30 Hab Wannabees will be strutting and skating their stuff in front of the brass next week starting on Monday afternoon. 4 of the 5 picks from last month and recent addition Greg Pateryn will be in attendance. There are a number of tryouts as well.
Robert Mayer is the Swiss junior goalie and a surprise not to be drafted last month. The Testwuide brothers are big boys, with the elder being quite the tough nut and team captain at Denver this fall, and the younger being a big power forward who will wear the "A" for the competition at Colorado College. Monahan is a 20 year old in the Q and Boisvert is from Quebec, is only 5'9" and plays in the NCAA currently. The final tryout is a real puzzle. The kid is a goalie from a Junior B league in Ottawa and he is a 1991 born, so he will be draft eligible next year. Timmins' next door neighbour perhaps, or maybe the Habs are tipping their hat at one of their possible picks next summer.
The two Testwuide brothers are likely being scouted as possible ECHL additions this fall as they would add some good size to the farm. That is how the Habs got Desharnais and Beauregard to AHL contracts last season and helped the Cyclones win the Kelly Cup this year. Both will be on hand to hopefully make the jump to the Hammer this fall.
Trunev is not there, and no word on why. It could be as simple as the visa issue that often is hard to accommodate between late June and early July in some countries. Torp is the only Euro there after missing the entire season due to injury. It will be interesting to see how it impacts his abilities against his peers. I also read that Mathieu Bolduc, a 19 year old Dman from the Q who won the Kevin-Lowe award for best defensive defenceman in the Q last season will be on hand at the rookie camp this fall. I half expected he might be in town next week too, but apparently not.
As I find first hand reports on the camp I will post them on this thread to keep folks current on the goings on with our youngest of prospects.

Over at HF Kostitsyn1489 posted the following:
Ok I,ll start from the end.
After the practice i meet the players near the bus, well a few, got my jersey signed by a good bnch and when i knew who the guy was i tried to get some info from them
Fortier is happy they got the mem cup in 09 and he cant wait for next season to start!
Weber said this past season was his best since he started playing hockey and he hopes to do well as a rookie in AHL. He was nice, i told him im the guy from Fanatique.ca that got an interview with him and he talked to me a bit while signing other guys autograph. Hopefully i can get an interview with him before the end of the camp.
I looked Subban enter the Bus and he smiled at me for like 3 secs that was pretty funny, i wanted him to come sign autograph, but he didnt, hopefully another day i go he'll.
Conboy looked to be a really nice guy, prolly the guy that spent the most time with the Fans after the practice.
Maxwell, i told him i got an interview with him so he kinda recongnize me and talks to me a bit more like Weber did, but he didnt seem the give a damn and he just signed my jersey and went in the bus lol
So on the ice now
I didnt look at goalie at all, missian was at the other end of the ice too so it didnt help.
So the forwards and defencemen were split in 2. The first half d-man did some skating and then some shooting and on the other ice forward were doing power skating from what i saw, but i wa smostly at the other ice. Then for 2nd half Forward did skating and shooting while d-man did power skating.
So
I'll start with D-man
Monahan Forward i know, but he was with the d-man today, liked his skating, looks to be fast and agile, on balance drills he ad a bit more problem tho. And for the pass and shots he wasnt too good, especially his shots looked really weak, but early on with the skating he surprised me.
Subban, he was good in every drills, lots of skills, i think he's the guy that scored the most goals in shooting drills.
Weber started slowly in skating drills, not that he isnt able too, but he wasnt trying it seems, but when he's got the puck he was firing bullets! He wristshoted on the post once and it really was noisy. Good shots, but too many posts today. It wasnt his best day i beleive, he can do much better in skating drills i think.
McDonagh, didnt see him much looked like he was always on the far side of the rink, unlike Weber and Subban that ive seen more.
Fischer, didnt see him too much, but more then McDonagh, early on his shot really was bad, no power or accuracy, but as it went on he got some good shot, "Top titty" as he would say.
Paquet, didnt see him at all.
Kishel and Stejkal were average, they have no shot at all.
