Question to our members in the Ottawa area: Has anyone in the local media used the term "SENderella" yet? TSN already is...

....and boy do I want to see PK out-play Karlsson and end the "he should win the Norris" debate. Won't happen. Karlsson is flashier offensively, but PK is better on the PK and as a 2-way player, which isn't what fans notice, moreso opposing fans. They'll see PK's offense but won't see his 30 minutes a night playing soundly (other than the occasionnal showboating) on actual defense. Karlsson isn't really a d-man but is a rover playing the blue line. but as you say, flashier. we'll hear about all of Karlsson's +30 minute games . . . I wonder if we'll hear about PK's?

Habs in 5. Petry, Weiss, Gallagher our series unsung heroes. They need to get the puck up on Hammond. The first game will be important for.them to get on him early and finally break the confidence.

I'm really torn on this. I've seen teams go on a roll and then just stop abruptly (the 2010 Habs losing to Philly after beating better teams in PItts and Washington) and seen teams let emotion and adrenaline take over for a stretch and look like world beaters, only to end up with weak muscles and a quick exit once the momentum and luck wore off. That's where I think the Sens are right now. Where I have difficulty is that I don't trust in our ability to adapt, to strategically and tactically put pressure on the Sens weak points. I firmly believe we have more overall talent and certainly more depth. Our bottom 6 should overcome their bottom 6. But I still don't feel good about it. Cameron is not an elite coach, though, so I'll have to assume a saw-off there and go with the Habs in 6.

That's where I think the Sens are right now. that's where I thought the Sens would be, and that they'd finally lose and then sag. the beating by the Rags didn't do it, though . . . it was "it's only 1 and we ere bound to lose eventually", and they picked right up. gotta come out strong and bet 'em good twice at home or they'll continue to believe in themselves. are you referring to coaching (Lent is over!)? the guy has fooled me all season and I hope he does again. c'mon, MT, a little tweak to give us faith that you actually have a coaching clue.

wow . . . even some Habs fans here are starting to drink the Sens koolaid. "we'll be lucky to get out of the series" was the thought.
really? the story has been a hot goaltender and a hot line. so you key on them (and Pageau) and then what happens?
oh, and if I were to give the Norris to any d-man on the Sens it would be Methot. the Sens were nothing; he came back and Karlsson got going. take Methot out (no, I don't necessarily mean in that way) and the d fall apart, imo.

Reasons to be concerned include the fact that he Sens have been one of the hottest teams in the league over the past 4-6 weeks and are getting the kind of balanced scoring we have wanted to see all year. I'm not sure Hammond is more than Steve Penney part deux but for now he needs to be respected.
The matchup is representative of how competitive the Eastern conference is. Boston missed the playoffs with 96 points and I'm still trying to find an instance of when that has happened in the East...... ever.
So a Sens win would not be a huge upset but I'm still expecting the Habs to gut this one out. They had the weight of expectations 2 years ago against these guys and couldn't get the job done. And I would argue that the pressure last year was on Tampa and Boston in those series and the Habs were able to sneak under the radar. Now they need to prove that they are worthy of the seed, they have all sorts of motivation to beat the Sens, but they need to go out and put 4 wins together. For now I'm assuming Pacioretty will be OK but even with that they need guys to step up and provide the extra production we need - Galchenyuk and Eller in particular. And we need Price to be excellent. Not just very good, but excellent. That means .93 - .94 save percentage, and around 2 goals per game.
This is a real "show me" series for the Habs. Show me you can win when the pressure is on you. Show me you can beat one of the hotter teams in the league that beat you 2 years ago. Show me, Lars Eller and Alex Galchenyuk, that you can step up in prime time, and show me Carey Price that you can play lights out when that's exactly what we need from you to win a series. Price really hasn't had a legacy type playoff win where he was as good as we needed him to be. Now is the time. Ottawa is coming in all cocky and confident and Price needs to set the tone and deliver.
Habs in 6.

Sense are to the Habs like we are to the Bruins. I hate how they intimidate the boys hope I'm wrong but think they are one of those teams who just have our number Sens in 6 obviously hoping thing change....would love to hand it to them but without knowing Patches status tough to believe things I'll change.

Karlsson has had an excellent year ... he's a good captain in Ottawa and he should be a nominee for the Norris ... still he's not as all-around a d-man as Subban, though ... he's a bit more of a wild canon than Karlsson but he plays a much more complete game ... it would be fitting if he, too, were a nominee ... Cheers.

