... realistically, I think MT knows he's out, and so do the players, at this point everyone will try to not be the problem, but no one will take the bull by the horns and make us win. It took a while to convince me, but I think this might be the case ... I'm in a bit of disbelief as to how this continues to happen ... it's a free-fall and it doesn't look to be ending any time soon ... best=case scenario; we make the playoffs ... plan B: MT resigns just as soon as the Habs are officially out of the playoffs ... I just don't get it ... Cheers.

Nobody is accountable. Nobody gets fired. Nobody cares.
This is now officially worse then the Houle era. I'll be on cloud 9 when both of the clowns get fired.

I can't believe I paid $200 for Gamecenter. Literally throwing money away. I paid $9 bucks for the French option about 6 weeks ago. NINE BUCKS! You know how many games I watched in French? ONE. At the time, my wife was torturing negotiating with the Rogers rep and she got that thrown in by a LEAF fan no less. I was pretty happy about it......and now I wish it never happened. This is worse then anything from the Gainey era. The current clown act has passed the Houle clown act.

Post game press conference. .. mthead asked if egg line should be put back together. .. says now is not the time to put the egg line back together Can't anyway. Not after the eggs have gone through the blenderizer. Seventeen's temporary line-up. It will at least cool my anger Patches - Chuck - Gallagher Andrighetto - Plekanec - Weise Desharnais - Eller - Scherbak Byron - Flynn - Mitchell Subban - Beaulieu Petry - Markov Barberio - Pateryn Reasons? That's 2 guys from St. John's who aren't playing to any extent now. The biggest stretch is for Scherbak, but I think Eller can cover for him somewhat on defense. DD has been good at 3rd line LW. It's a defensive line with some offense at LW and some size at the other 2 spots. The first line is obvious. The 2nd and 3rd lines are more or less interchangeable. If Carr was available, I'd replace Ghetto with him. I'd also replace Pleks with Hudon if he continues to play poorly. He might need a jolt to get himself going and sitting out a game may do that. I'm not happy with Mitchell's game lately at centre. Putting him on the RW might work out better. Byron's hurt right now, so someone has to replace him. Don't really care who as it doesn't work without him there anyway. On D, Beaulieu has to play more minutes. If Markov and Petry don't have chemistry, move Markov down to 3rd pair, but I'd even out the minutes a lot more than now. Trying to put together a line-up really highights the lack of talent and options, but one has to start giving the young guys some time. The losers are DSP, Gilbert, and Emelin. I don't like their games. Pateryn's part of the future, may as well start treating him like it. Outside of Markov, it's a young, quick group. Beau and Barberio could be stronger. But it's not bad. Up front, one could even swap Eller and Pleks. Its more a matter of finding who has chemistry with who, rather than a 1,2,3 sort of thing. You can always give whoever is doing well, more minutes. Lots of holes in the line-up, but it's better than I saw tonight. If Scherbak can keep showing his offensive flair, it won't hurt to give him early exposure to the bigs. So what if his defense isn't that good right now. But we need someone else behind the bench to instruct and develop good habits in the boys. I'd bring up McCarron and put him at Center. Perhaps Eller-McCarron-Weise ; then Desharhais-Plekanec-Sherbak

See, I know they're going to move some players at the deadline. But instead of Plekanec, Desharnais, Markov, Emelin, or Gilbert I have a feeling it's gonna be Eller, Barberio, Andrighetto, or Pateryn. This is where whether or not Bergevin is back starts to matter.... if he's going to get fired, he shouldn't be making hockey decisions. But I expect he'll stick around, but we'll start to see him make some tough calls, like decide who to give up on and who to be patient with. I expect guys like DSP, Barberio and Lessio to get more chances, but a guy like Andrighetto might find himself falling down (or off) the depth chart... This is the month where Molson has to be shown results, and Molson should inform Bergevin this month decides his future as GM. If Bergevin manages to get rid of the players we all know need to go, and shed salary, then maybe you keep him on. If he can't find trading partners, because trades are hard, and we are stuck with the same team next year and the Center position is still murky, then Bergevin's derrière better be on the unemployment line Bergevin better also lock up a top three pick ... So the AHL hopefuls have to be brought up, and the only way that's possible is to dump some of the deadwood

If the guys blend in well, I'd consider doing that. McCarron can play RW for a while too, though, unlike Therrien, I'd be grooming him for a centre role.

I believe his contract takes him thru to 2022, yes 2022. I don't know what he's getting but i assume it is at least $2 million a year. That's in excess of $10 million Molson drops. Include MT's contract in there and your now approaching $20 million. One thing we know about Molson, he loves his money. He won't have a choice about MT but I think MB is here for a while yet. That may be why he is so meandering in his ability to take any action.

Do nothing that stops the plummet for this season. Shelve Price, start your search for new staff but don't hire until at least after the deadline, sell off what you can, buyout others, and leave the group in Hamilton alone.
Tampa bounced back after a lottery pick and a new coach. Montreal bounced back after their lottery pick the year before. A better coaching staff, the purge of a couple of players, and a high lottery pick this year will do wonders.

