Third I would address a defense problem that will obviously not solve itself out. We lack character and are too soft. I would trade or waive Dykhuis and Traverse and call up Bouillon who's small but plays bigger then any current HABS dmen. I'd make Hainsey (yes Hainsey) the corner stone of deal to land McLaren or Denis Gauthier. Not because I don't like Hainsey, but because you don't get a McLaren by trading spare parts. No matter how many spare parts you throw in. You want something, you give something. Brisebois and Markov are good puck moving dmen and so is a certain Komisarek... What HABS don't have is guts, roughness and character. for Hainsey? ouch that is a toughie...but like you said we need that tough mean SOB on our blueline. I would love to keep Hainsey and find that mean SOB somewhere else(hello Sheldon...yes get healthy for a change so we can know if you are that guy or not) but sometimes in life that just doesn't happen But I would absolutely hate to see Hainsey become another Leetch somewhere else...especially DIVISION rival Boston.... So Gauthier or McLaren? I go with Denis........http://tsf.waymoresports.thestar.com/thestar/hockey/player.cgi?0920 A leader From here Is a +4 on a bad team(+10 for his career) A little less injury prone than McLaren IMO He didn't attempt to kill our best player in the playoffs last year Gauthier-Brisebois Markov-Rivet some left D-Komi That's one complete defence! you've got your mashers and your offensive guys.

Well here was my list of big tough left d-man I made earlier: habsrus.proboards4.com/index.cgi?board=general&thread=1039196255&action=display&start=Question is do you go for a quick fix a la Tamer or Pushor or fix the problem long term by sacrificing a great young prospect(a Hainsey or...preferably a forward prospect) to get a Gauthier or a McLaren or a McKee or a Bryan Allen? guys who are in their early-mid 20's and can help you for 4-5-6-7 years?

How about Bob Boughner. He is tough, and cheap as well as good in the dressing room. Calgary has lots of trouble whenever he is out of the lineup.

Alas, a man of equal wisdom and depravity. Tell me Sir, do you have a poster of our beloved Hannibal Lecter prominently displayed? You know, right next to the umbrella stand. Surely it must give all visitors, particularly relatives that “make yourself at home and them make yourselves dinner” feeling. Chianti aperitifs anyone? I must bow to you Sir, for nowhere would my imagination conjure such proper thinking as to plant him alive. Certainly the Gods must enjoy this thought, for they, like us, have seen, nee, have witnessed the plateau of greatness that they build, sullied by the blundering acts of coachless and mismanagers. But please, whatever De Sadien acts of kindness you inflict upon him, please keep him dressed. After all, we do have woman and children on this board and such images should not be inflicted on the innocent, not even to the most hardened. All I wish is to inflict the maximum ammount of humiliation upon the one who is most responsible for the heartache that we have had to endure in the recent past. I did not intend to, nor did I even give any thought whatsoever to the profound psycological impact that Therriens nudity would have on any other of the esteemed members of our little community. For this I beg your forgivness. As for my wisdom and depravity...The voices tell me I have along way to go to measure up to your greatness kind sir. I am truly honored to have extracted this wonderfull compliment from a master such as yourself.

Looking at Francois Beauchemin's figures - 6 feet, 206 pounds, best plus-minus on the Bulldogs - I wonder whether he could improve the Canadiens' defence.
You who have seen him play, what do you think?

1 - remove donald audette, jeff hackett, karl dykhuis, and bill lindsay anyhwere. in return look for nothing more than a physical stay at home left defenseman to play with brisebois and possibly a late pick or two. 2 - call up mathieu garon, and jason ward. 3 - play czerkawski on the 2nd line, waiting ample time for his production to total, my bet says it wouldn't take long. Line uphossa - koivu - zednik gilmour - perreault - czerkawski bulis - juneau - dackell kilger - ward - mckay *petrov, ribeiromarkov - rivet new ld - brisebois hainsey - quintal *traversetheodore *garonPP units:hossa - koivu - zednik markov - brisebois gilmour - perreault - czerkawski/mckay hainsey - rivet/quintal PK units:juneau - dackell markov - rivet bulis - kilger new ld - brisebois Bravo! This is exactly what I'd do following the immediate firing of Therrien.

as for needing a left d-man over a right one i really think we need both. a guy like markov could be logging 25+ minutes a game while brisebois takes a back seat to him if markov had the stay at home, strong first pairing right defense partner he needs. rivet just can't do that for us. my suggestion would be to unload quintal or dykhuis and a prospect for a good first pairing right d man that can log a lot of minutes, move rivet to the third pairing, and have the second pairing of brisebois and preferabely dykhuis if he can re find his game to play close to 20 minutes a game while the third pairing of rivet and hainsey plays just under that.