Peteryn, as i said earlier he was really good. He really made me notice him. Got the kind of day i wouldve expected someone like McDonagh to have. Good shots, used the slapper quite a bit and it worked for him well. He was pretty good as well in the skating drills, good balance and agility.
Torp got one hell of a shot. I knew he was good offensively, but damn can he shoot the puck! He needs to work on accuracy from what i saw, but his wrist shot has got power for sure.
Testwuide a bit like Kishel and Stejkal, but his shot isnt too bad.
Forward
Beauregard, i looked at my list of players and he's first, but i totally didnt see him at all there.
Boisvert average, doubts he gets a contract
Conboy a bit of trouble with skating, but he's better then i thought with the puck. He looks big out there and his shot is pretty good, better then expected.
Desharnais, i was a bit disapointed i thought he could be a guy that would do good in a day like this, but his skating didnt wow me and same for his shot.
Patrick Johnson pretty good skater, but didnt notice him too much his shot is average.
Fortier another guy i didnt notice much. He was always on the far side of the rink as well so it didnt help, but skated well from what i saw
Danny Kristo, you'll love this guy. A mini Paccioretty I beleive, not sure he's got the same potential, buthes got a good shots and did very well in skating drills. Prolly the 2nd best forward today behind Pac
Max Pacioretty, did great in all area really, got by far the best shot from the Forwards, scored lots of goal post in neither goaltender couldnt do much against him.
Maxwell did very good in skating drills very agile and in the shooting drills he was pretty effective as well despite being a playmaker first. One of the good players today.
Qualier, the guy beside me really was laughing at him and i wont blame him. His shots really was unacurate especially early on, at some point he says, look it's Qualier he's gonna shot on the clock(There's a clock quite a bit beside the net) and Qualier actually shot in that area. Then later on he's got a few goals on good shot. He didnt wow me at all today, lots of guys did better.
Russell, if you know how to get a guy taller please do it for him. He seriously has one hell of a shot. I remember near the end all the guys were around the goalie, the guy in front was shooting and other could take rebound and score. If there was a goal the shooter stayed there if not it was anothe guy turns. Most missed in the first time or scored one, but he scored like 7 in a row and not from rebound. Love his shot, really good skating, just lack of frame.
JT Wyman, did very good a bit like Kristo, similar skill set a mini Pacci as well they all look the same really in those drills.
And to finish prolly the guy i was the most disapointed by, Ryan White. I know skating drills arent the best for him, but he was worse then Conboy. Really slow in agility and balance Drills. Once he got the puck he was a bit better, scored a few goals, but i wasnt impressed at all. It's not the White i saw during the WHL playoffs.
Hope you enjoy guys.

A report from KaTaKlIsM at HF at the development camp:
Ok today was wrister and slap shot drill on rink one and skating drills (speed) on rink 2. I didn’t focus on the speed drills on rink 2 because it was hard to see the results thus less interesting. I’ll start with the goalies. MISSIAAEN: doesn’t look bad but not great either... as I expected, he isn’t very fluid.. but he’s big. Like... very tall. MAYER: looks better than MISSIAEN. Certainly not as tall but so much more fluid in his lateral movements. QUATTROCCHI: don’t know where that guy come from ( CJHL), but it was obvious that he wasn’t at the same level than the other two. He looked small out there.
Ok so now i will focus on shots... so it doesn’t mean much but still! Just to be clear, if I say that somebody’s slap shot sucks, it doesn’t mean he’s a bad player overall...
