Has a goalie ever led the league in save percentage, wins, shutouts and goals against average before? If has guess be Hasek when he was with the Sabres. Don't know about Hasek, but off the top of my head I would guess Terry Sawchuk would have in 1951-52 if they kept save % as a stat. He led the league in everything they tracked, outpacing Al Rollins (Toronto) in GAA by a margin of 1.90 to 2.22, posting 44 wins vs. Gerry McNeil's second best of 34 (Habs) and bettering Jim Henry (Boston) in shutouts by a count of 12 to 7. What's also impressive is that Sawchuk played every minute of every game (70 games) for the Red Wings that year. To top all that off, Sawchuk went 8-0 in the playoffs as the Wings won the cup that year. In the semi-finals against the Leafs he gave up 0 goals, 0 goals, 2 goals and 1 goal. Against the Habs in the finals he gave up 1 goal, 1 goal, 0 goals and 0 goals. His GAA in the playoffs was a pretty decent 0.625. I haven't done any extensive checking but I think you would be hard pressed to find a goalie who had a better year than Sawchuk that year. Edit: Just took a look at Hasek's stats. He never led the league in save %, wins, shutouts and GAA in any one year. His best season arguably might have been 1993-94 when his line was 30 wins, .930 save %, 7 shut outs and 1.95 GAA. All but the wins total were tops in the league that year. The second year he won the Hart trophy his line was 33 wins, .932 save %, 13 shut outs and a 2.09 GAA. His GAA was only 4th best that year. Second Edit: Before you ask, neither Brodeur nor Roy came close to topping the league in all four categories.

Weekes and Friedemann, the two brains in the whole bunch. How did Friedemann survive? He didn't openly back PK on air? I switched to NCAA basketball during the breaks. Didn't see the session.

People blame Therrien, but from the 24CH clips he seems to be preaching the opposite, so it's hard to say. I'm not saying that he's preaching a run-and-gun team, but I don't think he's shackled them as much as others do. It's almost like once the team gets a one or two goal lead they know Price is going to shut them down, and they don't want to be "that guy" who makes such a grievous defensive mistake that not even Carey can bail them out *cough Max Pacioretty cough*. So they all sit back "in the system". I'd be careful using 24CH as a reference. While perhaps it's not choreographed, it's most certainly controlled, so what you see is not necessarily what you get. I mean that in a general sense. I think the word to consider with Therrien is 'cautious'. He's proved he prefers veterans over rookies or newish players, and his systems all appear slanted toward 'cautious'. If you're not a key player and you take chances, it won't be for long. In a cautious environment, it's logical that offense will suffer. It also promotes a culture that may have affected the PP as well. That approach may work in the long run, or not. Defense wins championships, but it's impossible to win without scoring, so we'll have to see which is more powerful, the irresistible force or immovable object.

I did a quick search ... no one that I can see, but admittedly it was just a quick search. I would think it was done in the pre-expansion era, but they didnt track save percentage back then. Sawchuck led the league in wins, GAA and SOs in 51-52 Plante led the league in wins, GAA and SOs in 57-58 and 58-59 Dryden led the league in wins, GAA and SOs in 72-73 and 75-76 (save percentage wasn't kept then either) Parent led the league in wins , GAA and SOs in 73-74 and 74-75 (save percentage wasnt kept then either) Belfour led the league in wins, save percentage and SOs in 90-91 Roy led the league in GAA, save percentage and SOs in 91-92 Hasek led the league in GAA, save percentage and SOs in 93-94 and 94-95 These are the closest I could find

Great game, but as always, a little too Price dependent. I really want to see this team take the next step and actually win without depending on goalie heroics. For once, I want to see Price so bored, he skates to the bench and trades his goalie stick for a scoring one....just to join the rush ad do something. I'm having such a hard time getting a read on this team this year. At times, they can turn it on and dominate - dominate - a team on the forecheck. We've seen them mount comeback after comeback, so we know they can turn on the jets, if only occasionally. And yet why not do it full-time? People blame Therrien, but from the 24CH clips he seems to be preaching the opposite, so it's hard to say. I'm not saying that he's preaching a run-and-gun team, but I don't think he's shackled them as much as others do. It's almost like once the team gets a one or two goal lead they know Price is going to shut them down, and they don't want to be "that guy" who makes such a grievous defensive mistake that not even Carey can bail them out *cough Max Pacioretty cough*. So they all sit back "in the system". I sometimes think that once the playoffs roll around the machine is going to be unleashed and they are going to pull an LA Kings and become this dominant offensive team. The power-play is going to click (they've been rope-a-doping!), the brakes are going to be released, and we're going to start steamrolling teams 5-1. Other times I think there just isn't enough offensive talent on the team, no matter how much we try to kid ourselves, and what we see is what we are going to get. Occam's razor and all that. Other times I wonder why I'm drinking Coors light. I mean seriously, Coors light? Canoes and romantic escapades therein. I get that it's a light beer, less calories and what have you, and sure, it bothers me to be known as "that fat hairy girl with the moderately-sized boobs", especially since I'm not, you know, a girl, but still, shouldn't a beer have some taste? What price must I pay not to need a bro? (Seinfeld? Anyone? Anyone?) Where was I going with that? Oh yeah, Price and the brilliant coaching strategy that is Therrien's plan to revamp the entire look and feel of the team system once the playoffs start, thus negating any advanced scouting any opponent has on us. Won't that be fun? Be carefull with your consumption of Coors Lite. Back in the day when they told me that I may be called upon to repopulate the planet, they warned me to avoid Coors Lite. Apparently it affects sperm count and limps the delivery system.

After losing in the conference finals last season Id say that their primary motivation is going further and staying healthy. That doesn't always please the masses during the nearly meaningless 82 game pre-season. They're healthy and playing at 80% clip for most of the year. I for one like that they cruise from time to time. No need to empty the tank in the pre-season when the real dance doesn't start until mid April.
Health is important, especially Carey, I believe that he should be untouchable during the playoffs and from here on. Any bump should have an immediate retaliation and any jostle a cross check to the head. Suspensions be damned I say.
