From Manitoba Moose website: The rest of the article is here. Fedorov is big (6-3, 220), skilled RW, a "beautiful skater with a monster shot", but he's extremely inconsistent and defensively suspect. Could be a good reclamation project. Stan Smyl, the Moose coach, apparently was extremely patient with him, but his patience ran out. I wonder how Jarvis would fare? Gainey's gotta at least give Burke a call. The article suggests that a conditional pick would be enough (mid-round initially, higher depending on performance). However, Canuck fans at HF believe that the Moose need more scoring. I'd give up Milroy for him (a Western kid who would get more icetime in Manitoba than in Hamilton), maybe even Plekanec or Hossa. I would not give up Hossa or Pleks for Fedor Fedorov. Although he has good size he doesn't use it at all and I have not been impressed by him very much at the 3 or so games I've seen him play her in Winnipeg, although basing an oppinion on 3 games is not the best way to go about things. Personally, I think he's similar to Hossa, like Hossa there are some shifts you rarely notice him until you see him skating to the bench for a change. He can give an exciting end to end rush once in a while in the AHL but, like people question Hossa's desire, I question his. I agree that Mr. Gainey should inquire about Fedorov's services.

Sergei's brother for Marian's brother straight up... sounds good to me. Marcel has had back to back solid chances to earn consistent playing time here in montreal and that hasn't got him going, Fedor is bigger, faster and his brother is better so why not swap one overhyped sibbling for another.
Plekanec though... no thanks, at least not until he's had a shot at the big leagues with us.

If he can be had for a conditional pick why give up anybody for him?
I'd like to know more about the "incident" described in the article before taking a chance on him.

No way would I give up Plekanec, Hossa, or Milroy for him... He's a reclamation project, and should be treated as such.
The Florida Panthers just dealt Ivan Novolseltsev to Phoenix for "future considerations." That would be about the most I would offer for Federov, and only because I think he can be good AHL depth next year, with an outside chance of surprising us into an NHL spot (like Dagenais this year).
Guys like Federov will be available, a dime a dozen in the off season, as teams unload their contracts, and make way for more promising prospects. We could probably get him for free then. If we really wanted him now, I would offer "future considerations" for him, with those considerations being that the Canucks get a 5th round pick, if Federov plays more than 40 games in the NHL next season. That's it, that's all. If he stays in the AHL, then the only thing the Canucks get is one less headache.

Personally, I would stay away from him. I would rather take my chances on guys we are developing now than take on an extra player with questionnable character.
If I had to pick a player to pick up, I would rather go with Svitov ... saw him play last night with the Bulldogs and I was impressed. He didn't stick out as a star, mind you, but he did show some good qualities...plus he is big and has a heavy shot.
my 2 cents!

Another cancerous distraction. No thanks. We have plenty of youth, from which to work with, that are on or near the cusp of the NHL. Leave that lemon be.

We already have a Chad Kilger. Speculation is one thing, but if you can't pick it up in the AHL (hello, Hossa?) then you're on your way down.

Al Strachan was promoting him last night on Hot Stove. I guess that is reason enough to stay away from him.