DEFENSE: PATHERYNk, at first I was like, who’s that big, strong guy? It’s our new prospect! For a 18yo, he’s so mature physically! 6’02, 223lbs! WOW! He’s got a very good wrister and slap shot! Seriously i’ve been really impressed by the kid. Fischer looks miles away from him in terms of development! The only thing is I dunno what his defensive play looks like. SUBBAN: looks like subban... same good wrist shot and slap shot... Im pretty sure he improved his overall defensive play but couldn’t see that by looking at shots.. BOISVERT: was the fastest of MCDO, fischer, carle, kishel in the skating drills. He was ok in the shots. CARLE: looks pretty NHL ready to me. Very nice shots, nice size. I can see him see nhl time next year. KISHEL: ok... that guy is so under developed... he looks small and weak out there. TORP: overall looks good... he was looking very good while taking shots in movement.. FISCHER: looks the same as last year... needs to add some meat... his shots was ok overall. He wasn’t able to lift the puck while slapping. he's very far from mtl.... I saw why he diddnt get a lot of goals last years.. Paquet: looks very good overall and im sure he’s ready for some pro hockey MCDONAGH: i dunno... he has a good size, im sure he’s really good on defense and he also has a good shot... but for a first round pick maybe I was expecting more... Overall, shots by defense were way more accurate than those from the forwards. OFFENSE QUAILER: heavy wrister a bit inaccurate, his slap shot was ok. TROTTER: was chitchatting with white. Inaccurate shots, he looks ok in movement.looks kinda weak for an AHL player. Need to add muscle. WHITE: his slap was way more accurate than his wrister. RUSSEL: Weak slap shot, nice wrist shot, many top corners but missed a few. PACCIORETTY: wow, very nice shot, very nice in movement... he really stands out DESHARNAIS: didn’t impress with his shot but im sure he’s a very skilled player. WYMAN: has a nice slap shot and looks very good in movement. MAXWELL: his wirst shot was very accurate compare to others. His slap was ok but I wasn’t expecting that it would be great anyway. CONBOY: has a heavy wrist shot like paccioretty. He has a good slap but not has hard as paccioretty’s JOHNSON: for a last draft pick, he looks good. He has a good wrist and slap shot. KRISTO: he has an accurate wrister but a weak and inaccurate slap shot. He looks like he’s fast on his skates. But nothing exceptional.
as well as whitespy's report:
Just came back a while ago and was pretty happy I went. Not many people and it was easy to focus on individual players. I'll start with the goalies as the last poster did.
MISSIAAEN: to me he looks like he's someone who got by on size and natural instincts. It seems like all the drills were new to him and every little mistake was very visible. I thought I might have been being a little hard on him but Rollie came in and started to knit pick like I was and telling him to tighten up, move quicker, move his shoulders up and take up more room (like he's capable of on size alone). Overall with his instincts, size, Rollies coaching and some gym work, I think he could be a REALLY good goalie.
MAYER: looks really good out there. He's VERY quick and agile, he's got good lateral movement, could even move across in the splits with ease, good rebound control and from the few times he touched the puck, it looks like he can handle it pretty well. Overall he's a little shorter but he reminds me of Garon.
QUATTROCCHI: Looked pretty small out there but he was average across the board I thought. I would have like to see a little more quickness out of him considering his size, but he did ok.
DEFENSE
PATHERYN, Very impressive! I can't beleive he went in the fifth... forget that, I can't believe we got him AND a second of Grabs. Great shot (wrister and slap), skates well and he's a very good size for his age. I can't wait to see more of him in team drills and play.
SUBBAN: Still looks great out there skill wise. His shot was pretty good but I believe they spoke to him about where he releases from (on his blade) and it looked like they think he can have an even and more accurate shot from what I can see him saying.
CARLE: Shots (wrist and slap) look to be one of the best out of the defencemen and his skating is much better than last year but still has room for improvement.
KISHEL: Has much catching up to do.
TORP: Another guy with a GREAT shot and he skates well too. His shots in movement are what caught my eye. I think he has a mean streak to him as well. If that's the case I would look for him to be one of the big sleepers as far as defencemen are concerned.
FISCHER: I don't know why people have a problem with this guy... I'm VERY excited to see this guy in a few years. He's going to be the complete package. He's 6.03, just under 200lbs and can skate VERY well. Not clumsy for someone that size AT ALL (O'byrne at times) and he's still going to fill out a little more. His shot was ok and could use some work. Overall I firmly believe this kid has all the tools to be a top 4.
MCDONAGH: He looks board. I was dissapointed with his effort today. Maybe he's tired or sick but he looked very average.
OFFENSE
QUAILER: Huge wrister, but he wasn't wearing shoulder pads and that could have had something to do with it, otherwise slapper was good.
