Great goaltending at one end, not so much at the other. Sucks to be on the other end of that.
I really dislike watching teams taking runs at us. We're still pretty soft. Not a whole lot of push back. Not mean enough. Good to see NB and Pateryn try to do it though.
The jets play like they have no coach. Not much structure. They can create some havoc and mayhem though. Fun team to watch. They were fortunate tonight though.

At first I wasn't convinced it was necessary, but now I am. I hate lose a game in which my team badly outshoots the other. However, it wasn't just the goaltending. The Habs were boounced around quite a bit. If the Habs are to get physical they'l need more and better than DSP.

What we need is simply for the Jets to face the Kings and then clean up the residue afterward. You want grit but speed is the most important factor to me. We're not fast enough yet.

Jets are a goon show. Hits from behind, cross checks, and gloves in the face and punches after every whistle. Thought we were playing the Bruins for a minute. But they are not a very good team. We dominated the first two periods and the goalies were the difference . Pvaelic played great Toker did not.
Chuck is starting to worry me. Lots of flash and dance but no production. DSP continues to worry me. If he can't assist us in a game like this where we are much smaller than the opponent, and it is a physical game. DSP should be there to help if not excel. But nothing. Sure ain't expecting any scoring from cement hands.
Beau should not have fought Slater. Don;t need a top D fighting a 4th liner. Should have told Slater that he didn't want slater but wanted his chicken shiit captain.
Not happy with the reffing The hits from behind and late as well as the post whistle scrums were like hockey in the 70s. I guess Jets have to do that with the minimal talent they have and their size. But refs have to reign that crap in.

I think we're complaining about the crap the Jets pulled because we have no answer for it. They were trying to beat us 'in the alley', because they can't beat us on the ice in a levelly played game. Can't blame them for that. If Price plays, we probably win that game, as Pavelec's hands and pads would tighten and he wouldn't be as good. At least half if not most of the JEts goals would never have gone in. We need to get bigger still and as CH mentioned in the GDT, having DD and PaP, on your #1 line just doesn't cut it for a contender. That's far below the level of talent the true contenders have on their #1 lines. Our only immediate solution is to put Galchenyuk at centre, but since he so uncomfortable playing there ( ) that isn't going to happen and doesn't solve the overall size issue. Longer term solutions are McCarron and Scherbak, but that will take time. If only Connor Crisp would take a leap ahead in development.

And DSP - I thought the idea of this trade was to make the Habs a grittier team & chip in with the odd goal. I can live without the points but he's not bringing in any physical play at all. I'm sure Bergevin did not get what he was expecting either because if he just wanted a 4th line minute filler he could have gone to Hamilton for that. The guy could score at the junior & AHL level but there is absolutely no sign of that yet. Also just saw the summary. I know +/- has its flaws but Petry & EDmelin were each a minus 4.

We need a better backup for next season. Can you imagine the Habs being in the same position as the Rangers - no Lundqvist for over a month - & still being in first place? Talbot has carried NY but if the Habs had to rely on Tokarski for extended periods of time they would be screwed. 5 goals on 22 shots - c'mon man. I know guys can have bad games but his play has been below average. Where Price looks confident & in control, Tokarski looks almost chaotic. The puck might hit him or a D man blocks the shot. He seems to rely too much on luck to keep the puck out.

He seems to rely too much on luck to keep the puck out. It would probably be good for this team. They'd raise their game a bit. Toker has a .910 save percentage, reasonable for a backup. Especially considering he gets thrown to the wolves most of the time, playing the second of back to backs, and 4th in 6. Its just a big contrast to Carey. Most of the time he isn't the main problem, but last night he stunk.

Toker's had a $hit year. The worst of it is that his 2 year deal was set up so that this year was a two-way and next year is one-way. I'd hoped for more this year.

Tokarski and lack of finish once again. That first goal by Byfuglien should have been stopped. He had a clear look at it and had the angle. Granted it was a hard shot, but an NHL goalie needs to stop that. Momentum killer, I knew we were done then and there with the way things were going on the other end. How many times did they have Pavelec down and out only to shoot it right into his pad out glove? Hated the taunts at the end by the fans. I guess we know how other fanbases feel, lol.

Habs should call-up Condon for a couple of games. He's had a great season, could be another Hammond in case of playoff injury to Price. Rest Price for playoffs and see what we have in Condon.

I agree with the chorus; Tokarski looked bad. Pucks just went through him too often, and he gave up some juicy rebounds. Oh well.
More disconcerting to me though was the play of Petry. I thought he was terrible, and with him playing so bad he couldn't prop up Emelin. I hope it was just a bad game, and not a sign of how Petry plays when the going gets tough, because I thought he was a mess last night. It was clear that the Jets game plan was to run the defense, and it seemed to work.
Count me in on the Galchenyuk concern too; we've been saying that he hasn't been producing because he's not playing with good offensive players, but Plekanec and Gallagher are the best we can give him, aside from Pacioretty. And nada. 3 points in his last 15 games (though the observant amongst you will notice that 16 games ago he had a 3 point night). Be real nice if he gets hot during the playoffs.
Still, can't really complain that much. I didn't think Pavelec was THAT good, but he made some good saves, and he made the other saves that he had to make. We were the better team, and got Priced. What can you do?

