1st pick- Andrei Kostitsyn 2nd pick- Patrick O'Sullivan 3rd pick- Cory Loche I know it is easy for me to judge players I have never seen based on what I read and their stats but our two second picks seen weak to me. I hope AS knows something I don't.

Paetsch is an interesting possibility. He's played on the Nat team a couple of times. However, this past season has to be considered a disappointment stats-wise.

THere is alot more to these guys than their stats.
I think Kastsitsyn was a brilliant pick at #10. If Kyle Woodlief is to be believed, this kid is the real deal and is probably the forward with the biggest upside we've had since Saku Koivu. He's got tremendous skills, is a great skater and a hard worker...i love this pick, especially with the 3 d-men gone.
I can't say that i'm overly excited by our 2nd and 3rd round picks, but at this point i'm willing to give AS and his staff the benefit of the doubt. Both guys have pretty decent size, with Urquhart being the skilled guy and Lapierre being the role player type. I would have prefered we swing a deal to get Anthony Stewart though....that kid is an absolute monster!
As for O'Sullivan and Locke, well neither guy is very high on my list. O'Sullivan obviously flunked his interviews big time to see that great a fall. The kid has top 10 talent, so for him to fall to the middle of the 2nd round has to tell you something about what's between the ears. I know he had a tough upbringing...i feel for him, but i've got to believe there was a legit reason for his fall on draft day. Locke's a guy i would probably take a chance on in the 4th round, but picking him in the 2nd would have been too early.
Finally, i don't know jack about our 3rd round pick, O'Byrne other than the fact that he was ranked 116th by CSB and that he's 6'5" 210. Does he play mean, or is he another Andrew Archer type?

I was really hoping that AS could convert those 2 second round picks into a 1st rounder that could have netted a better single player, much like NJ did to get Parise. That particular deal would have been tough for Montreal because they didn't have a pick just a little worse than Edmonton's, like NJ did. Lucky Lou. If not for that tampering bit, he wouldn't have been able to pull it off. Lowe would not have gone for the 30th pick, since I think the Oilers had set their sights on Pouliot who was available at 21, but would not have been at 30. Thank goodness the Devils get no more benefit from that deal. Now we'll see how good Conte is without the additional picks. I still remember Barry Fraser being so highly thought of with the Oilers in the late 70's early 80's when he picked up Messier, Anderson, Kurri, Coffey and Fuhr. After that the well kind of dried up. The key guys on NJ through their cup runs have been their high draft choices, with Brodeur, Stevens and Niedermayer leading the pack.
I'm sure hoping that Kastsitsyn becomes the go to guy we need. But wouldn't it have been nice to have Parise as well? Would you have given up Urquhart, Lapierrre and say Hossa for him?

I feel that with our 2 2nd round picks we didn't address any real needs, especially for a power forward. We may end up with more softies without heart and bad defensive play. I hope they prove me wrong in the years to come.
