lol. If they dump Zherdev (which might mean they're back in on Heatley, but let's assume they don't get him) then who the hell is going to score goals aside from Gaborik?!

LOL is right.
58 points in a full season and a big ZERO in the 7 games against Washington along with being a -3. Good luck moving him.
No wonder Doug Mclean hates this guy.

The Rags walked away. Zherdev is a UFA. We'll see what enigmatic Russian snipers who need space go for.

Hahahaha. Nice. So Nik has decided maybe he doesn't want to play in Russia after all? Damn if those small Russian mining towns don't have the excitement that Manhattan night life has.

Good on the Rangers then. Who's his agent anyway? Putz!

Good on the Rangers then. Who's his agent anyway? Putz! It's probably not what you were thinking with regards to the comment, but I wonder how much of the troubles some players have had this off-season - Zherdev, Kovalev, Tanguay and Bouillon come to mind - is the result of the influence of agents whispering in the ears of their players?

Would be interesting to find out, TNG. If what I heard (while driving through Montreal) was true, Kovalev's agent maybe underestimated the business aspect of the game. As an outsider looking in, I got the same impression from the Zherdev camp. By going to arbitration they're saying the club simply didn't appreciate (financially speaking) what Zherdev brings to the table. OTOH, I'm trying to put myself in Sather's shoes. He's a former player and coach who understands what commitment is all about. If he felt Zherdev was worth that kind of coin then he would have paid him in the first place. I guess he felt otherwise. Good on him. Zherdev and his agent probably took the "no hard feelings ... we'll come back at your price", approach when the Rangers walked away. I'm not a businessman, but I really like what Sather did business-wise. You don't bite the hand that feeds you. (as an aside, it makes me think of Plekanec's situation) I think I first heard of a club walking away when Harry Sinden did it a few years back. But, I can't remember who the player was. Cheers.

That is interesting. Sather was willing to pay 3.25 a few weeks ago, but not now. I wonder what changed, especially when you consider the Rangers could use some talent on the team. Zherdev's character must really be bottom of the barrellish.