TROTTER: Very nice shot for someone his size. Both his wrist shot and slap shot were accurate and quite powerful someone his size. I really hope his size doesn't affect his futur, or maybe he can put on a few because I really feel this kid has some great offensize upside. I also noticed that he seemed to calm a few of the players down on the ice, joking around with White and Maxwell.
WHITE: Can see this kid being a VERY good gritty player for the 3/4rth line.
RUSSEL: I really don't see this guy going any farther than the dogs.
PACCIORETTY: I can not believe how good he looks out there. VERY strong and accurate shot and I believe he only missed the net twice when he was on the viewing side and one was a post! Very strong on his skates and just stands out overall. I even caught him messing around with the puck a couple of times and he was taking one handed bank hand shots against the boards and was lifting the puck and getting good weight behind the shots with ease..
DESHARNAIS: Reminds me a lot of a St.Louis without the heavy shot. Hopefully the season he had in Cincinnati can transfer to the AHL.
WYMAN: Great shot, a little inaccurate. He's a big kid at 6.02 and 205lbs and can skate pretty well. I can really see him as a sleeper in our forward crop.
CONBOY: Great shot like and like White looks like he'll be a great gritty 3rd or 4rth liner.
JOHNSON: I was very surprised at his overall skill for a 7th rounder. Nice shot both slapper and wrister and he's pretty quick too. He looked ready to give himself a chance even though others might not be.. I would really like to see him spend the summer in the gym.
KRISTO: He has a good overall technique in his shot and can skate effortlessly like the wind. Really reminds me of Mike Fisher like someone over at TSN had compared him to.
I'm intrigued about this Patheryn fellow we obtained in the Grabovski deal.

Dr_Hook over at HF was there today and had this to say:
I was there today. The practice sucked major balls though... I left 20 mins before the end.
On the ice where there are seats, the forward spent the 1st hour essentially working on wristers and snap shots (firing in empty cages, as the goalies where working with the coaches in another part of the ice) In one drill, the player had to receive a hard pass, kindda pull-deke the puck to himself under a prop thinggy (puck under it , stick over it) then quickly shoot it hard at the net. In the other drill, the players were stationnary at imaginary hash marks and after an exchange of passes they had to execute a snap-shot one-timer with a soft pass coming from behind them. Boring as hell to watch. Here are some impressions :
* MaxPac is head and shoulders above everybody else (frwd wise)! He gets rid of the puck in no-time and was consistantly rippin it where mamma hides the cookies ! Great Aim ! Keeping in the theme of yesterday, I too was almost coming out of my shorts with excitement ! Looks like a hockey player, skates like a power-forward, was intense and purposeful during the drills. Me think this young man is gonna be a serious force with the Habitants * Wyman looks to have a pretty decent shot too ; in one of his sequences he missed the net altogether like 7 times in a row (hard shots though) but the next time around, he was burying them with precision and authority ! Looked good out there. I can't wait to see him on TV in a real game with the Dogs (or even better in a Habs pre-season) * Fortier showed no hands to speak of and his shots looked erratic and soft. Not impressed by him in those drills. * Conboy wasn't too smooth ; he could barely get the puck to himself without slapping around the device. This won't be a scoop but this guy doesn't project as a finesse player... He doesn't seem good friends with the puck * Quailer had some shots that looked heavy and good but was very inconsistant overall. Skating looked OK, good frame. I'm intrigued (in a good way) by this pick * Patrick Johnson looked like he has a midget BB shot ; looked very small and weak had trouble gettin any wood at all on the shots I've looked at. I hope for him he can skate... * Kristo as one soft pair of hands. Solid shots almost all the times with just a flick of the wrists. Not over powering or anything but looked pretty good * Maxwell did not look like he was having a good time ; rather indifferent (contrary to Conboy who seemed genuinely jovial, even if he was stinkin up the joint, shootin bricks all over the place) * Beauregard can really aim his shots. He's smooth and it looks easy to stripe it in off the bars. Too bad he skates like Yannick Perreault
** Is it me or are we like loading up on right-handed shooters now... Seemed like every other player there was a rightie, and we have like zero now with the real club. Strange.
