BACK ON TOPIC..... Hs anyone watched Dexter? Is it mme or is that program sick? I don't mind red colored water passing off as blood but this series is taking it to entire new and sick level. In case anyone doesn't know about this series, it's a aboud a serial killer who takes it upon himself to meter out deprave, hacksaw justice. ~~~~~~~~~~~ On a lighter note.... Superman series and Heroes are decent science fiction fodder. Battlestar Galactica is a bit "deeper". Mind you calling any tv series "deep" is redefining shallow. I saw episode 1 of Dexter during a free preview weekend. I don't think he's a serial killer but a pychopath who uses his powers for "good" instead of evil. I thought it was an interesting concept but I agree with your take. It was pretty depraved stuff.

I've been enjoying Veronica Mars, Grey's Anatomy, Heroes, Dr Who, Galacatica, Shark and Jericho, Lost too though they're losing me, Close to Home, I loved the Sopranos, I've got all of Rome and will start watching it soon enough, same for Torchwood.
I'm waiting to see if the 3 first episodes of Smith will lead to anything.
But sicne Christmas I've just been catching up on Alias, though I'm not sure to make it through season 2.
I love Dexter. He seems like such a cool guy, yet he's a total psychopath who likes killing people.
Trailer Park Boys - watched 1 episode and didn't enjoy it.
My name is Earl is perfect to watch during dinner - 22 minutes is just the time it takes me to munch something down.

My better half thinks that it's against God's rules if one wants to watch tv while eating. I have to endure torture if I am home late and want to watch the Hab's play while eating. Her response is "PVR it". I want my sports live otherwise there is no use watching it. I highly recommend anyone who has a VCR to scrap it and get a SYMPHONIC DVD+80GB HDD PVR at WalCrap. They are $120 at Walcrap and $100 at this site... www.factorydirect.ca/catalog/product_search.phpWe have three of them and it works out great. One hour programs are 40 minute tops. Program like 24 is 35 minutes after cleaning up all the pre and post junk.

Can they play DivX files downloaded off the net ? That's the key criteria for me. I am a bit confused with all the formats. I think it can but have not tried it yet. It plays what a regular DVD player plays. It will NOT record DVD's but I don't care. As for that, I think you are better off getting a TV-out card for 50 bucks rather then taking the time to burn it and THEN watch it. I tried to find a DVD player that can play avi, mgep and all that, no success and in the end, not worth it. One thing I forgot to mention..... A PVR can "chase" a program. In other words, you can set it up to record a program, start watchin it ten minutes later and then chase it. By eliminating commercials, you land up saving time. That is why we have multiple units. We can chase one program while recording two others. I also use it for hockey but not for more then one period. The temptetion to peak at the score is so great that it ruins it.

A buddy recommended a 69$ LG unit, and it's done the job 99% of the time. The advantage over a TV-out card is that I burn stuff anyhow to store and share it, and this way I can be having computer issues and my TV still works. But practically, I sometimes just burn odds and ends I want to watch NOW rather than wait for a full DVDs worth.

My name is Earl is perfect to watch during dinner - 22 minutes is just the time it takes me to munch something down. I can't say I like My Name is Earl, it just doesn't appeal to me at all. Perhaps I'm just too young to grasp the alleged humour in it. On the other hand, I absolutely love US version of The Office. Outrageously funny, no laugh track, fairly mature... what's not to like?

No, you're not too young. I thought that the premise was promising but it didn't do it for me. As I watch little TV it has to be mostly entertaining. My Name is Earl was just too self-depreciating for me. I gave it 2 episodes, though -- which is one more than Little Mosque got. Times change. I thought that Quantum Leap was a great show, and watched it as often as I could years past. I mentioned it one day and next thing I know I have three seasons worth on DVD (Merry Christmas, Dad; smiles all around). Now I'm slogging through them. Boy some of hte episodes are hokey!

