Markov was a monster The whole team played great in the 3rd. We totally dominated and outshot them. And Theodore was sooooooooolid. Boy, what a win can do for one fan's spirit

Coincidence?

That's the way to play in the third. Hossa looked fantastic. The rangers d is not great and he certainly took advantage. Very tough to knock off the puck. I can't believe it, but good job by Therrien putting him out there with Saku and Zed.

Yup MT with a great decision bumping Hossa to that line, putting Bulis back with JJ and Dacks and benching Audette!

I thought Therrien did a great job tonight behind the bench, for a while in the 3rd he almost looked like Toe Blake with one foot up on the bench looking very wise,if he keeps it up should have a chance for coach of the yearand his first cup!

Pretty decent effort by the boys tonight. Here's what I saw.
Markov looked pretty bad early, but really stepped it up later in the game. After a couple of replays, I still haven't even seen the puck on the goal that he scored. Can you say cannonading? Bulis is all over the ice, and very effective, but so far he seems to have Chad's hands. Good move by Therrien to throw Hossa on the top line, while reuniting the JJ, AD,JB, line. That's the way I'd start the next 5 games, if not more.
Limited ice time for Brisebois and Traverse, it seemed to me tonight. Result,WIN Let's keep it that way. I can't help but think, if we could find one more defenceman named Pat, that we could put all three of them out there, and call them Larry, Curly, and Moe.
Dykhuis, although certainly not a stalwart this year, has been overabused on this board. I'm certainly not defending his lacklustre play, but I'd take him anyday over a couple of stooges any day.

Hossa-Koivu-Zednick A winning combo if I ever saw one. I hope Hossa keeps up the good work. He is agressive, and all over the ice. He looks like Zednick out there. Awesome!!! Bulis looks much more confortable on the checking line and they actually had some chances. He should stay there. Markov...what a zinger...that guy is the uncontested #1 on this team...and by far. It's been a while since we've seen so many turnovers and odd-man rushes. Too bad we couldn't convert on some of them. But, a win is a win and we badly needed it. Do you think maybe MT will learn something in this game and bring up another young sniper to play wing on the second line? Don't hold your breath. cheers.

we've found the top line winger we've been looking for ;D, and we didn't have to trade the future, or sell the farm to get him! he came from within, and he's gonna be great! awesome marcel, let's just hope you never see another AHL bus again in your life!
(probably too soon to tell, but a guy can still dream, and this dream just might come true)

Faceoffs. We were great all night long on faceoffs. Perreault was unbeatable and Koivu was strong on the draws as well.
The future is here, and there names are Markov and Hossa. What a freakin cannon by Markov. WOW. He's on pace for 15+ goals after a career high of 6. It was Markov's fault on the 1st goal, but he redeemed himself bigtime. Also a good night for Hossa. Maybe not as good as his first game, but that's cause I thought he was very good the other night. Sorry Hamilton, but I don't think your going to see Hossa anytime soon. What does he have now 6 career goals or so? Funny thing is, we still have 4 guys going to the All Star game in the AHL, and Hainsey/Hossa werent included.
As for the game, Traverse is struggling in his own end, but does make some good plays on offence, with some nice passes. Great move to sit Audette, it's painful to watch him out there. I heard that Gilmor may play Saturday. Please sit Blouin and not Hossa. Also play Hainsey and give Traverse a night off.

there's no chance Hossa sits on Saturday, Therrien is eating this up, he loves it, Hossa saved his ass (won the game and the media is no longer looking at him, all eyes are on Hossa). he's gonna be on the first line saturday, and i think he'll be there for many games to come.

Markov has tied his career high in points!!!
24 in 2000-01...now 24 this year
what a year this guy is having!!!!!
BTW Montreal, 5 career goals for Hossa in 12 games
and good point Matt, no way can MT even CONSIDER benching Hossa. He would get eaten ALIVE by everyone.

