Well deserved loss. Sometimes I watch this team and think, too many pussies, tonight was one of those nights.
If Eller and Emelin are on the block, it better be for some aggressive size. Emelin is probably done for a few games. Shoulder or collar bone.
We may not see PK for awhile after he takes his skate off.

Tired of seeing them throw away points against bottom feeders in the last 2-3 weeks. In the last 2 weeks against Buffalo, Arizona, Edmonton, Toronto & now Ottawa they have a grand total of 3 points. (puke)And I am also tired of seeing them get out hit. Emelin was the only one hitting and he rarely did it anymore. They just seem easily pushed around.
Sure they had 40 shots but how many high quality chances did they have? Hammond is 27 & making his 1st NHL start. If Lehner & Anderson aren't hurt he's an afterthought. Yet Montreal shooters manage just 2 goals & one of them on a lucky bounce.

This was different tonight. I think the guys were actually ready to go. Ottawa just pummelled them into submission. Didn't like seeing that.
Some guys were hearing footsteps...

Of course you hear footsteps when the refs don't call blatant infractions. How They could not call a blatant attempt to injure on gryba is beyond me. You have to have control of your stick at all times but not your elbow?

We still can't play the rough game. Haven't really had to since Toronto fizzled and we have Boston's number. But the Sens ALWAYS do it to us….and it's an extremely viable plan for taking us out in the playoffs. Rangers, anyone? And we can't rely on the refs to make the right calls. ESPECIALLY in the playoffs.

Even if we'd played Price tonight, no guarantees HE doesn't get run.
The Sens seem to be THAT kind of team.
I'm not sure we play any differently in front of Toker. Price just saves our bacon and has the opposition perhaps thinking more than they would against Tokarski.

Therrien says, "That's not the type of hockey we want to play at this time of year. We didn't manage the puck well….and the coverage wasn't good enough. We left Tokarski on his own too many times."
Wake up, MT! There's a reason Price is Hart-worthy. He's bailed out your butt innumerable times.
Just heard that Tinordi will play against the Panthers tomorrow.

Well he isn't going to say the team got tired of taking hits to make plays, but he got the gist of it.

Let's hope Jared plays a solid, responsible game and earns some respect from Therrien.

Let's hope Jared plays a solid, responsible game and earns some respect from Therrien. I hope so... the future of our D are now with the team. Beau,Tinordi & Pateryn. Hopefully they can all push weaver, emelin and gilbert to the sidelines.

Tinordi needs to gain his confidence at this level, and MT just seems to be able to whisk it away just when he is on the cusp.

Seems so. Beaulieu had the same problem until Gonchar came along. Too bad Sergei's hurt, it would have been a decent pairing.

I know is seems bad to be so frustrated by a team in first place; however, these games against the non-contending team are a bit worrisome.
Our defensive depth is also about to be tested as Emelin's shoulder did not look good and quite honestly, Subban was nowhere near 100% after he came back from taking that shot off the ankle. If he is anywhere near questionable you really need to rest him for the stretch and the playoffs...but will they?

Chris Nilan is beside himself with our lack of response to being targeted/pushed around.
That's the best way to beat us….BEAT us. We can't play that game. Not how we've been built.
Tinordi should help…but we need somebody else up front besides Prust.

If I'm the coach, I specifically target some people on Ottawa. First I get someone like Eller to finish absolutely every check on Pageau. Forget the puck. Play your position until he gets the puck, passes it, hit him. Over and over. He has to hear footsteps. Secondly, you have to dress someone like Connor Crisp to do much the same thing to Gryba. Don't start the fight, but taunt him. Ask him to try and hit Eller again. He'll get the message. Preferably, he'll take up the challenge. I think those two things are what you need to beat Ottawa, that and preventing Karlsson from getting passes. Let the other guys try and beat you. If they don't have the easy option to give Karlsson the puck, it will throw them.
I agree with Nilan. We lost that game when Gryba went after Eller again. Same as in the playoffs. For a game or two against Ottawa, one might have to treat it differently than we do other games. Without the intimidation factor, we can probably still beat them, even with Crisp or Nevins dressed.

Tweets from Eric Engels saying Emelin won't require surgery, but could be out up to six weeks. Gonchar placed on IR to allow Habs to get to roster max of 23 with both Pateryn and Tinordi called up. Nothing on PK that I can see yet.

Pacioretty got hit from behind last night, too….with no response. We lose Max or Subban or Price….and we're done. Have we learned nothing from Kreider? Apparently not…as Price has been run many times this year. Our PP is also back to sucking Sahara.

Hate seeing players get hurt, but this is HUGE for Tinordi since Emelin is the guy that is blocking his path, IMO, and he would slot perfectly in Emelin's spot either next to Gilbert or Weaver/Pateryn on the 3rd pair. He needs to perform and for management to believe in him.

He was back in the Dogs' lineup within a week of the fight if I recall correctly.
