Maybe a little Bob Gainey influence? After a few years of NCAA top picks and a lot more Euros, this is a change for sure.

We just picked up some Finnish d'man at #217, a pick from Washington. So we must have swapped 4th rounders and picked this 7th rounder up as well.

We took Washington's 7 rounder. A 6 foot 1 inch Finish defender that's lefthanded. I can't spell his name. Good luck guys trying to find info on him.

Korpikari... 154th among euro skaters at mid-season. So he moved up to #61 at final rankings, seems to be a trend that our scouting staff are honing in on guys making big moves during the year.

Yessir, that's been the hallmark of our drafting since Savard came aboard: selecting players who have shown steady, if not necessarily spectacular, improvement during their junior career. Skill + work.

He also played 25 games in their Junior A league. Don't know how it compares to our junior leagues (thanks to the links from Hockey's Future)

As for the player moves, seems like Chow and Dykhuis will be bought out...
I see us trading brisebois for like a 3rd liner in a few days...

Halak was the 4th ranked Euro goalie at final CSS rankings, so a pretty safe pick for #271st overall.

Another goalie? Is it because we are planning to trade one in the near future? But he was highly rated among european goalies. Rather small but could turn out the same size as Theodore- 5,11 and 180- in a few years.

Bonneau had 261 penalty minutes last year with the Rocket. Is that Uber-goon material yet?

Bonneau had 261 penalty minutes last year with the Rocket. Is that Uber-goon material yet? Can he play hockey though? If he can hold his own on a 4th line and chip in with some pts every so often, then he was a good pickup. If he's just paid to fight, then forget it.

I don't like wasting a pick on a junior goon. They are so easy to get but there are so many europeans skaters that are "underscouted". I prefer a sleeper pick like Korneev than to select a guy whose best upside is to play 3 minutes per game, 27 games per year at the NHL level.

Halak: 2.26, .929 in 2002-03. Only played 9 games, though.

This draft had 10 very good players and 10 good players. We are now at the bottom of the barrel. I almost expect to hear my name called. We are into Mr. Irrelevant territory. I'm not holding my breath to hear a Gretzky called.

Drafting by committee. (just trying to stir up some controversy in a boring round where we don't have a pick and it doesn't matter much. In summation: I really like Kostsitsyn, Urquhart is good, Byrne is big and Locke is a steal at 113th. Overall a very good job, even if we didn't trade up to get Bernier. We can't have everything, there are 29 other teams. Rating "A-".

A fairly good draft. I'm dissapointed in the Urquhart pick because they were better players left like Dan Fritsche, Patrick O'Sullivan and Josh Henessy.
Nathan Paetsch would have been a good pickup in the 5th or 6th round because he'd be ready to step in at Hamilton right away and he has decent potential. Although it is very surprising that he slipped all the way to the 7th round.

I'm trilled! Finally some offensive talent! Picking Kasts and Locke is exactly what I wanted. I hope we'll see both these guys play in the Hull prospect tournament in Sept.
I can't wait to see how these guys develop. I'm sure there will be a few surprises in the late rounds. We'll know in a few years...
