Totally agree. He is a number 3-4 d-man. Just put Brisebois with a big tough lefty D...and you would see a MUCH better Brisebois IMO. Like Seldom Seen Sheldon, perhaps?

Okay but by comparison to the rest of the league assuming that some type of system gets implemented by Julien i really wonder how bad it is. Dykhuis, Briser, Hainsey, Markov, Rivet, and Quintal with travesty as a 7th and Souray on the IR may not be as bad as it seems. (and this is also considering Komi will be around next year) i am content to sit on things for at least a dozen or so games before doing anything at all. We did after all give up less than 30 shots and have almost 40 ourselves in Julien's debut. If this is a sign of things to come will we be complaining about the D in a dozen games or wishing we had somebody putting the puck in the net right now, it's an average if not below average group. Hainsey emerges. It's average if not better Souray comes back and plays like he did in the playoffs. It's above average Komi emerges into Chris Pronger or Scott Stevens ;D it's close to elite.

We can still make a run this year. The defenseman we were talking about would take minimal resources to get and could greatly improve this team. First it could free up some dead wood with the forwards giving the remaining players more defined roles. It could also give Ward and Gratton a shot at the team. A tough hard hitting defenseman would give instant respectibility to a defensive core that sorely needs an attitude. Traverse and Dykhuis wouldn't be playing ever day. Also if souray comes back, remember big if, we will be even stronger. As far as Komo is concerned he won't be on the team till next year barring a late call up. With a guy like Marchment or Ulanov around how could this not help Komo become a punishing checker. Both of these guys have made a living on big hits, and could pass along much needed information to the habs baby monster. Marchment as Marc pointed out is a UFA at the end of this season. Realistically how much do you think it would cost to get him? Hopefully during the next couple of weeks as CJ and the team gets adjusted, we will have some definate answers.

It's above average Komi emerges into Chris Pronger or Scott Stevens ;D it's close to elite. SO then do you want hole filler's right now or some improvements up the middle not short term but long term somebody that could help us for a few season's. Gilmour is retiring soon ribiero could prove worthwhile but i havae serious doubts as he's just a perreault without the faceoff ability. in a couple seasons when our d starts to evolve it could very well be top notch can we say the same for our centers and forward core it's not like we're serious contendors for the cup right now but we definately want to be in the next couple of years. it's forward time if you build from the net out i think it's time to start up front. the net looks solid (assuming Garon doesn't fly the coup this summer. the d looks solid with the emerging and up and coming guys. build a solid forward group with the strength up the middle and when it's ready do some tinkering to finalize the deal and bring back stanley GO HABS GO !!!!

Some filler for this year with Souray out.
Take care of the big center problem sooner rather than later though.

I think a big strong 2nd line center would be great, and if the deal is there AS should make it. That said i still believe a hard hitting defenseman will pay more dividends in the short run and will cost alot less in trade value.