It's a train wreck. Hard to watch but hard to look away.
But there shouldn't be any panic moves. I don't care if MT is fired now or at the end of the season, as long as he goes. The season is toast anyway and at this point I will take as high a draft pick as we can get. I love this team but it's ok to be in full tank mode.
Berg also has to resist the temptation to make moves that won't help us next year. Hopefully there will be some demand at the deadline to move out a couple of non essential guys, giving us more options in the summer.
The losing sucks but it's for the best at this point. All the MT bashes, and I have been one of them, will get their wish and all those who criticized Bergevin for being too laissez fairer will also get their wish. Let's just hope he doesn't blow it.

On the other hand, many assistant coaches and other candidates are available over the summer... if there's no one available right now who fits the bill, might as well stick with MT. I think MT gets canned within 72 hours of the last game, but not before. I figured 24, but that was before last night. I was willing to put up with it/him the rest of the season, but that was before last night. Columbus, Philadelphia, Buffalo . . . 0-4. and the same platitudes following each game. enough already. where oh where is any semblance of pride? these are the ruddy Habs, for crying out loud.

No Habs' available for the media today....
Is that league policy after a back-to-back...or are the people in charge of this team tired of facing the music?
At the start of the All-Star Break, I found it funny that several Habs used that familiar, standard comment: It'll do us good to get away from hockey for a while....
I kept thinking: But...you've been away from hockey since December 2nd....

This. Gilbert and Weise will have some value to teams looking for depth. Weise showed he can score in the playoffs. He's capable of playing in a few roles, use his speed, etc. As a UFA making $1 million, he should be worth a middling pick (4th I'd think). Gilbert is apparently off IR now, but "can't crack the line up" (lol). Any team looking for defensive depth and a rhd who's reasonably mobile should have some interest (a third??). Try to pawn off Pleks and Markov if you can. Eller and DD too. The last two can be bought out realistically. Buying them out frees up $4.65 million next year.

If we end up with a top 3 lottery pick, I don't want anyone in the current organization making any hockey decisions. Clean house, from Management to coaches as well as scouting staff. I am not impressed with any of our prospects.
Hire a President of Hockey Operations (with a hockey background) to overlook management and to hire the right Manager. This team lacks hockey talent. Hire a manager who is willing to take risks and make tough decisions.
Tired of this nonsense.

No question, Dis. I was just going for the sarcasm. Nothing but cliches.... ==================== No practice today, either. Does that fall under the bargaining agreement? Not that I think we could use instruction in our own zone....or in the offensive zone....or on the PP.....oops, I forgot.... Just heard on TSN690. Last night, Therrien said, in French: We're very aware that it will be very difficult to make the playoffs....

The message the players seem to be repeating lately is that "this system has worked for years" and that they don't understand why it is not now.
You can read that a million different ways, but I will read it this way:
The players are saying it's not their fault, it's the system that isn't working. Which if you think about it, is the coach's responsibility. So in an end around way they are saying it's the coach's problem not theirs.
I don't think I have ever, in all my decades of watching sports seen an entire team, to a man, use "the system used to work" as an excuse.
Am I nuts here?

I would suspect they are trying their nicest to lay the blame at Therrien's feet, but also acknowledging they realize they have to take some blame as well. Which is fine by me, I mean, Therrien last night said " we can't defend, if you can't defend, you can't win" ... that's throwing the players under the bus. That's his job to ensure they CAN defend.

Noah should have been selected to the WJC team. He was the last cut, and his pm ability would have been a huge help to a defense that struggled to move the puck the whole tournament. Scherbak suffered a setback with a concussion this year, but he's back and playing his first pro season. McCarron is 4th in team scoring, 6th in rooking scoring for the league.

I think the issue with that group is that we know they are still a few years away. They were supposed to be the "next" core for when this group needed replacing. But asking them to step up now or next year or the year thereafter into roles they maybe are not ready for yet is setting them up for failure in advance. Detroit does it best. They let their kids stay in the minors until they can dominate and mature. They could do that because their pro core was established. The system, coaches, GM... everything is on the same page. My understanding is they are doing that with the Ice Caps, system wise. Which brings us right back to... maybe the system is just not the right one for the group they have assembled and drafted. You don't pick players to fit into a system, you fit your system around the players you have. The fact that they have been unable to adjust is not an incitement on them but on the coaching group that is unable to adjust to their players. But we know we all of this, the media knows all of this, the players it appears know all of this. How can everyone know it except the coach and GM? It just doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

I agree that the likelihood of any of them, or Fucale, making an impact at the NHL level next year is small. 18-20 year olds that make an impact at the NHL level typically don't get picked after 20th overall. There are exceptions of course. With Galchenyuk, Gallagher, Beaulieu, and to a lesser extent Pateryn, I think there are enough 'kids' on the roster. There are some young tweeners - 'Ghetto, Carr, that could do with an extended look in a legitimate role. Then we have the guys in their primes - Pacioretty, Subban, Petry, Price. It's the vets that shown to be a weakness this season. Plekanec, Markov, Desharnais (who I include here because of his decline and he's 29). Removing the dead weight, the ineffective coaching staff, and drafting in the top 3 this year will go a long way. They have an extra second this year. The only round they don't have a pick in is the 7th. Pawning off some spare parts for extra picks this year would be hugely beneficial to the talent pool.

I do believe the players are trying. There were moments last night where they looked pretty good. But the awful defensive zone breakdowns are caused by poor decisions, bad communication, or both. I don't see much chatting on the bench, or on the ice between faceoffs, but maybe I'm just not looking in the right places.
