as far as Kyle Beach goes, he's a loose cannon with a lot of skill, but i don't get the impression that mr. gainey would ever want a guy like that if he can get a comparable even tempered player instead. I didn't know that about him being a loose cannon - if that's the case then you're probably right that Gainey wouldn't go out of his way to get him. Admittedly, my knowledge of any of these guys doesn't extend beyond their CSB rankings and the short blurbs written about them. I was just going through the top 60 looking for guys that like the Habs and fill our needs. Along those lines, Paquette looks like another interesting pick. I hope that they lay off the Minnesota picks this year. Let's wait and see how these other Minnesota picks turn out before investing any more. I'd also like to draft more Canadian content. Watching the world championships it occurred to me that it's been a while since we've had a key contributor on the international stage with Canada (from a forward or D man).

yeah i've seen kyle play quite a few times against the giants, he's a loose cannon, can get off his game easily, has a bad temper. he has a lot of skill, but for some reason when i watch him i think that he's older than he is, so i think maybe he matured sooner than other kids his age and therefore won't continue to improve at the same pace. but that's just a shot in the dark while watching him play. i agree about canadian content, but don't get me started! i can only chat about prospects that i've seen live, and kyle beach for some reason didn't overly impress me. unfortunately he isn't in the giants division so i only have seen him 3-4 times, and only watched him closely this past season. he had a meltdown or two every single game.

I'd be more interested in Jared Staal, to be honest with you... Or not... From Kyle Woodlief: We at Redline are not big fans of Jared Staal for one very simple reason: he can’t skate. Having said that, he did pick up a half step as this season progressed and perhaps as he acquires more leg strength this facet of his game will come along. But for now, we don’t like him nearly as much as his brothers. We’ve got him ranked as a 4th rounder, though I suspect that he will get taken in the second round based on his bloodline. His upside might be that of a poor man’s Guillaume Latendresse, unless he improves the skating issue.

JJ, I just saw him live in one game this year, the first game of the Doyle Cup between Camrose and Penticton. I went there to watch Colborne, Dalpe and MacWilliam but came away noticing Hextall as well. He is small, fast, decent skill and a real pest. He seemed to be at the centre of the play every time he was on the ice. I think he was their Captain as well, so obviously has some leadership capabilities. Not the biggest guy, but the kind of players good teams need to win. Since we don't have any picks in the 5th and 6th rounds, I would guess he would be an option in the 7th round as there are likely BPA's around in the first four rounds for sure. He would be a great option with our 7th round pick IMO.

He said "even though he is only 5'10" h plays much bigger". He said "reminds him a lot of Shane Corson out there, a guy you hate to have to face, but one that you love to have on your side". He also 20 years old according to the BCHL website so he may go right to the AHL.

I watched the last two games of the Memorial Cup and I was very impressed with the overall skill level of the Kitchener Rangers. Their loss to Spokane reminded me of Hab's vs Flyers. Maybe they used up all their luck against Belleville. I thought Alvezedo (I know he is already drafted and only 5'10") was outstanding and quick. A smart Locke with foot speed. I'm waiting for Tavares in 2009. It's not like we don't have a lot of young guys ready to step in to fill the gaps. We had Ryder sitting in the press box waiting for an opening and kids from Russia waiting to fill other perceived holes. Anything short of a top 5 pick will have to get in line behind the Mr. Minnesotas to wait for a slot to open in Hamilton, not Montreal.

I don't want to draft top 5 for a very long time, unless of course we somehow manage to trade up, or another league-wide lottery like back in the Crosby Draft.

IMO Filatov is the true Elite superstar of 2008.
I think Stamkos is really on par with Boedker, Hodgson and Ennis.
My top 10 forwards for 2008 are:
1 Filatov 2 Stamkos 3 Hodgson 4 Boedker 5 Ennis 6 Bailey 7 Wilson 8 Deschamps 9 Toews 10 Eberle
HM: Tedenby, Colborne, Trivino, Wahl, Gustafsson