I didn't see a whole lot of the D. But The Subbanator still looks super good skating with the puck. Really like him. As I liked McD (more than I did last year) and Carle. Pateryn seems like a decent find too. Fisher still is very underwhelming ; I want to be impressed but I'm just not.
That's about it. I might try to go again on Saturday. Anybody know if (and when) there are scrimmages on the schedule ? Cause I'd like to see those. Whitesnake, you wouldn't happen to know something about that ?

This in from Whitesnake at HF from yesterday camp
So like I was saying, no scrimmages mostly shooting exercices that involved some skating as well, cause guys were going at it on breakways and all. I think that in general we have a great bunch of guys that skates and shoots pretty well.
So for the group was divided in 2 and I stayed in the freezing ice rink with seats so I only saw the same exercices by both group 1 hour after the other, so I have no idea what the other group did when I was there, let's hope somebody else was there for those ones.....
Let's start with the MIA first:
- Missiaen (I saw him 5 seconds, he jumped on the ice skated a little, I remember thinking, my god he's huge and then.....he dissapeared, never came back in the rink that I was there. Was he at the other one the whole time, maybe but since the 3 other goalies were in the rink I was in, and Melanson was there as well, I doubt that Missiaen would have been elsewhere. Sucks that he wasn't there....
- Beauregard, Paquet, J.P Testwuide and Weber weren't there.
Let's describe the exercies first the best I can do.....
1- Net covering the other net except a small part open on the right side, and then they changed it so it would be the left part that would be open. 2- Same except it was the top of the net that was open 3- Guy on the blue line accept a pass that he needs to stop it with his glove first put it down and slap or snap it 4- Some passing and shooting exercices, either one pass and shoot against the goalie, either the player receives a pass, pass it back and received it again. 5- Final exercice, the funnier part of the day. 5 pucks in the middle of the ice for the group that was divided in 2 small groups. And each group was going at it against the goalie and if they scored, they took another puck in the middle of the ice. If they don't, they have to take the same puck and pass it to the next teamates that was ready to go. Funnier part was that goalies had the right to take the puck if they stopped it and send it to the other side of the rink where then the player had to rush to pass it to the teamates next in line. Anyway, we saw some great things there, great saves and great chemistry with some Oh's and Ah's from the players and the crowd
That's about it, let's get it on with the players now:
D-MEN (in there was 2 forwards Boisvert and Monahan)
BOISVERT; He surprised me a whole lot today. Good skater but especially good slapshot and great wristers in the top corners practically at will. Most of his shots were hard and accurate. He's obviously not the best today but I may have been surprised since I wasn't expecting anything. Pretty small that's for sure but I saw something interesting there. Looked better than tons of invitees I saw in the past like Labrie and all....
CARLE: Just not fair....a men amongst boys today. At will was picking the corners, was totally impressive in the net on net exercices, skating is really fluid, he improved his skating in my opinion. But his slapper and his wristers are hard and accurate. Just feel that he gave a clinic in precision and quality of shots today.
FISCHER: I will defend him.....but he needs to pick it up. Didn't see an improvement over last year whatsoever. He had a couple, and I really put the emphasis on a couple of great wristers but his slappers are non-existant in strength and in precision. Better precision in the wristers but there's a still A LOT of work to do. I hope he practise that aspect of his game but I really didn't see no improvement in that regard. His passing game is off the chart though, and his skating is just as fluid. I'm absolutely no expert in that field, but should he be using a shorter stick. I just have the feeling that he's not that confortable with it when he goes for the shots. Something he demonstrated today was a great.....forward quality. Undressed the goalies in a couple of occasions with some great moves up close. He's got great hands for some dekes....just doesn't know how to use them for the shots....
KISHEL: Not noticeable like he was last year. Though I like his wristers. Not incredibly strong but he can pick his spots from time to time. Better luck next time once again.
MCDONAGH: Was impressed by his calm, poise and maturity this year even if there wasn't a scrimmages but just the way he conducted himself, the way he skates and shoots the puck. Didn't have a great slapper day today but his wristers were off the chart, precised and strong.I really thought he had an overall great skating and shooting day today.
