Blah. Basically, Eller takes 60 games to get going, then when the end of the season rolls around he seems to get out of his funk and we overrate him. If we get solid play for the playoffs out of him, he's worth keeping, but he can't ever become a middling playoff guy - he's already a middling regular season guy. He'd definitely be on my "available" list of assets in any case.

I'll put up with Eller not playing great during the regular season if he puts it together in the playoffs. If Larry could elevate his game in the playoffs consistently, year after year, like Bob Nystrom, I would be thrilled. My bigger concern is guys who disappear in the playoffs when the going gets rough.

On the other hand, the guy who's placed in our #1 centre position kept losing one battle after another and was basically invisible. I wouldn't be surprised to find Eller has outscored or matched DD since the trade deadline despite almost no PP time and despite being put in a defensive centre role with most starts in our end. Desharnais may be our most protected player, and isn't producing accordingly. It really shows up against a team like Tampa with speed and size. Yes, I have my issues with Eller, because he can be better, but DD has been on a downward trend for 2 years now and keeps getting prime PP time and most of the time on the top line. It's not the best use of our talent. I thought Carey had a pretty good game last night. He wasn't lights out, but he was pretty good. 5-3 loss.

The issue I have with DD is that he doesn't shoot enough. He is at the top of the team (disregarding Andrghetto) in shooting percentage. Click on this link to see the shooting percentages. I also think DD shot more when he was on the wing.

Well, in last night's game, against a tough opponent, he showed up big time. He showed up, but didn't play that well. I thought at least one of the goals was on him (when he misread that Pateryn was going for a hit and still went for the same guy, leading to a 2 on 1)

I thought, on balance, he was the best forward and considering how badly the defense played, may have been the best skater on our team. Difference of opinion, obviously.