I guess it all depends on how much value a soul has. Because clearly Hammond sold his. The question is; did he sell it for a playoff spot, or the Cup? How good a negotiator is that guy with the funny horns and the long tail? We should win this. We are the better team, especially after you get past the top six and top two. But that doesn't always matter, right? We've been on the other side of the "better team" match up a lot in the last couple of decades, and pulled off more than our fair share of upsets. So if anything we should be wary of the Universe balancing itself out. And of course we're watching a Disney movie pretty much write itself, so there is that too. Never bet against Disney they say (or they should anyways). I'm a lot more worried about this series than I should be. Obviously the key will be Hammond. The longer the series goes without Hammond's bubble bursting the greater the Sens confidence will be. If we can rattle him a little bit it will rattle the whole team. Fearless prediction: Habs in six. The series will start off tight, especially the first couple of games. I predict Game 1 will be a nail-biter, with the Sens taking it, perhaps in ovetime. Games 2 and 3 will see the momentum change, with the Habs taking a close Game 2, and starting to steamroll by Game 3. Hammond doesn't make it out of Game 4, and Anderson starts Game 5, which he wins, but not convincingly so. We crush them in Game 6, with three powerplay goals. So there. Might as well jump to the second round, because we're pretty much done with this one already.

Sens have restricted ticket sales to the national capital region. Habs fans in the area have to buy tickets and boo Karlsson mercilessly.

How good a negotiator is that guy with the funny horns and the long tail? a better question how specific the contract reads . . . and how fine was the fine print? the guy with the horns has only lost out twice, as far as I am aware: Easter (sorry, just a perspective thing) and in the movie Crossroads (not that one, the other one, the one with the Karate Kid). yup, will Hammond be our Halak realistic, but wow . . . not a great series for home teams though, is it? Habs lose 2 of 3 at home; Sens lose all their home games. 'salright though, as long as we come out on the winning side. my biggest complaint about the trade deadline: that MB didn't ask Murray about Pageau. Gryba? bah, Eller is wise to him. Stone? hit him, hit Turris . . . especially Turris, he'll shy away from the puck and won't have it to pass. but Pageau . . . he just seems to find away. hmmm . . . just reread my analysis. the way to stop the Sens is to hit. which means Pleky has to leave his skirt behind and the others have to get physical (sue the ON-J video) as well. be nice to have Max back, but I think the Habs can do it without him if they don't rope-a-dope until the third period. my hope is that this was a tactic for the regular season and that MT is going to release the hounds in the post season. oh, what am I thinking . . . this is MT!

I noticed that as well, Franko. Methot gives Karlsson the wiggle room to attack at his leisure, so you're absolutely right. I'm not sure how you key on the defensive guy in a pairing, though. I don't think it's right to injure any player deliberately, so unless we're lucky and Methot gets hurt by accident, what does one do? Pageau, I think you can slow down with getting in his way. Don't let him build up speed. With Stone, the one weakness that caused him to fall so far in the draft was his skating. He's improved in that area, but of all his skills, its probably the weakest. The way to counter him is to amp up the game one more gear. And that's actually what we need to do regardless. We got faster after the trade deadline. Petry's our best skating dman, Mitchell can fly much faster than Malhotra, and Beaulieu is now playing regularly and Pateryn is throwing his weight around and is fleeter of foot. The last time we played Ottawa was shortly after the trade deadline and the newcomers had not fitted in at all at that point. Our bottom six right now are hugely superior to our bottom six back then. Put it in gear and full speed ahead. Let them try and keep up, especially their bottom 4 D.

I wonder if the Yankees do that to Mets fans, or the Cubs to fans living in the south of Chicago. Totally stupid and childish.

These pesky Senators won't be a pushover, but I can only hazard a guess they'll "solve" Carey once. Therefore Montreal in 5 games. Total goals Montreal 13 Senators 9

I've known pretty well with all the experience I have very slim chance we have. All the bounces will have to go our way, and that don't often happen like that. Since the deadline I've pretty well known. Can't score enough and don't play well against big physical teams. If we could have got Pitt or Detriot in first round liked our chances much better. Mainly because we have advantage in goalies, but against the Hambuglar we don't even have the that.

I'm looking at Gally in front of the net, Eller not being afraid of Gryba, and Galchy coming to life. 6 games. Habs move on. funny aside: was listening to a Sens talking head today talking about how the Habs d doesn't hit. the Habs d doesn't hit?? OK, I fully admit to being a homer-away-from-home, but do we not have Emelin? PK? even Markov picks his plays and plays the body. the way they talk here the Habs are the underdogs and will be lucky to win a game. oh, I hope we lay a beating on them tonight. and that BC is wrong wrong wrong with his Habs lose the first game prediction.

We could improve that facet by dressing Pateryn. In a way, I wouldn't mind if Gilbert suffered a minor injury and had to sit out a couple of games. I like Pateryn's game and he and Beaulieu have fitted well together. Pateryn doesn't join the rush as well as Gilbert, but that's Beaulieu's job anyway. Pateryn would have some Sens keeping their heads up, for sure.