MONAHAN: For Jaydee......Well Jaydee you will be dissapointed....I didn't see a whole lot from him even though I tried to concentrate on him just for you.... Says 169lbs on the sheet but he looks a little bigger than that. Wasn't impressed by his skating but a threw a couple of great slappes and wristers along the way. Just wasn't inconsistent and didn't wow me. I would put him ahead of the "Was he there?" category, or the Kishel category if you like.....but didn't impress me either. But like Boisvert, again, I think that Monahan was good enough to make me think that he surpasses a lot of invitees we had in the past and maybe just enough to let him finish his Q season as a 20 year old and maybe giving him an invitiation again next year. You do see that he has a sniper mentality. So enough to keep an eye on me. Not enough to lose sleep over it though...
PATERYN: My god.....okay I may be just overestimate him at this point and while he has to work on his aim, he has just an incredible booming shot and great wristers that might be one of the strongest at camp. I was also impressed how big he looks like and that he's a fine skater. Might need to become faster though. But his shots just were pretty hard all day today with some OH's and AH's from the crowd in some occasions. Was impressed. But the kid DOES NOT look like a 5th rounder. Sure there was no games and that's why he could look like a 5th rounder but on skills, size and how he handles himself, I was impressed.
STEJSKAL: Bad day at the office. Inaccurate as hell, maybe the worst one today. You noticed him today but not for the great reasons, missed some one-timers, slappers, snapshots, wristers, couldn't deke.....but then he had a couple of great wristers on the top corners and 1 or 2 accurate booming shots. So he does have a strong slapper. Just that it wasn't on the net too much. Don't think I've noticed that he looked taller than I remember but it's possible. You did see that he has a great shot and that he has some accuracy, but needs to put it together. Just an overall bad day even though he had a couple of good ones.
SUBBAN: PK is PK. Great slapper as always, pretty accurate with it and with his wristers. At one point I think I saw Quattrocchi being scared in some occasions that he was facing him. I have to say that he had less energy this year that he had last year still he's focused and works hard. He made some good passes all day today and wow the fans with a couple of great and accurate wristers and slapshots. Good day for the PK.
TORP: Another one who seems really small but has a great shot for a guy his size. Booming slapper and really really accurate wristers. Wowed the fans in some occasions with it. Great lateral movement on the "Catch the puck with glove, put it down and slap it". Though he couldn't catch the puck......but he did slap it alright......I might not have focused too much on him or at the day progresses, he kinda faded out....
FORWARDS
CONBOY: Didn't focus on him today though he catched my eye on some occasions 'cause I remember thinking that he looked much more confortable this year than he did last year. Showed some skills and some great wristers, I didn't focus on his slapper. Got the top corners on some occasions, but I also think that he looked a little faster. Looks pretty big and might even be bigger than last year. Can't say I was impressed, but I think he made some progress from last year and that's great to see.
DESHARNAIS: Small......hands......small......hands....That's about what you think when you see him.....My god is he small, Fortier was beside him and he looked like a giant....but the kid has some great stickwork and deke the goalies almost at will. He does have underrated shots to his arsenal as well mostly his wristers. Had some accuracy problem today though. But that "deke in the phone booth" expression or any other kind of expression that looks like it, that's him. He's a nice and fluid skater but I think I would like to see him even faster, especially at this size.
FORTIER: Was he in top shape today. Aiming at will, whenever, wherever he wanted. Great fluid skater, didn't focus on his slappers but his wristers today were amongst the best as far as hard but mostly terribly accurate with or without the goalie. Loved his shooting day today.
JOHNSON: Was fine. I don't get the hard criticizm as far as he's concerned. He looks like a 7th rounder, still I prefer him to Kishel....you do notice Johnson a little bit more with his hard work and his hard wrister that could use a little bit more accuracy that's fore sure. There's is some big technical problems as far as skating is concerned, I would have to agree. Was not that noticeable all day though
KRISTO: Needs work on his slapshot, that's for sure. I loved his wristers day today. Pretty accurate, pretty hard, good skater but I do agree that he will need to work on his stride. Had some moments where he looked pretty good, other moments, not that much. Up and down day, but you do see the upside.