The Montreal No-Margin-For-Error Canadiens.
75-game sample…pretty good indicator.
GF/G - 2.55 (23rd overall) GA/G - 2.19 (1st overall) (Price's GAA is 1.88)
Not too difficult to see that Price is doing it all.
We are who we are, it seems…the coaching staff has tried variations on the Top 6….nobody seems to have the goal scoring solution. Shut down Max and we're pretty much done. Easy strategy in the playoffs. Our PP has disappeared, as well. Having DD and PAP currently on the #1 line isn't going to do it, either. Bergevin didn't provide any goal-infusion at the deadline….so here we are.
Unless some line juggling results in some chemistry….and our PP catches fire…stay tuned for more of The Price Has To Be Right.

I actually thought they played a pretty decent game. Except for a couple gaffs in our own end, they pressured the Jets and had plenty of scoring opportunities.
I do agree, this team has no response to physical teams. Someone should have gone right after Ladd after that hit - IMMEDIATELY. Kudos to NB for showing some response.
Toker was not on his game, looked like he was battling the puck all night. Winnipeg has big forwards who were screening him.
The PP - PLEASE change it up. MT keeps putting out the same two lines (1 & 2). Why does the PP have to be line # 1 or line # 2.
Why can't he mix up the forwards, i.e. Patches, with Pleks and Galch or Gallagher with Weise and De La Rose. Need some net presence.
Twice Petry was waiting for someone to screen Pavelec and Galch just stood to the side of the crease. Change up the D pairings on the PP as well. Subban and Markov are too predictable.

I'm still quite bothered by last night's game. I don't know why this game in particular, maybe it's the final straw, I don't know.
In the end, I think the negatives outweigh the positives, by enough of a margin that it will spell trouble for us early in the playoffs (games are going to be on this level of physicality, or more). My gripes (and I know they're not original or new problems): - Petry gets run out of the building and zero response except from another top 4 defenseman. And then he has to fight a fourth liner. Are you kidding me? The team, as a collective, didn't rise up and increase their physical play in response. - our D spent most of the night being afraid to get hit, rushing their passes. Just ugly. - lots of shots but still only managed two goals on this joke of a team. - same old power play, which could have turned the game around. - our backup situation is far from ideal. Toker doesn't have what it takes. At least this year. Price would have made this close, but cmon, two goals for against the Jets is brutal. No finish. The Jets are bullies. That's about all they are, but they proved last night the Habs can't handle it when the going gets tough. Far from it, in fact. Wait until it's Tampa or the NYR in a playoff series.

As BC pointed out….we're 12th in home PP at 20.6% (so there IS some hope for a few playoff games)….but a bottom-scraping 29th on the road at 10.5%. I find that stat really puzzling. I can understand winning more games at home than on the road. You get last change, so the ooach can manage matchups better at home than away. But outside of the fans, what's different about the PP home and away? There's no matchup issue, so why is it so different. Half as effective!? I don't get it.
Need some net presence.Yes, yes, yes. My inclination would be to try DLR out there. Good hands, strong and not afraid to block the goalie's view. He hasn't shown a consistent finishing touch, but given the success of everyone else on the PP, why not? That's the sort of thinking, or rather decision making that the coaching staff don't do that bugs the heck out of me. Their PP strategy is that eventually it will work itself out. Two years in is obviously not long enough for that to take place. Over and over again, we see that it is possible to beat 'hot' goalies when we screen them. It's so frustrating as a fan when something seems so obvious, yet there are no adjustments on the ice. Are the players simply not responding? Put someone else on who will respond. Try something different.

Why not try DSP on the PP and tell him job is to get in the goalie's grill at every opportunity.
Gotta find some way for him to contribute….because, to date, we've seen little of what was advertised.

The mystery that is Alex Galchenyuk
Let me shed some light. Cause I've been doing some observing of my own.
From Dec 6- to Jan 10, a span of 13 games, Galchenyuk centered a line with Max Pacioretty and Brendan Gallagher. In these 13 games, he got 9 points. For some reason, the next game he was then juggled between the third line centering Bournival and Sekac, and the fourth line centering Prust and Parenteau. He still managed to get a point in this game. The next game he was then put back to the wing, on a line with Parenteau and Desharnais.
Then the next seven games, he was on a line with Gallagher and Deshanais was the Center. In these seven games he got 6 points.
After this seven game stretch, Pacioretty was reunited with DD. And we hear, Galchenyuk and Therrien had a meeting.
Yet, this was a 22 game stretch with numerous linemates where he got 16 points
My questions would be ... The Center experiment was working. Why break it up? Putting him on a line with Desharnais, ie splitting DD-Pacioretty up was working. Why reunite them?

In the 23 games since the above sequence , he has 8 points and as BC pointed out, 3 of those were in one game. 5 points in the other 22 games. So is he really "comfortable" in his current role?

Or maybe he's just going through growing pains and being on a 2nd line winger role means he doesn't have too much pressure and can just get out of his funk on his own...