Random TV Questions:
* If Jack Bauer is so smart, always knowing who is telling the truth, who is lying, the best way to save the world, etc, etc, how come he is so lousy at determining who is good and bad in his own life? His first wife was like, the most evil woman in the world, his brother appears to be number two on that list, and now his dad may or may not be terrorist. And, to boot, his mentor when he was in training to be a counter-terrorist also turned out to be a lunatic. How many psychopaths can one run into in one lifetime? No wonder Jack is a heroin addict.
* If “love makes little things grow” as they say on Clifford the Big Red Dog, does that mean George Shrinks parents don’t love him? And what’s up with George’s dad? Is he a pot-head or what?? Just what kind of shows are they putting on PBS these days anyways?? Freaking liberal media.
* Speaking of lousy messages to be sending to kids, what’s up with Grover? Is he thin, or what? I mean, like anorexia/chemotherapy thin. Is he okay? I remember when Mr Hooper died, with no warning whatsoever, and I would hate to see that happen again. Let us know Sesame Street Nazis! Let us know!
* Anybody else catch that Oprah Winfrey show where they had the voice of Elmo on? Kevin Clash? (I watch them all). He’s like, this huge black guy, football offensive lineman type. Interestingly, perhaps sadly, he could not give a real interview, sat there with Elmo on his lap, and spoke to Oprah in his Elmo voice the whole time. I think he has issues. I shudder to think what he and his wife do late at night, in the sanctity of their boudoir.
* Okay, so Lost decides to take a four month hiatus. Huh? What creative genius thought that plan up?? Can we say “cancellation is in your future?”
* I don’t get Coronation Place. I mean, I get it, it’s on CBC, but like, I don’t get it. What is the matter with British people anyways? Mind you, I don’t get “reality” shows either. I may not be as old as some of the people on this board, but my “reality” doesn’t look anything like their reality. I have never, ever, had to eat a cow’s brain to win immunity, from anything. Ever.
* The best TV show I ever saw was Homicide: Life on the Street. First season only. Then it got too mainstream. Sort of like that Peter Horton show, the title of which I can’t remember, in which this ex-cop dies, goes to Hell, and then gets sent back to Earth to chase down a bunch of evil souls that escaped from Hell. The first season of that show was pretty good too. Then, it too went mainstream in an effort to attract more viewers. Stupid viewers.
Anybody have any answers?

Started watching Weeds recently after a friend recommended it. First rate cast. I liked it when they decided to do the shows opening theme in French for one episode. Very quirky and quite funny...

I saw most of the first season and really liked it, but haven't watched it since because I find it too hard to watch things at whatever time they happen to be on (I don't have a PVR) and I like to see episodes in the correct order.... Maybe I'll get it on DVD. How I Met Your Mother is really funny and fun. It's the only weekly show I usually make time to watch.

I refer to the series as "foreign anthropology" since Neptune is such an alien place to me. Haven't heard of HIMYM until your mention of it. I'll have to look it up. My TV viewing is mostly done via DVDs, largely based on recommendations.

I'm completely addicted to "The Sopranos", "The Office - American version" and "Entourage". I'll pretty much schedule my life around these shows and own all the DVD's.
I'm also into "Lost" and "E.R.", but to a lesser extent.
That's about it.

She was an RN for almost 50 years and said House reminded her of a few doctors she'd worked with in her time. Me enjoy a show written around a know-it-all, acerbic, egocentric lead character? Go figure. I've been catching Arrested Development reruns on CBC around suppertime here in Toronto. I like it well enough that I'm going to begin at the beginning via DVD. The show spins dysfunctional family behaviour to new latitudes. Loved Jeffrey Tambour since the late lamented Garry Shandling Show.

When I first saw Deadwood, I was blown away. It had been a couple of years since I had the movie channel and was unaccustomed to hear wall to wall swearing. And then some of the scens...YIKES! I did enjoy it though. I Just started watching this & I share your opinion. It's excellent. My library has seasons 1 & 2 and I am now part way through season one.

Just watched the series finale of "Rome." Two seasons and one of the best shows for TV I've ever seen.
Guess it was just too expensive to maintain. Too bad it ended tonight.
Cheers.

Agreed. A shame it had to end. The acting, attention to detail, and overall very high production quality made it one of the best shows I've seen on television. I have to admit I had completely tuned out TV until Deadwood and Rome came along. It shows good television is possible with the proper effort. I hope HBO keeps up the good work.
Meanwhile, can't wait for the forthcoming "Who wants to marry an emotionally distraught astronaut?" on Fox. It's inevitable.

Is it just me, or has this year's season of Lost totally revitalized the show? Man, last night's episode with Sawyer and Locke's dad... when Locke's dad ripped up Sawyer's letter... geez, that was powerful stuff.
Or so I thought, anyways.

Don't know anything about it. Is it an HBO series? Saw "The Sopranos" the other night. I'm not sure how the series will end but I'm hoping the pace picks up a tad. Still have to watch "Deadwood" too. Too many good comments surrounding that series. Cheers.

Like forgetting to put a roll of toilet paper on the holder and wondering if there is a roll behind you while you are gripped in the throws of.... I stopped watching it last year and now I am watching it again, for the wrong reasons. How silly and inane can one make the plot and still sell it? I hope this show goes down in flames....and a lesson to other producers of "throw a dart" story board. Have you ever seen the Prisoner? With Patrick McGoohan? I thought lost would learn from that but alas, not even a shadow of it. It's about keeping the show alive....and milking the last copper penny.
