Did a quick look at the Habs' lineup. At most you might see 6 of the guys dressed tonight on the Habs' roster to start the season and probably only 2 or 3 (if that) in the lineup opening night. Kind of hard to get excited about this game (and I'm glad I turned down the opportunity to go to the game - would have been a major waste of my time).

Hard to tell who from either team is trying to impress.
A beige game at best.

DD likely our best player tonight. I laughed when I heard this commentary tonight. ROMANUK: Weise, I think, has been the best player on the ice for either team..... MILLEN: (Steven Wright-dry) ...a fourth liner in the regular season....

Hard to tell who from either team is trying to impress. A beige game at best. Trying to be objective, watching bubble guys. Most of the guys playing tonight will be assigned to Hamilton tomorrow. Thomas had a shift in the first that showed some good board work, but I was hoping to see some offensive instinct. Nope. Hard to see where there's room in Montreal long term for guys like him, maybe Andrighetto too.

Condon continues to be the more solid backup option. Been thinking that for a whole lot of last season. Wonder if he can win the spot at some point.

Condon continues to be the more solid backup option. Been thinking that for a whole lot of last season. Wonder if he can win the spot at some point. He's 25, so just entering his prime. Tokarski is in the last year of his deal, and will be an RFA still. Condon is signed through 16/17, at which point he'll be a UFA. It's up to Dustin to determine who the Habs stick with. Worst case, Mike becomes a good trade chip down the road.

The good news is that the AHL starter will be a good one.

For sure, and no pressure on Fucale.
Now Leafs are taking every chance to run him ...
Dietz has had an effective game. Showed some wheels, and has won some puck battles. Usually makes the right play.

So, with this crappy lineup, MT still puts Smith-Pelly over Kassian on the second wave of the PP. I fear Kassian may be very under-utilized this season. Hope he gets a fair shake. Still meaningless preseason.

This is basically the IceCaps vs. the Marlies. Weise and DD are our best offensive players countering Bozak and JVR on Toronto.
For a hopeful to impress, he'd REALLY have to impress....
That said...we're 0-6 on the PP tonight.
1-0 final. Winning leaves a better taste in the mouth in pre-season, too.
Now for some 3-on-3.

Babcock puts out Gardiner, Bozak, and JVR. OT over quickly as JVR finds Weise as the last man back.
Why not? You've lost the game....have the fans leave relatively happy.

MT starts with DLR on the OT. Funny stuff. JVR scores on 3 on 3 exhibition, after we win 1-0 snoozer.

Can someone explain how Jack Hanley (#71 against the Leafs) can play in this game? Hockeydb has him as a 17 year old...born April 1998. Is that the right Hanley?

Joel Hanley. 24 year defender. Signed in off season to a one year deal. Assigned to AHL today along with 8 others.

Give each Hab a vitamin B12 injection an hour before each game. It won't make them more skillful but at least it'll energize them.
