Wow, a whole week to go. I read that we play 14 games in February. An average of one every 2 days. Hope the boys rest up.

Guys, just a general question ... I put this thread together last night while watching the game and it looked good to go when I initially put it up ... however, I get to work today, bring up the thread and notice that there's only a "CH" icon at the top, yet, I go into the script and I see that I've got a Dallas Stars logo (.PGN) file I put there last night is still there ... the problem is I'm not seeing it from the computer here at work ... can anyone else see the Stars icon, or is it just my browser ... thanks ... wow - Moose Vasko - way to go Dis. Thanks mate ... I could have put up one more RC card, but I didn't think anyone would know who he was ... I put up Moose Vasko to see if any of our own veterans would recognize his name ... I can't remember seeing him play but his name would pop up every now and then when I was younger ... Cheers.

Sadly I remember the old guys. I believe Moose spent most of his career in Chicago. Don't remember him with the North Stars. BTW I'd prefer Moose to Elmer as well.

Ah, those old North Star jerseys. I remember going to a few games (and a Fleetwood Mac concert) at the Met Centre in Bloomington. Good times!

Enjoying your nostalgic GDTs, Dis! I recall little about the Habs-North Stars semi-final series of 1970-71....but I do remember ex-Hab Ted Harris as the captain....and two ex-Habs in goal...Gump Worsley and Cesare Maniago. My dad spoke highly of Maniago, as he had led the local Chatham Maroons to the Allan Cup championship a decade earlier (1959-60). Chatham beat the Trail Smoke Eaters in Trail, BC.....Maniago's birthplace. Had to look up the year of the Allan Cup ...and found some nice info on the rest of his career on the HHOF site. Maniago played a handful of games for the Leafs and Habs in the early 60s...and was bounced around until the North Stars picked him up from the Rangers in the 1967 expansion draft. Very tall for that era's goalies...6'3". A nice read, including an anecdote about his good friend and teammate, Bill Masterton...and lots of pictures here. I also see the North Stars' 1968-69 team picture in Dis's post features John Muckler as head coach…his first NHL stint…and a very brief one. Hockeydb says 35 games (6-23-6). He didn't resurface in the NHL until he joined the Oilers in 1982-83 as Sather's assistant.

I also included a few players who are deceased ... Gump Worsley was the goaltending coach for the Kingston Frontenacs during the 1990-91 season ... '91 was when we came back from Germany and I didn't even know he was here ... I have a team picture of the 1961-62 Hull-Ottawa Canadiens hanging in the recroom that shows Maniago among other notables in Habs history ... here it is here ... the player standing to the left of Jacques Laperriere (centre row) is former CJOH (Ottawa) Sportscaster, Brian Smith, who was gunned down in the parking lot of his studio in 1995 ... Note how many NHLers came out of that team ... Cheers.

Great stuff, Dis.
Bill Masterton was also on that 61-62 Hull-Ottawa team....along with Wayne Connelly...another close friend who, along with Maniago, was a North Star when that tragedy occurred.
Willie O'Ree, the first black NHLer (1957-58 Bruins), was also on the Hull-Ottawa roster.

I have the same photo in my basement ... you can also see how the Montreal system fed new players into the parent club ... here's the roster for the 1961-62 Hull-Ottawa Canadiens ... what a time ... I might do some more digging tonight and try to find something similar for one of the other Original Six fanchises ... just curious, eh ... Cheers.

Not sure how it will play out down the stretch but I think home ice will be huge if only in the first series which now would be Detroit. Don't want to jinx it but man have they been fortunate when it comes to man games lost should this good fortune continue it goes a long way towards getting to the ultimate goal.
12 of next 17 against non playoff teams time to make hay.
