Nice to see some scoring. But bouy are the Oil bad. Ya, they have some potential superstars but after that pretty thin; especially on the blue line.
And let's be honest. Scrivens had to make some huge saves or Habs are behind early. Some pretty dumb giveaways but fortunately didn't end up in our net. Guess MB won the Scivens trade - for today anyway. Although I'd start him tomorrow. He's playing with confidence.
Zach was horrible.
Max and DD are so tiresome to watch. It is so futile and it will not change. DD is who he is. I don't know what to make of Max.
Can we win back to back. Hope the boys like the winning feeling - ALOT!

See a post game thread was just started. So mods feel free to delete this one (I don't know how). Or we could have 2 post game winning threads as they seem so rare these days.

I agree with your assessment of the game.
Scrivens big early and often....we score on our first PPO....and, instead of over-worrying about McDavid (who said Subban is one of the best in the world), we go after their defensive weakness.
Good game plan and execution.....BUT....the Oilers came out hot and Scrivens was solid.
Someone suggested that Pleks perhaps increased his trade value today.....

Did not watch 3rd after the SH goal. I have so little confidence in them right now that when I turned the TV on at 5PM I thought I might see a SO.
Let's hope this continues. The last time they won 5-1 (winter classic) things did not go so well.

As HS pointed out, Scrivens made some big saves, but that's what most goaltenders in the league are relied on by their teams for ... thought he had some luck this afternoon, too ... still good to see five goals up on our side of the board for a change ...
Cheers.

One thing they haven't been able to do is build on wins. Plekanec with a four point game. Don't expect that against a Carolina team that generally has sound goaltending.

Tomorrow will be more of a litmus test. In the presser today, Therrien doesn't seem to have lost any of his "confidence". He criticized Eller's defensive play, stating he trusts Pleks and he trusts Desharnais. ? Confirmation he's truly lost it. He trusts DD's defensive play.

How did he find time to criticize the guy that scored the winner?

Scrivens played a whale of a game, especially early. If we get down 1 or 2-0 in the first (as what has been happening), it would've likely been more of the same.

I missed the first period. It was nice to see the boys playing with confidence and jumping forward into the open spaces.
Therrien being Therrien in the post-game comments.

I'm glad it stoppped the embarrassment but despite the win MT is MT.....DD needs to be 3rd line C or better yet on the wing and Chucky need to play with Patches despite what he wants. Now can they win back to back for the first time in months??

I think he honestly believes he needs to keep some guys on edge to make them play their best. He should have been born 30 years before he actually was, to fit the right Mould.

It was nice to come home, open the tablet and see a 5-1 win. Dinner then relax and watch what right with the universe!
The announcer had an orgasm every time Mcdavid touched the puck. I expted him to tell us the colour of his sh*t...and what it tasted like.
MiniKoivu had a whale of a game. Then again, he had our top wingers.
Big Gal is buying into Little gals trench warfare. Unfortunatly, i deleted too many games but if this is the new norm for Big Gal, i like it.
Scrivens, full marks, but he makes me nervous.
Not exactly brilliant game nor well controlled, we were the better team as long as we dug in and didn't play pond hockey with them. Their defense and goaltending sucks big time. As much as they accumulate forwards, they need to part with a few for decent defenseman. Beau would find a nice home there.....for a top 6 forward. If they had Subban and Price....10 year dynasty.
Nice to talk about winning.....and before i forget....FIRE THERRIAN.

MThead needs to earn his empty head reputation...even when we win. Eller plays a tougher game then his pet midget. But then, if he acknowledges that, where is his justifications? Meritocracy is dead. Long live the MThead pets.

You get solid goaltending and forwards that converts scoring chances and all of sudden you see a completely different story on the ice...
Great game by Plekanec but it gets me mad to see him coast for 2+ months and suddenly put up a perfomance like this... For weeks and weeks we've been wishing, praying, hoping for an inspired performance by the leaders and when everything is just about lost, Pleks puts up a performance like this... I dunno... perhaps he's just showing himself off for a deadline trade...

You're right though, it has to help his trade value when people see what he is capable of when motivated.

As well as he played and despite the points he got I thought Gally and Chuck were better. Pleks was the beneficiary of good line mates and good fortune. Not expecting him to keep lighting it up.

Edmonton is not a physical team. Our opponents who can, lay the body on us and then the guys we count on, like Pleks and Max and quite a few others of our players, don't have it in them to compete and we're in trouble. When we're comfortable playing a non-physical team like Edmonton, who have some defensive issues, then it's easier for us and we can look quite good.
Not to diminish yesterday's game, because I saw a much better effort level out of most players, especially the top line, but I'll need a few games in a row of that type to convince me anything has improved.

I just don't recall Pleks ever coming up big when we needed him most….he has 46 pts. in 81 playoff games (.57 ppg). Is that considered good for a Top 6 centre on a contender? I recall an OT goal vs. Theo in Game 1, 2010 vs. Washington. Any other major highlights? The problem with lineups like ours is that, since certain players are in our Top 6, they're paid as such….even though it's not contender-value. Which is why their contracts are hard to move. Our other current Top 6 centre, Desharnais, has 13 pts. in 38 playoff games (.34 ppg). Good enough? Pleks and DD combined in the playoffs: 0.91 ppg. I don't know if combining playoff PPG is a legit stat….but let's have a look. Recent Cup champs…Chicago and L.A. in the playoffs….(Carter's playoff stats include his time in Philly). Toews. 102 pts. in 117 playoff games. .87 ppg. Sharp. 81 pts. in 129 playoff games. .63 ppg. Total: 1.50 ppg. Kopitar. 60 pts. in 70 playoff games. .86 ppg. Jeff Carter. 72 pts. in 111 playoff games. .65 ppg. Total: 1.51 ppg. Better teams, better support players, no question….but those Top 6 Cs are a big part of it. Their #2s outperform our #1. Which is why I'm so perplexed/ticked by Chucky's placement and RE-placement on the wing...in favour of DD, especially….. Broken record….

Fair to say we're not going anywhere when Carey returns until MB gets us a top 6 centre. And as alluded to, sad that we may have one in the fold but management refuses to give Chucky a chance. Perplexing indeed!

A good point was brought up on TSN690 this morning ... Subban is highly underrated as a shutdown guy ... McDavid was shooting a hot hand when he came into Montreal ... Subban shut him down very well ...
Cheers.

Most knowledgeable fans know he's tough to play against and is always up against other team best forwards. Unlike Pretty Boy in Ottawa.
