There's a definite downside to stardom when you get to the celebrity status Tiger Woods has. As much as he and others try, they aren't always successful in keeping anything private. I hope he can find a place to just hide. But, that's pretty hard given his status. Cheers. Think you are in the wrong thread. Or not ;D

The NFL has nothing to do with the comment. It's not mistake-free and has bad games. That being said the Browns-Bills game you speak of wasn't the Super Bowl, either. It was more a comment from a football fan with something below casual CFL interest who tuned in to see a bit of action in the league's championship game and witnessed that. I repeatedly give it chances because people I know personally (and many posters on here) love the game. I actually want to be a CFL fan. There's next to nothing between April (we're Habs fans.. let's call it March) and August that I can focus on in the sports world and take interest in (in a non-World Cup or Euro year). Unfortunately, each time I tune in to watch the CFL I come away disappointed for one reason or another. I've yet to witness that moment that makes it click for me. Go see a game live in either Edmonton or Regina on a lovely summer day. Better yet, go see a Riders-Eskimos game in Edmonton any time (the last one had 63K in the stands - all wearing different shades of green). The beer is cold and the atmosphere is great. It may get you over the top on the CFL!! If in Montreal, those games at Percival Molson are great (but tics are harder to come by) in that quaint little stadium in the shadows of Mount Royal and within minutes walk of plenty fine places to enjoy the apres game.

The Als are what we want the Habs to be - a top flight organization that puts together a championship contender every year & they have been doing it for 10 years now. Easy to do in a 7-8 team league .... as the Habs proved in a 6 (and 12) team league. Easy? The Habs had it easy re: their succcess/Cups in a 6 and 12-team league? Not IMO. It's all relative. That was still the elite of the elite back then. The only "break" I've ever seen the Habs get was meeting the St. Louis Blues in the finals of 68 and 69.....as the Blues were the best in the all-expansion West. Their biggest playoff test in those two years was the 69 semi-finals vs. the Esposito-Orr Bruins, with Beliveau getting the OT winner in Game 6. Nobody gave them anything. And that's maintaining excellence over a much longer regular season and playoff grind than the CFL features. The 12-team league lasted only 3 years. It went to 14 teams in 70-71. (and Chicago switched to West division). Habs won the Cup. 16 teams in 72-73. Habs won the Cup. 18 teams in 74-75. 3 Cups. Back to 17 in 78-79. 1 Cup. Up to 21 in 79-80 (WHA merger). Montreal remained competitive throughout the 80s....early round playoff disappointments, yes. But they also enjoyed 2 Conference Finals, 1 Cup, and 1 Cup Final. Winning a Cup/staying on top/remaining competitive isn't "easy"...and I don't think it's at all contingent upon how many teams are in the league.

If it is the "elite of the elite" back then ... then it was easier to keep strong teams strong. A trade would be a strong guy for a strong guy, not like today. And its simple mathematics CH ... with 6 teams or 8 teams ... you have a 33% chance from the start of the season to be in the Final.
And I didnt mean to imply that it was easy solely for Montreal ... I meant that every team had an easier chance of getting to the final in a 6 team league. Heck the numbers bare it out ...
In a 6 team league
Montreal 13 Cups .... 20 appearances Toronto 12 Cups ..... 20 appearances Detroit 7 Cups ........ 18 appearances Chicago 3 Cups ........ 7 appearances Boston 3 Cups ......... 10 appearances Rangers 3 Cups ....... 7 appearances
