Thats a steep price in a way. A prospect taken in the 1st round, a 1st round pick and a 3rd? Guess the Ducks didn't want to pony up more then that.
I'm glad we didn't go for it. I have a lot of concerns about Gainey trading prospects, so I chalk it up to a good non move.

Lowe now gets a first pick too. That's a smart move by him, if he can move the pick, he may find himself another good player.

Thats a steep price in a way. Didn't Clark make comments last year about only being able to use so many picks? after a (couple) trade in which he gave up a few too many for some folks liking. I think Comrie will thrive in Philly and have an excellent 3/4 of a year.

Lowe got some really nice assets in this trade. Woywitka is a super promising blueliner, and the picks are good. Philly's pick won't be a high one, but it's something Lowe can use to try and move up or down. A shrewd trade.
In principle the Ducks ponied up nearly as much. The Perry kid looks very good, and at the rate things were going, their first rounder is going to be a lot higher than where Philly would have picked. Hence the third rounder from the Flyers.
Clarke was dealing from somewhat of a position of strength. He's got some very good defencemen. With Pitkanen so good so early in his career, Clarke obviously feels he could afford to move a young blueliner like Woywitka.
I'm not sure where Comrie fits into their plans. Does this mean the end for Williams? Will 'rooster (Hitchcack) try to convert him to the wing? Primeau, Handzus, Lapointe, etc means they're pretty deap up the middle. Will one of the others move? We'll see.

We'll see. You inadvertently omitted Roenick. The trade makes sense to me from the Flyers' side. Primeau is approaching UFA status and as I recall Lapointe is being treated for depression. I suppose their rivals will take note. The Senators and Devils have injury problems and may want to add reinforcements. Do the Habs have any veterans who might interest them? Not likely, because the Habs are still in the playoff chase and can't spare productive players like Bulis and Ryder.

Oilers in Philly January 10th just got a whole lot more interesting. Too bad it wasn't in Edmonton though.

Gagne for Lang? No secret the Caps want to cut salary, but they can't get rid of Jagr, and Kolzig has been stinking up the joint. Lang is their only big money player who is actually playing well. Gagne has been kind of disappointing in Philly, ever since the Olympics really, and they got all kinds of guys playing out of position there (most notably Mark Recchi). They could move Primeau over to LW, and go with Roenick, Lang, Handzus down the middle. Primeau - Roenick - Amonte Leclair - Lang - Recchi Kapanen - Handzus - Williams That's pretty scary. Do I get any points for at least suggestion Philly was in the market for a center? Substitute Comrie for Lang, and its still a pretty impressive lineup. Not a huge Comrie fan, but surrounded by those big boys in Philly, he should do real well. And they still have Gagne... Flyers seem to be gearing up this year. Looking at their defense, it has solid depth, but only one player (out of 8) who is a right-handed shot. Hmmm... I wonder if they have any interest in Rivet or Brisebois?
