... having said that, I still have no problem going back to a tie game with no OT ... Cheers. I never understood what was wrong with ties, Dis. The game was pretty even last night and I don't really have a problem having both teams walk away with a point.

I had forgotten the regular season timeline for the gimmicks.....so I looked it up.
1983-84. 5-on-5 for 5:00. 0 points for the loser. 2 pts. for the winner.
1999-00. CHANGE: 4-on-4 for 5:00. 3-pt. game introduced. The single OTL point guaranteed for the loser. 2 pts. for the winner.
2005-06. CHANGE: Shootout added. 4-on-4 remains. Single OTL or SOL point for the loser. 2 pts. for the winner.
2015-15 CHANGE: 3-on-3 for 5:00. Because people don't like to see shootouts determine a game. Ha! It's been argued that penalty shots occur more often than does 3-on-3 play.
What happened with the 3-pt. game starting in 1999-00, is that teams would sit on a tie in regulation, taking their chance for the extra pt. in OT.
With the shootout, they'd sit on tie through OT, taking their chance for the extra pt. in the SO.
3-on-3 is simply a joke.
So, I'm with the traditionalists on this one. Go back to tie games ending after 60:00. Each team gets a point. Truest to the game.
I mean traditionalists in terms of the "Original Six" era that began in 1942-43. Regular season OT was used in the NHL prior, but WWII travel restrictions led to its discontinuation during that season.
The original regular season OT period, from what I researched, was 10 minutes, 5-on-5, and not sudden death. If both teams scored the same number of goals after 10 minutes, the game was a tie. Single point each.
Basically, every game had the potential to be 70:00.

I'd try....at least for a GAME..... Pacioretty-Galchenyuk-Gallagher Eller-Plekanec-Semin I'M all for stability and I was hoping the top lines would eventually sort it out by themselves, but it isn't happening. Let's hope tonight it does, otherwise I agree with you that switching Galchenyuk/Plekanec could be something worth a try.