One of the stronger third periods I've seen this year. Then again, it was against the Rangers.
Lindros has to be the most overpaid player in the league. Those short, choppy crossover strides are laughable. No wonder he gets clocked so often, and was sitting at the end of the bench in every key moment of the Olympics.
John Davidson on the MSG network had nothing but good things to say about Hossa, if anyone watched that broadcast. What was up with Bulis tonight? Somebody must have pissed him off before the game, or put some ointment in his jock. He was all over the place, hitting everything. Barnaby seeing stars was a sweet moment!!!! I'm a huge fan of Bulis, from his days as a Barrie Colt, where I saw some pretty sweet finishes. But he is snake-bitten. Its probably best he work things out on the 3rd line, developing his scoring touch, instead of wasting chances on the 1st line.

Benching Hossa probably wouldn't be the dumbest thing MT's ever done , but hopefully reason will prevail over insanity (for once). Don't get too excited though, it's only 2 games, no telling how long Hossa will last. Also, we beat the NYR, big deal. Sure its a good win for the team but it hardly turns the season around (not by itself at least...). Next few games are VERY important.

Get a hold of yourselves boys, we beat the RANGERS, not the STARS. Sheesh....
I am far more interested how Hossa played away from the puck then a goal or two. I guess I have to wait until Saturday.

HA, from what I saw, Hossa was pretty active along the boards, using his size to win a couple of battles. He was also well positioned often in the attacking zone. He seems to have the sniper's mentallity. John Davidson seemed to think he has seen the last of Hamilton. It is only two games, and we shall see.
You're right, it is just the Rangers. Comment by Holik:
"Montreal played just good enough to beat us. They didn't play great and neither did we. I don't know what that says about them or us". Pretty accurate assessment if you ask me.

Hossa has the tools and if he gets a little grit he will be a good 2nd or 3rd liner. If he gets serious grit in his jock he will be our first liner. He has the size plus very good skating and very good shot. Also his vision is very good.
When I saw him, I liked his hockey attributes, "toolbelt" if you prefer, but I always critisized him for lack of second effort and grit. If he has stepped this up then he is a keeper. What concerned me was that we did not have another Poulin in the making. Poulin was drafted fairly high and had ALL the tools but never had the grit and desire.
Holik always speaks his mind.

To follow up a point Ged made, Breezer and Traverse actually played the most minutes of the dmen, 'tho Markov was only a few seconds behind Traverse. The impression of them not playing much must be because they didn't make too many mistakes tonight, which for them is a good thing. Let Markov and Hainsey (when he starts to play regularly) be the guys who make the impressions.

Cause when I look at MArcel, I see Marrian..BUT BIGGER Yesterday, we saw him stay with his man, used his stick on other people to get the puck from them... He won't knock you off the puck with a bodycheck but he is fast with his stick and strong on his skates. That's all you need to get takeovers. Without saying he is as good or ever will be..but he sure has all the tools... I think the kid has more "GRIT" than his older bro...now, is Marrian 1st line material.. That's what I tought

I loved seeing that Claude Lemieux wannabe Barnaby get clocked. It was a great hit. Even the Guys on the MSG network said Barnaby got shellacked. They showed Barnaby skating toward the bench after the hit and he stumbled and his eyes were wattery and he was blinking alot. Great hit by Bulis and it was a clean hit.
Team played great, Hossa and Markov rock, even Dykhuis did something right.

Note the icetime for Larry and Curly. My mistake. I guess I'm just used to seeing them skate cheek first.

That's what I tought The difference between Marian and Marcel is simple: Marian has that extra gear. That's how he scores 50% of his goals by blowing by slow defenceman and coming in all alone on goal. I know, I watcch alot of Sens game on TV and Marian is just unreal when he has that extra gear going. Marcel just doesn't have that ''extra'' gear. Talent wise and size wise they are pretty close IMO. But Just not speed wise. BTW, Grit= Toronto Maple Leafs

I thought... Dirt= Toronto Maple Leafs ;D There is another word for dirt that I would have used...but it probably would have been censored. And Marc, it's true that Marian is a fast player, but then again, it's easy to blow past a defenseman when he's on his a$$ ...right Breezy!!! ;D