MAXWELL: Another men amongst boys. Wasn't trying that hard nor was he lazy but liek Carle he's at another level. Bring on the rookie camp. Great precision, will never have a hard slapper but he's impressive as far as his dekes, and the accuracy of his shots. Just a great fluid skater, not overly fast, but just fluid, it's just a joy to watch him skate. The comparison with Brad Richards is just really really easy to do. Let's see how he translated that in another level now.
PACIORETTY: Not the greatest MaxPac day today. Looked tired and almost disinterested. But even a bad MaxPac looks almost better than anybody else. I really don't get that stupid frail comment by CKAC, the guy looks big, he's fast and he's just our #1 prospect. Even with a not-so great day, he just kept aiming at the goalies chest all day, he succeeded in having some ohhh and ahhh with some dekes he made and some wristers he had. But he's capable of so much more that in the MaxPac scale it wasn't up there. Except in the final exercice of the day in the 5 pucks exercice, he was almost scoring at will and made some incredible dekes. What a prospect!
QUAILER: We might want to not compare him to mini-MaxPac just yet. To me he's more a Maxi-Conboy right now. He's a fine skater for his size but will need to improve it especially his agility and feet speed. His slappers were inaccurate but hard. But his wristers were off the chart today. Really hard and was picking his corners almost at will. Wowed the crowd in some occasions. I was actually impressed by the quality of his shots but in no way is he close to what MaxPac showed us last year in his first time at camp. Tons of work in the agility department.
RUSSELL: Didn't see him much today, was at the other end of the rink and I didn't focus on him. Though I liked the accuracy of his wristers. That's about it, nothing to worry or to panic, almost unnoticeable all day.
TESTWUIDE: Agility= none. Slappers = fine. Good wristers though pretty accurate and hard. But looked like Conboy looked last year. Nothing to write about.
TROTTER: Another one that I didn't focus on still you see him in some plays, in some dekes and in some passes he makes and he makes you think of a mini-Maxwell. Looks really small out there though. But he does have some undeniable skills.
WYMAN: My man, that I kept mentioning for a long time now, at least since he went to his 1st camp (looks like 10 years passed by already....). Was a little invisible today, didn't overly impress, had some great wristers though that the goalies are still looking for as we speak and some good one-timers as well. But nothing spectacular nor bad, nor good.
And last but not least..................drumroll................... THE BEST FORWARD OF THE DAY IS.....................
My man RYAN WHITE !!
Okay I may exaggerate a little but not that much. Definately the best day that I've seen him since he went to any camp. Scored at will, had some surprising dekes in store for us, was extremely accurate in his wristers, in his slappers, especially when there was that net on net exercice with the top of it open, he scored back to back with....some one-timers!!!! The Oh's and the Ah's were not only from the fans but mostly from the players themselves. He had fun out there and it showed but he was good. There wasn't a exercice on skating but he looked a little, and I emphasize, a little faster than I remembered him last year. But his shots were amongst the most accurate of the day. Good job Ryan!
GOALIES
MISSIAEN: Looks big even for 5 seconds....
QUATTROCCHI: Looks small, plays small, just is not in the same category as the others. Sure made some good saves but overall, technique is not there. Showed me that he had a good glove though.
RIOPEL: Good moments and bad moments. Happy that he got a last-minute call. Had a better glove than I anticipated since somebody here said he had NO glove whatsoever. But as far as his lateral movement and his overall movement on the ice, is just all over the place, not fluid and there's just a lot of movement in his body. Was OK, but OK won't cut it.
MAYER: Best goalie out there since Missiaen wasn't there. Still he reminded me where I didn't want us to not draft him. Just pure inconsistency. Seems to easily lose his focus. His technique is pretty good, he's pretty fast, good positionnally, moves well, and is pretty stable. Still in the 5 pucks exercice, his team was winninng like 2 pucks left to 4 and he let 3 goals back to back, though good dekes by the players. But prior to that, when they did that exercice for the first time, he was incredible.
