I did a google translate... so hopefully I understood it correctly. She says Patches reminds her of Jean... Quite the endorsement Patches for CaptainI think Patches will get the C... and PK will wear the A along with Pleky and Markov.

Max has definitely asserted himself this year. Captain Max!

I agree. Max has upped his overall game this year. Sounds like he is a good leader and giving flowers to Mrs Beliveau on Valentines Day was really thoughtful. I think it is only imminent that he gets the C. The two A's are going to be to Subban and Markov. I don't see Pleks staying past next year after his contract is up.

As much as I wanted to see the "C" on PK, Max has been shouldering much of the offensive load for this team all year ... I think the captaincy would be a fitting reward for that ... I'm not saying PK doesn't deserve it, but Max deserves it a little more me thinks ... hope they find a way to keep Plekanec in the lineup ... a veteran Hab is something we haven't had too much of in the lineup over the years ... besides, unless there's a centre ready to step in, I'd hope they'd find a place for Pleks in the team's future, a la Markov ... Cheers.

I lean more towards PK....He and Price are the face of the Habs, especially if he wins another Norris this year.

PK isn't getting much thought for the Norris (Giodarno, Weber, Doughty are the 3 I hear most), but people are saying he is better than when he won it the first time. Plus if Babcock is still coach of team Canada, he might not even be playing because of his 3 righties/lefties philosophy. Doughty, Weber, Pietrangelo all play the same side as PK.

Cheers. I agree with you, Dis. It would be nice to keep Plekanec on board once his contract is up, eventually sliding him down to the 3rd line C spot. He's got tons of smarts and is just such a pro. As for Max, I have to admit that he frustrated me early in the year. He came across as a real floater, but I think I understand his game a little better now. I think he spends a lot of his time looking for the sweet spots on the ice, and that's why he doesn't always seem very present. He sure is excellent at finding that open ice, though. And his defensive game, especially on the PK, has come along tremendously. So based on play, he may just deserve it. Based on personality, I think he is maybe the most deserving of the Captaincy since Muller. If his on-ice effort was more evident, he would be a no brainer.

No way Gio wins it this year, though he's deserving of consideration. He's gone for the year with a torn bicep tendon. Gio, Brodie, and Wideman are all having fine seasons in Calgary. I don't think Doughty's done anything special this year and Pietrangelo has had a bad year by the standards of many. PK's tied for second in scoring, despite a team with a woeful power play and one true goal scoring threat. Of the top ten in scoring, his +/- is the best. His shooting percentage is the best, which is an indication he should probably be shooting more. He and Josi are tied for most GWG at 4. If he had the points on the PP that Karlsson and Letang do, he be miles ahead. To discount him from serious consideration at this point in the season is to ignore him. PK's season is worthy of it when simply stacked up against his rivals. espn.go.com/nhl/statistics/player/_/stat/points/sort/points/position/defensemen

blny, I don't disagree at all with your assessment, but before Gio got hurt, many people were picking him. I pulled this from Elliot Friedmans column:
One Eastern Conference executive: “P.K. Subban is so much better a defenceman now than when he won the Norris Trophy. It’s not even close.”
In fact, he (and others) believe Subban isn’t getting enough consideration for this year’s award.
I just have a feeling it won't be him. In fact Josi or Letang might replace Gio on the voting list

Had he been able to play the full season, he would have warranted serious consideration. Hudler and those three defenders are really 'driving the bus' in Calgary. Gio leads the way for them for sure.

How did a thread that started out discussing Mme. Beliveau endorsing Max for captain end up talking about PK for the Norris. Did she endorse Subban for that as well?

I mean, look at what both bring to the table and it's not exactly a slam dunk here ... and just for squats and giggles, look at what Plekanec brings to the table ... they'd probably like a younger captain with more time left in the organization but when you take into consideration what Plekanec has done for le club over the years, he can't be dismissed either ... honestly, I'd like to canvass the players after the season is over to see who they'd like to be captain ... that would be interesting ... Dis, that would be nice but I heard somewhere that players (not just in Montreal) no longer vote on it. It's management/coaches that decide now for teams.

and I don't think PK gets the respect of the Refs, which I believe a Captain must have when representing a team. Quite frankly, some of those guys don't deserve respect themselves. It's hard to pick out if it's just them trying to follow what they've been instructed to do (game mismanagement) or just that they're not very good. I suspect the former as it's just another factor thrown into the mix that they have to take into account in making decisions, not simply if it was a penalty or not. Course, that doesn't help out PK. Both he and Patches would make good captains, as would Markov and Pleks in their own way.

