I am not starting this rumour, merely seeking reaction/comments to what I saw. A poster on the sportsnet forum post an unsubstantiated rumour (friend of a friend spoke to Gainey - yeah right) that had Rivet and 3rd rounder going to Dallas for Brendan Morrow. What do people think?

...that it is really not enough to land Morrow... Those are the toughest one to get... still young yet somewhat 'proven', cheap, physical and the potential to get better. If Dallas was deep on the farm with top prospects ready to take his place, maybe he could be on the block... but I don't think that's the case...

That would be great, then we would have a marvelous worm to dangle and catch Carbonneau (Morrow = carbo's daughter boyfriend) Unfortunately, the offer is not enough and even if the offer was good, Dallas wouldn't trade Morrow unless we overpay badly.

I'd love to see Morrow in a habs uniform, but i don't think its happening, unless as was stated above we over pay badly, Rivet is not enough to land him

Well, I usually don't poke my neck in these trade rumors, but this is an exception. I have thought about this one for several days and I dont see it happening. Morrow of their few younger players, and he is going to be their future PF. No doubt about that. Dallas has been the center of rumors regarding having overcommitted themselves financially since the summer: They have tried to move Turgeon and Guerin, but there are no takers.
Whatever we could offer them in return, it is hard to see how it would get them over the top. Barnes is a Koivu type player, etc, etc: They are hurting on defense, but might be willing to wait it out and give a young guy some experience. If I was in their position, I would not want Rivet. He doesn't do anything to help us, I'm sure they know he will just take up a roster spot.
To do this trade MTL would also likely be commiting to a more immediate future than most of us expect, not to mention taking on more payroll.
So, as much as I would like to think that Guerin and Morrow will line up zith Koivu soon, I don't see it. Gainey knows the situation there better than I do. I could see him profiting alot from a deal with Dallas, but we shall see.
