Habs in a tough spot with TP coming off one off his better years but at 31 how many does he actually have left???.... If he matches his current output he's in line for a raise and do you really want to venture down that road of uncertainty? My concern is that they are not that committed to Galchenyuk at C I Hope I'm wrong but we all know MT's impatience.....so without that commitment that complicates the situation. Pleks is ideally a number 2 if Galchenyuk blossoms and can take over that role all the better especially if Pleks doesn't want too much of a raise....I'd consider a modest bump but 2-3yrs Max. Given our uncertainty at C especially offensively I'm leaning toward resigning him but $ and age scare me .

Early perhaps to say how this work out. I like Plekanec and respect his fine career with the Habs. But to be honest he is the oldest and highest paid centre on the team and this makes him the prime candidate for to part ways since after all he is not a #1 centreman.
Of course, this judgment is based on assumption Galchenyuk having the confidence of the organization, which personally I believe he deserves. And also on assumption Eller and Desharnais are Therrien guys and only if Montreal plays poorly this season will Therrien future become in doubt.

No doubt tied into if Chuck can cut it as a center

I'd be surprised to see Pleks sign this year, not sure he'll be traded though. He has value, but he's ageing and slowing down.

Notice how quickly that "a-deal-for-Plekanec-is-already-done" rumour went away ... I'd much rather have Plekanec as my 2nd-line centre than Desharnais ... that's just me, though ...
Cheers.

I agree Dis, I wonder though if he will start to slow down as the season progress....ie Markov.

I agree Dis, I wonder though if he will start to slow down as the season progress....ie Markov. Andre Markov had back-to-back injuries to the same knee ... I think Tomas Plekanec will be good to go this year ... he's already one of the hardest-working players either at practice or during a game ... I'm not picking on David Desharnais, far from it ... I just think we'd be better off with Pleks if it came down to a decision between the two ... Cheers.
