Glad to see this thread started. Keep 'em coming Dis!!! I started puttering around with this thread right after DSP scored ... had to catch my breath when Stamkos scored but other than that I was pretty sure we were going to need it ... the guys just wanted it big time tonight ... Cheers.

Calgary flamed out tonight! Being the sole Canadian team in the playoffs never seems to get tiresome. Although the Haters must be cringing, again!
Let's keep 'er going, again!

Ref having a little chat with Bishop about how he seems to go down fairly easily (30 second mark or so)

I will give Therrien and his staff credit. The Habs have carried the majority of even-strength play in this series, which is a complete reversal from what we saw in the regular season. We have kept Tampa's shot totals in the 20s, which was one of my keys for success. The Bolts averaged over 35 shots a game in the 5 regular season games and dominated us in just about every facet. So high marks to the Habs for learning from experience and figuring out how to play these guys.
I'm still worried about Tampa's power play, which could play a big role in Game 6. The are 6-18 in the series (33% success), but they seem to come in bunches. It's pretty essential that we keep them off the board on the PP, especially since we have been able to handle them at even strength. Either that or we score a PP goal ourselves to balance it out.
But either way this is going to be a huge test. I expect Tampa's best game, which we know is excellent, and I'm just not sure how much gas we have left. Remember last year we had that raucous 7-4 win against the Rangers in Game 5, only to get shut out in Game 6. It's just freaking hard to climb all the way out of a 3-0 hole.
I'm happy for the extra day off, though.

I'm happy for the extra day off, though. I agree; I too expect this to be Tampa's best game of the series, if not year. Throw in the fact that this will be in Tampa, and Tampa didn't get ANY power-plays last game, and I think this will be the most difficult game of the season. I fully expect the Lightning to come out like gang-busters tomorrow, AND for the refs to gift them a power-play in the early going, perhaps in the first two or three minutes. I hope not, but it wouldn't surprise me. Price is going to have to be out of this world good, and we're going to have to get some lucky bounces, which quite honestly we haven't gotten too many of (aside from Bishop's weak glove hand). This is going to be really, really tough. I mentioned it in another thread, but I wonder if the simple addition of Petry has made the difference in becoming a puck possession team. While we had Markov and Subban all year, they played on the same line, meaning that our 2nd and 3rd defensive pairings were made up of some combinations of Emelin, Weaver, Gonchar, Gilbert, Allen, Pateryn, a struggling Beaulieu, and an even more struggling Tinordi. In that list only Beaulieu and Gilbert could ever be considered #3 puck-movers, and even that's a stretch given their play. Beaulieu perhaps some day, but Gilbert is better suited as a 5 or 6. So really for most of the year the 2nd and 3rd pairings on the blueline have had players on them who were possession nightmares. Now with Petry though, everybody slides down a notch, and are in better places for them to play. The trickle down effect has been enormous. Emelin has been better, Gilbert has been MUCH better, and Beaulieu and Pateryn are safely insulated (for the most part), without being asked to play big minutes in prime situations. If you believe that offense begins with the defensemen then adding one player seems to have changed the whole fortunes of the team. Hasn't translated into goals mind you, but at least the chances have been there.

Cheers. That's the attitude, Dis! Have you started Thursday's thread? I have and I haven't ... I had an entire thread done with Maurice Richard being the feature, but I changed it to reflect Bernie Geoffrion because I couldn't find the JPGs Mr Richard that I needed ... I have them now, though, and I'll start the new thread around the same time I did for Game 5(why change the pattern)... Tampa will be wanting to snuff out any kind of comeback but here's the thing ... Tampa went up to a 3-0 series lead but I suspect both clubs know that two of those games could have gone another way ... now, I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm of the opinion that the Habs have been the best team in 4/5 games thus far and I really can't see that changing tomorrow night ... they'll probably have to whether the opening-period storm, but if they play tomorrow night, the way they have in the series, I suspect we'll be going back to Montreal where the Habs will be very, very tough to beat ... and in case anyone wants to ask, yes, I'm expecting the guys to win tomorrow night ... doesn't mean they will, but it's part of the expectations I've had for this club all year and I'm not changing those now ... Cheers.

This is going to be really, really tough. This is the way you'd expect a desperate team to come out ... wouldn't surprise me in the least ... I mentioned elsewhere that the lack of penalties against Montreal in Game 5 might make for some bad karma for Game 6 ... still, it would be nice to see Plekanec kick-start his playoffs with a SH goal on one of those early PPs you mentioned ... one other thing ... with the exception of Game 2, the Habs have been the better team in the series (just the way I see it, anyway) ... but that's past now and they'll have to prove it all over again tomorrow night ... get a couple of iffy ones on Bishop and let's see what happens ... Cheers.

Hasn't translated into goals mind you, but at least the chances have been there. I'm not sure why we're so worried about TB getting some penalties. It gives us a better chance to score. Petry has indeed made a huge difference. I sure hope we can re-sign him. We've got a a couple of top 6 potential wingers coming up, but no defencemen with that same potential, so I think it's worth spending the money on Petry, if he likes Montreal enough. I'll also congratulate Therrien on keeping his team focused for game 4. That has to be one of the toughest tests for any coach, making sure his team believes they can win. I've said before that MT does a very good job of cultivating a caring atmosphere between teammates. That went a long way toward turning the corner in game 4. I hope they can keep it up. Ten more wins to go.

I think that Gally is going to have to be on his toes -- and off of Bishops'. Even though the refs are looking at Bishop for being a pushover diving, Gally too is looked at. Get close, but not too close.
I'm still of the opinion that if the goalie is out of the blue paint that he should be able to be bumped -- not fair game for pummeling, but he's out of the protected area; why are the refs still protecting him?
That goes for everyone except Carey, of course.

Gally did get a warning last game, when he was a little too close with a late slash. I am sure he will play it close to the line though, he always has and always likely will.

One good thing, seems like the refs may have clued into TBays diving. We'll see if they have the guts to keep it up.

I know he's considered a key guy on Tampa, but production wise and possession wise, he's done little or nothing. I would equate him to Brandon Prust, but I think Brandon's done more, while taking up a lot less CAP space. In any case, whoever replaces him may actually play better than Callahan, so I don't believe it helps us out any. At least not as much as losing Emelin helps them out.

I suspect it means Drouin gets back in the line up. Has struggled so far in his NHL career. Doesn't worry me too much for game 6 but game 7 is another story as i never like home grown boys returning to the Bell Centre.

He's a faster Brenden Morrow. His offensive struggles aside, removing his speed, fore check, and physical presence does create a hole in their lineup.

Both teams should come out flying. It always seems like we have to withstand the initial push. Would be nice if Tbay had to withstand ours, but that's not really the way it plays out most of the time. A nice quick counter attack goal at the start would be ideal and get their attention. Back them off a bit. As the game goes on, as long as the guys stick to it, we can take over. Just no brain farts, and post in more often than post out, we'll be fine.
I keep waiting for the bounces to even out a bit. It's really quite amazing how close we come sometimes. The payoff isn't matching the effort the guys are putting into it.

This should be the most difficult game of the year. Playing as mistake free as possible, forcing mistakes, and surviving Tampa's power-plays will probably determine the final outcome. How's that for a detailed, non-cliché analysis? Deep, I know. Deep.

What's miffing me a tad right now is how much the media is playing on "Montreal gets a small break as Callaghan will not be playing" ... one of the local radio stations quoted TSN almost word for word this morning ... so remember, if we win tonight it's because we caught a break ... as for the game, I think it could go either way ... will be interesting to see if Montreal can keep that full-court press up tonight ... like, where was that all season, eh ...
Cheers.
