www.tsn.ca/talent/adidas-lands-nhl-jersey-deal-1.346839TSN making the league between Adidas and potential on-jersey advertising. He claims that those against it will grow to accept it, like in BPL soccer. Right, so your argument for it is based on a league whose teams wear jerseys with ads bigger than the team logo? Sorry, no. Those not in favor of it will never be in favor of it, and I count myself in that group. $4 million a year, per team, is the expected 'windfall'? Just raise each ticket by a dollar. Boom.

I doubt you will ever see a advertisement on a Habs sweater. The fans would go nuts!!!

I guarantee it that I'll never buy a Habs jersey with a corporate logo on it (not counting the CH front and center + jersey maker ie adidas/reebok/CCM found behind the neck)

Watch a BPL game. Try and find the team logo on the jersey. It's been reduced to a small crest/coat of arms in the upper left for the most part. Man U are the Chevrolets if you go by their jersey. Only diehard BPL fans know team nicknames now, or can identify traditional logos. Let's make it harder to identify the teams by their logo by obscuring it with ads. After that, ad executives will say "Can you redesign your jersey to better fit our brand? The pattern is interfering with it. Thaaaaanks." Is that what we really want for a marginalized brand?

People say baseball is not in tune with the times, but in a way I kind of like what they stand for. The idea of a corporate logo on the Yankees, Cards, Sox, Cubs uniform would never be entertained to start with.

The Yankees are so steeped in tradition they won't even put player names on the back of their jerseys.

I relate the concept most often to technology, but it works this way as well. Too many sports have got caught up in technology - hockey, golf. Baseball, at least at the mlb level, has remained purist. I'd like to see the NHL go back to wooden sticks for a slew of reasons, for example.

This is just not the Premier League. Every soccer league in Europe ( La Liga, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 etc) does this as does MLS. What bothers me more in European soccer is the annual changes in the uniform - nothing but a cash grab.

How much would each team get for selling their soul? $1 million a season may be a lot to the Canes but would the Habs do it for that?
And while we're talking about selling your soul. Suppose for a moment (never going to happen) that a team said we will be able to lower our ticket prices 20% with this added revenue from ads on the jersey. Would us fans support it?

I would suspect the casual fan would reply yes, the hardcore would not. I for one would be very disappointed if they put ads on the jersey. I would like to think that Geoff Molson and the history his family has with the team, would understand that there are some things are more important than money... regardless what the NHL brass say in New York.

Wouldn't mind in the least if the NHL were to adapt European-sized rinks, but I don't like the idea of advertising on jerseys at all ... some of those European jerseys look like cereal boxes ... Cheers.

I'm ok with ads provided Bettman gets a tattoo on his forehead that says, "I'm a doofus".
