the point this team is a top third top team but IMO without top shelfplayer reinforcements he will be out coached by the likes of Cooper Vigneault Babchuck etc. etc.

Yes, you have to have the tools in order to fix the problem. Then I look at our PP and I think, we have all the tools, what's going on? As far as the PP goes, it's about a system and strategy, not players. It would help if the right guys were out there most of the time, but we have good enough guys out there some times and it doesn't work then either. No, it's mostly about tactics and use of your players. He hasn't made it work yet.
