I agree that mgt and coaching will likely do a better job splitting the load between Condon and Tokarski.

I don't feel like he was rushed also. It is ultimately Price's decision. If he says he's good to go, he goes. I think a combination of factors contributed to Price returning before he should have. First, Condon was tired or didn't have time to re-adjust to the adjustments made by our opponents, so the goals were going in. Secondly, there is this stupid code that players have to play through pain and that you have to suck it up for your teammates. Ok, I get the reasoning for that, but there are hangnail injuries and there are amputation injuries. Some you can play through and some you have to wait till the leg re-attaches. So while Carey was probably gung-ho to get back in, if some of us can see he wasn't even at 90%, surely the braintrust should have seen that and had the courage to keep Price out. If he heals fully within a month or so, no problem, but what if it continues to linger and then flares up again in April? That's not a pretty scenario. Purely speculating from the cheap seats, but I wonder if they were concerned about "losing" Condon? No doubt his play had started to deteriorate, and whether that was understandable or not is sort of besides the point I guess, if Condon was taking it too much to heart. I was at the Arizona game, the last one before Price's return, and I noticed that with about three minutes left, during a stoppage in play, Condon banged his stick on the ice in frustration. This wasn't after he let in a bad goal or anything, this was after him (I'm assuming) looking up at the scoreboard, seeing how much time was left and blaming himself for costing the team a win. Now if management saw that, or saw his demeanor slumping in the dressing room, maybe they figured Price at 90% was better than completely shattering Condon's confidence? The guy is a rookie after all, and they WILL need him for the rest of the season, at various points. Heck, they may even need him in the playoffs for a game or two. So they may have thought that they needed to get him out of there for his own good, and their options were Tokarski or a 90% Price, who was perhaps telling them he was ready to go. I don't know. Cheap seat psychology.

I agree that mgt and coaching will likely do a better job splitting the load between Condon and Tokarski. I think they rode Condon hard because they only anticipated Price to be out for a few games. Mike was winning games and was looking good doing it, so they rode the hot hand.

Something didn't seem right with Price returning when he did. On Wednesday the 18th Price hit the ice for the first time and faced a few shots from Waite. MT's comments after practice: "He's progressing, we're glad, but this is too early to talk about a comeback. The good news is that he's progressing well." Two days later he's the starter against the Isles. Hopefully this is a lesson well learned by the Habs and Price, and this setback doesn't have any longer term impacts.

I guess the silver lining in this is that we have a relatively "easy" schedule coming up in the next week or so. We play New Jersey back-to-back, and they have a woeful offense. We then play the even more woeful Columbus Blue Jackets (though they have been much better of late). Then a tough game against the Capitals, followed by another soft landing against Carolina. After that it picks up again, with games against the Bruins, Red Wings, Senators, Sharks and Kings. So I think we can get through the next week in decent shape, barring a total melt-down from Condon. Which may or may not happen, but let's pretend it doesn't. Heck, I'd even be okay with trying out Tokarski in one of the games against New Jersey, and possibly the Carolina game, just to give Big Mike a rest. After that, let's see where we, and more importantly, Price are at... I think the Habs will be determined to win every game on their schedule. The 2 goals by DSP is an encouraging sign, as is the fact that the Habs handled Lundqvist and the Rangers D at MSG while yielding only 1 goal. The mighty Rangers were said the be up for this game in particular.

I'm hoping the team takes the long view and plays both Tokarski and Condon for as long as it takes Price to heal. I think it's a fairly reasonable assumption that team will make the playoffs. The win-loss stats to me are less important than a fully recovered Price ready and raring to go for a Cup run.
It's nice to see the DSP showing some of the form as a physical north-south player that got him selected in the second round. I'm not saying Sekac is chopped liver, but I think MB (Vaughn Karpan?) may have found another solid player.

The mighty Rangers were said the be up for this game in particular. Both teams entered this game intending to make a statement...only one achieved that goal. Although Price left after two periods, he did nothing to erode his recent domination of the Blueshirts.

Cheap seat psychology. How cheap? Would they allow Cranky into that area? That (your speculation) could be, but isn't that what Waite and Therrien are paid to deal with? Throw together a video of Carey letting in say a dozen bad goals (if you can find that many) and show how he overcomes that and stays mentally strong. It's a matter of keeping up his confidence. If he was indeed physically tired, then you play Tokarski for a game (which they probably should have done anyway). Could be a lot of things that led to Price coming back, but the facts are: a) I don't think you can question he wasn't healed yet. Even if he says he's ready to go, practices and the first game tell you otherwise. Why push it? We are playing for the Stanley Cup, not the President's Trophy, but I can find a couple of examples that seem to suggest otherwise. b) Price was very likely putting pressure on himself and being the leader he is, wanted back in ASAP. c) It's not a bad idea to 'stretch' some injuries. I've read that healing can actually go better if you use the injured part a bit. So have Price practice and maybe play a game a week. Just speculating from the standing room only section.

Loved seeing the win last night. Owning the Rnajerks in their own building was great. some contributions from other players. Great stuff. Frustrated about Price. I'm hanging this on him. He had the final say as to when he was coming back.

I smell a conspiracy here - undoubtedly Leaf fans have a hand in it.

Can't post as much as my damn work has blocked the site as "suspicious". There's more than enough sites I can't access at work ... anything requiring 'flash' or streaming will not work ... I make sure that anyone wanting to contact me at work, knows that DND email and internet is monitored by 'Big Brother' ... access to any social media is not authorized ... Facebook, Twitter and certain functions on LinkedIn, all blocked ... personal flash drives are detected immediately and will result in a 3-month suspension of privileges ... when you can't do your job without a computer, the company gets involved and it could lead to a temp layoff ... in the meantime the company finds a replacement and if might take you a while to get back to work ... accessing this website is no problem, however ... could care less if 'Big Brother' knows I visit here multiple times a day ... never know, though ... might give them something good to read for a change ... Cheers.
