The Hamilton Bulldogs opened their week-long three-game road trip with a 3-1 win over the Phantoms last night at the First Union Spectrum in Philadelphia.
With the win, the Bulldogs sweep their two-game series with the Phantoms this year and move to within a point of first place in the AHL's Canadian Division.
Hamilton trails first-place Manitoba by a point. The Moose were idle yesterday.
But the Bulldogs have four games in hand.
Fernando Pisani, Jason Ward and Benoit Gratton scored for the Bulldogs and defenceman Mike Komisarek assisted on all three goals.
After a scoreless first period, Pisani banged Komisarek's rebound past Philadelphia goaltender Neil Little at 4:15 of the second to gave Hamilton a 1-0 lead.
Ward made it 2-0 with his fifth of the year while the Bulldogs had a two-man advantage at 2:48 of the third.
Gratton scored his sixth of the campaign at 12:58 to give Bulldogs a 3-0 lead.
Mark Greig scored his 10th of the season to break Ty Conklin's shutout bid at 17:03.
"We did the right things," said Bulldogs' coach Claude Julien. "Against this team you have to get the puck in deep because they really thrive on neutral zone turnovers. They're really good at it, and we made sure to limit those.
"Our power play was good and it got us two goals. Our penalty kill was really good as well."
The Bulldogs bused to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton right after the game.
They'll play the Penguins Wednesday at 7 p.m. then move on to Albany to open a home-and-home series with the River Rats.
They play in Albany Friday night and then host the River Rats Saturday at Copps. Both games are 7 p.m. starts.
The Bulldogs close out the week in Rochester Sunday at 6 p.m.
All games can be heard on 820 CHAM.
The Bulldogs had all three of the players they received from Montreal on Saturday dressed for the game and two of them played.
Forward Mike Ribeiro and defenceman Ron Hainsey played and goaltender Mathieu Garon was dressed as Conklin's backup.
Ribeiro played, primarily, on a line with Adam Dewan and Jozef Balej. Hainsey was paired with Bobby Allen.