That's it boys! Was fun, not overly fun, but fun anyway, I had my fix until the rookie camp.
Liked what I read about Pateryn

Some writeups, pics and videos from AK over on the Habs official forum. Practice-wise: * First drill of the day (10:10AM): player has to stop the puck along the boards after a clearing attempt, bring the puck and shoot it at the open net. ca.youtube.com/watch?v=dCtcdp1TEZA
* Same drill but on the other side of the ice. (10:15AM) ca.youtube.com/watch?v=VaKCm4B96EY
* Third drill (10:23AM): Players lineup on each side of the ice and they move in towards the goalie and take a nice shot. ca.youtube.com/watch?v=hi80D0ukPII
*Fourth drill (10:31AM): Shooting drill, players taking 3 different styles of shots.
... blablabla...
Well yeah, today was mostly shooting drills and more stopping the puck along the boards.
Player impressions:
Andrew Conboy: average skater and has an inconsistent shot. One time he can blast the puck top corner, and the next two times he can screw it up, sending a weak shot. ca.youtube.com/watch?v=8TPdip85y3E
Max Pacioretty: Can't say enough about this kid. Good hands, good skater, good shot. THE guy at the camp. I'm sold on Max. He WILL be a special player. Loved his game at the scrimmage: skated a full speed back and poke-checked the opposing player to nullify a breakaway. ca.youtube.com/watch?v=HkGhfzzsMmc&feature=user
Danny Kristo:Not bad, shot's accurate but not too hard. Good skater but has some learning to do. i181.photobucket.com/albums/x253/AK...amp-Day5035.jpg
JT Wyman: Didn't see much of him but I remember his backchecking. Hard worker.
Steve Quailer: Decent shot, decent speed but the important thing is that he goes to the net, in traffic. That's how he scored his goal in scrimmage (goal was set up by PK Subban by the way).
David Desharnais: Quick skilled guy. Accurate shot. Impressed me.
Patrick Johnson: Don't know what I expected from him, being a 7th round pick and all, but he didn't do any think special. Below average shot and has a lack of finish. He's fast though. i181.photobucket.com/albums/x253/AK...amp-Day5036.jpg
Ryan McDonagh: In control, a very smooth skater. Liked what I saw from him during scrimmage when it comes to defensive play (positioning) and the transition game, coming out of the defensive zone. i181.photobucket.com/albums/x253/AK...amp-Day5163.jpg i181.photobucket.com/albums/x253/AK...amp-Day5164.jpg
PK Subban: Same old Subban, having fun and all... but with improved defensive play. He's quick has good puck possession and a booming shot. Player wise - he's a nice guy, met him for a bit after the practice. ca.youtube.com/watch?v=mL6wHyhw_2k&feature=user i181.photobucket.com/albums/x253/AK...amp-Day5182.jpg
Ben Maxwell: Didn't see much of him before the scrimmage but him and MaxPac form a terrific duo, passing to know. Seems to be good chemistry between them.
Jason Missiaen: Looked huge, was huge, played huge. Players seemed to have a hard time finding holes. Still has a bit of work to do on his lateral movement but that could be fixed. ca.youtube.com/watch?v=0OuMkPLymKM i181.photobucket.com/albums/x253/AK...amp-Day5124.jpg
Robert Mayer: Where does he come from? Never heard of him before today. Looked solid out there. i181.photobucket.com/albums/x253/AK...amp-Day5125.jpg
Joseph Quattrocchi: Mediocre play today. I believe he let in more goals in than he saved and became frustrated with himself afterwards. Just not as good as Mayer and Missiaen.
Nichlas Torp: Crazy shot while in movement. Booming.
David Fischer: Didn't see a lot of him (being at the opposite end of the rink) but from what I saw, he was okay. Good puck carrier, made some defensive stops.
PS: Mathieu Carle and Thomas Beauregard were not there for some reason. --- Random pictures: i181.photobucket.com/albums/x253/AK...amp-Day5123.jpg i181.photobucket.com/albums/x253/AK...amp-Day5167.jpg
