MB ties up Beau for another two years at a very decent cap hit. He should be an effective top 4 next year. He gained a lot of confidence this year and plays well at both ends. At that price he may also be attractive to other gms if MB needs to get that top end offensive forward - just saying.

I was surprised at the amount as I thought he'd get in the $1.5 range. I think he's worth that, so Berg gets a discount.

Good bridge deal, and less than I thought the Berg would have to pay. In his call, sounds like Beau is taking a very mature and focused approach to things these days. I like it, as he is a talented young defender with promise.
Now, let's lock up Galchenyuk and Tinordi. I expect bridge deals again, although Chucky will get more coin of course.

Nice contract for the club. He made big steps forward in 2014-15.

Nice contract for the club. He made big steps forward in 2014-15. Yup! I also get the sense that MT likes him which means he could get a lot of ice time - deserved or not. But i'm good with playing the kids.

But i'm good with playing the kids. Good contract by MB. Nate has to play more and Markov has to play less... Markov cannot be used and abused by MT like he was last year.

Add my voice to the "good deal" chorus.
I thought Beaulieu was going to get about $1.25 to $1.5 million per year, so good on Bergevin for saving a couple of hundred thousand. In my goofing-around-with-the-cap free time that extra couple hundred comes in real handy. So nicely done. What I also like about this deal is it pretty much guarantees a similar, and probably smaller, deal for Tinordi.
Barring any trades I think Bergevin's salary structure is pretty much set. Still to sign are Tinordi, Galchenyuk, Mitchell and Flynn:
* Tinordi's deal is already written, I would think. As mentioned, Beaulieu's deal pretty much caps it, so unless Daddy Tinordi wants to get all Mommy Lindros on Bergevin here I don't think there is much Jarred can do but sign it.
* Galchenyuk's contract should be interesting, but based on Nail Yakupov's deal ($2.5 million) I can't see it being any higher than $3 million per year, and even that would be high. While Galchenyuk has been better than Yakupov I wouldn't say he has been THAT much better. Both have 42 goals in their brief careers, while Galchenyuk has 16 more assists over three years. I'll let the agents battle it out with the advanced stats, but I figure Alex will come in around $2.85 million, give or take.
* I like Mitchell as a player, I think he can be really useful and I hope he is re-signed... but let's not get carried away. Right now he's our 4th line center, with gusts of third line potential. He would be next year's Manny Malhotra, and I think he should be paid as such. I'll give him more than Malhotra's $1 million, because I think he's better than Dear Manny, but we still have to remember his roster slot. I'd offer $1.5 million, and if Torrey can do better, then best of luck to you. I'm pretty sure I can find a 4th line center for $1.5 million or less. So that's how much I think Bergevin has slotted for this position.
* I also happen to like Bryan Flynn (really, I do), but again, let's keep in mind his roster position; 13th forward, if he's lucky. So anything over $750,000 would be an overpayment, if you ask me. And if Flynn doesn't like it? Bournival, Dumont, Thomas, Andrighetto, Bowman, Tangradi, Carr, Hudon...
I like that Bergevin is getting this done early. I suspect he's got big plans for the summer, and wants to have all his ducks lined up beforehand. Now whether those plans include a huge roster shakeup or a 6 week Mediterranean cruise with his wife remains to be seen...

Love the price on this deal, got him to sign for about 25-35% less than I thought he would.
Subban, Beaulieu, Petry and Markov, I like that top four, yes in my opinion Nathan will solidify himself as a top 4 defenceman this season. Now we just need two punishing net clearers, are Pateryn and Tinordi ready to be those two?

Greg is a solid NHLer with upside to become a very good, dependable and tough SOB to play against. Let's hope Jared and his dad take a deep breath and start looking at the man in the mirror with a little more scrutiny.

Tinordi could be just fine. Rather than looking in the mirror, it might be better for he and Therrien and Berg to have a heart to heart about exactly what kind of defenseman they want him to be. IMO, they focused too much on requiring him to be an enforcer. He's a decent fighter and he's big, so he can do some protecting of his teammates, but he's not a goon. He's not equipped to go up against heavyweights and they're a dying breed anyway. I just think they wasted a year of his development, trying to make him something he's not. If they focus on defending, reading the plays and a good zone clearance, he'll develop into that role. Then, he can work on other attributes (offense) later. I have trouble believing a kid who dominated his position at London in his final year and was one of, if not the top defenseman at the WJC for the US, can have failed to progress. I don't think its all on him.

I don't think its all on him. I think they're handling him a bit better than they did with Mike Komisarek ... Komisarek did time in the minors but he made into the show a lot sooner than Tinner ... to be fair, Tinner probably did everything asked of him by the Sylvain Lefebvre, but he's still not with the Habs ... my concern would be to see him moved in a trade because Lefebvre couldn't develop him into (the organization's?) image of an NHLer, only to see him excel elsewhere under a different approach ... the Habs wouldn't be the only team to have this happen to them, I guess ... Cheers.

Let's hope Jared and his dad take a deep breath and start looking at the man in the mirror with a little more scrutiny. At one point I thought Greg Pateryn had proved more than both Jared Tinordi and Nathan Beaulieu ... however, from time to time I see Beaulieu as Andre Markov's successor ... one thing I find is missing from the defence corps is an elder statesman ... Markov learned a lot from Craig Rivet back in the day ... the two of them were always talking to each other and Rivet proved to be the right mentor ... it wasn't too long ago that we tended to win more games with Markov in the lineup than we did when he was injured ... the team isn't as reliant on him for that nowadays ... he may be the elder statesman but he starting to play like a senior citizen (I'm a senior in Denny's btw) ... where's Beaulieu's mentor ... PK Subban maybe ... someone like Eric Weinrich would probably do the trick me thinks ... Cheers.