Further to the above, I was reminded by the many things in my life that need to be kept track of...such as birthdays of siblings and parents, anniversaries, key dates and themes, etc. and most of this is handled by my wife, who is thoughtful, caring and always on the ball. Perhaps we're giving Max himself a bit too much credit and not enough credit to the Pacioretty family? Just a thought.

PK has so many hurdles to jump many no one still wants to mention and others placed on him by this teams system and coach .....through all this and admittedly a rough start to his season he is having his best year IMO.Imagine this team with a PP and not all the shackles placed on him??...yet despite this he is on pace for 60pts on a very structured and offensively challenged team.Pretty damn god numbers, is he Norris worthy he should be in the conversation if not in the top 3. PK IMO should be captain but I have no problem with Patches ...he has matured it seems a ton.
Best thing for us as fans the character on this team is deep and that is half the battle,if you want the team to win.

If he was a bit older with a few more years experience under his belt, we would probably be talking about DLR as potential captain also. Imo he plays the way you would want your captain to play.

It's bad enough that we can't have a coach unless he speaks French. Now we're letting the widow of a player who played over 40 years ago pick our captain. I love #4 and his widow but come on folks. Are her views even relevant?
Moreover, Max ain't getting no 'C' until/unless he extends his contract.
For what happens on the ice i'd go with PK hands down. He shows up every game. He may have the odd brain cramp but he never takes a shift off. Max, not so much. It may be however that the players respect/like Max. I get the impression that while the find PK amusing, they aren't going to go to the wall for him. Not sure they'd go to the wall for Max either.
I'd love to give it to BGal but I'm sort of worn out with diminutive captains. too easy for the opposition to go after.

Are her views even relevant? It's just sentiment speaking….and I doubt it will go further. Perhaps Big Jean mentioned to Elise how much he admired Pacioretty….who knows? I think it's about time we saw some of that respect for greatness/legacy on the Montreal Canadiens. I'd like to know who Henri Richard, Yvan Cournoyer, and Guy Carbonneau think should be the captain. These guys know character….and know what it takes. The way Max came back from that brutal attack by Chara….and a couple of other injuries….still playing at the top of his game….that says a lot to me. I'd have no problem with Pacioretty wearing the "C". He's soft-spoken, humble, and does his talking on the ice. The good thing is….it finally feels as if we have a whole team, from the owner and GM down, working not just for the money...but for the glory of the CH. It's been a long time since I've felt that. As much as I criticize Therrien, I think he's truly on-board with that mindset. We may fall short this year, but it won't be for lack of effort. But...I could be wrong…..

For the life of me I can't find the article now, but I seem to remember reading one recently that basically said Plekanec likes to keep to himself, doesn't really interact with his teammates all that much, and is "all business". Not saying that's a bad thing, but the impression I got from the article was that he didn't have much of a personal relationship with any of his teammates, and he was quite okay with that. I don't know if that makes a difference or not. I'd be okay with either Pacioretty or Subban as captains. Pacioretty would be more of an "old school" captain, in particular when it comes to dealing with the refs and fans. More understated, quieter, "classier", that sort of thing. Subban would obviously be more "in your face", more in tune with the new generation of social media and flashy personas. Not necessarily a bad choice either, but a different one.

Patches would be a very good choice, echoing the "old school" comments made by others. He seems very classy and professional in all his media dealings, and he is a key contributor on the ice. PK makes a perfect wing man, with a widely contrasting style, but who also is a very popular player with the fans and media. The young veterans are all earning their stripes as the leadership definitely moves to the younger core. At the end of the day, this really is Carey's team despite the fact that he will never wear the "C".
Sure nice to have media stories like this instead of the "Late-gate" and "Coach Killer" stuff that is plaguing that other original six team from Canada. But that is stuff of another thread!!
