...a couple of internet outlets has the HABS VERY interested in Nathan Horton, dating back as far as last summer.

... if not further. His name has popped up a couple of times.
His cap hit is $4 million a year until 2013. He's a big body player, who from what I understand plays a relatively big body game.
His 4 pro seasons look like this:
GP G A P PIM +/- 2005-06 Florida Panthers NHL 71 28 19 47 89 8 2006-07 Florida Panthers NHL 82 31 31 62 61 15 2007-08 Florida Panthers NHL 82 27 35 62 85 15 2008-09 Florida Panthers NHL 67 22 23 45 48 -5 2009-10 Florida Panthers NHL 23 7 12 19 24 4
I look at his size, his game, and see what we hoped we'd get from Lats. HUGE difference in salary. He's a plus player, and has shown an ability to put up 10-20 PP pts a year.
Given the number of years left on his salary, someone's gotta be moving the other way.

The kind of guy we need up front but what does it cost you and can you dump another contract possibly in return? Smuckland had him going for a top defensive prospect would you trade Subban? .... I wouldn't. Down the road another weapon from the back to go with Markov would be deadly if you got the right mix up front. A big bodied guy in the middle to go along with our talented smurfs and the hope Patches and Pouliot develop into decent players would put us in a good position and give us a nice balance. HFTO

I think a lot of teams would be interested but why would FLA trade him?

Don't know why FLA would trade him but I heard on the radio this afternoon his on-ice intensity is less than stellar.
I don't make a point of watching Panther hockey but his stats and size are appealing. But then they always are until you know the reason he's naing shopped.

Heard on the tube (TSN maybe) last night that Florida is shopping him around. I don't know, Red, maybe that lack of on-ice intensity has something to do with him knowing this.
That's only coming from an outsider looking in, though.
Cheers.

Talent wise, I like Horton. I'm puzzled why Florida would want to trade him. He's a premier talent. I'm not sure the Habs have the assets that Florida wants to get him or, if they do, are willing to part with them. Unless they want Gomez...

There's a connection with Martin that we've not discussed yet too. Perhaps Martin is the driving force behind any interest from the Canadiens?

I wonder how Florida absorbs that 7 million dollar cap hit for a guy projected to score about 40-50 points? I found more interesting reading at the bottom where he speculates on the availability of Eric Staal. I can dream can't I?

..hey it's not like anyone would care or notice. The Habs should be so lucky. The Gomez anchor is going to drag this team down for the duration of that egrecious contract. Oh well it's what only another five years, we should be on our 4th rebuild by then.
